212Replacing Consumable Products Chapter 9 Replacing Consumable Products Replacement Messages When you see the following messages on the LCD panel or the window of EPSON Status Monitor, replace the appropriate consumable products. You can continue to print for a short time after a message appears, but EPSON recommends early replacement to maintain print quality and extend the life of your printer. Note: To clear these messages, select Clear All Warnings in Reset Menu. When the Toner out setting in the Setup Menu on the control panel is set to Stop, the following occurs. If you continue to use the printer without replacing consumable products and a consumable product reaches the end of its service life, the printer stops printing and displays the following messages on the LCD panel or the window of EPSON Status Monitor. Control panel message Description Toner LowThe amount of remaining toner in the imaging cartridge is low. Worn FuserThe fuser unit has reached the end of its service life. Control panel message Description Replace TonerThe imaging cartridge is empty.
Replacing Consumable Products213 9 9 9 9 9 9 9 9 9 9 9 9 Imaging Cartridge Handling precautions Always observe the following handling precautions when replacing imaging cartridges. ❏When handling imaging cartridges, always place them on a clean smooth surface. ❏Do not install used imaging cartridges into the printer. ❏If you have moved an imaging cartridge from a cool to a warm environment, wait for at least one hour before installing it to prevent damage from condensation. ❏Do not open the drum’s protective cover and avoid exposing an imaging cartridge to room light any longer than necessary. Overexposing the cartridge may cause abnormally dark or light areas to appear on the printer page and reduce the life of the cartridge.
214Replacing Consumable Products w Warning: ❏Do not touch the toner. Keep the toner away from your eyes. If toner gets on your skin or clothes, wash it off with soap and water immediately. ❏Keep the consumable products out of the reach of children. ❏Do not dispose of the consumable products in fire, as they may explode and cause injury. Dispose of them according to local regulations. Replacing an imaging cartridge Follow these steps to replace an imaging cartridge. 1. Open Cover A slowly.

216Replacing Consumable Products 4. Put the new imaging cartridge on the flat surface and pull out the protective cartridge seal as shown below. 5. Insert the new imaging cartridge all the way until it stops. Note: Insert the cartridge with the arrow mark on the top of the imaging cartridge facing toward Cover A.

Note for windows users: If EPSON Status Monitor is installed, the information about the amount of toner remaining on the Basic Setting screen may not be updated. In that case, press the Get Information Now button on the Consumable Info Settings dialog box to update the information. You can open the Consumable Info Settings dialog box by clicking the Consumable Info Settings button on the Optional Settings tab. Fuser Unit Handling precautions Always observe the following handling precautions when replacing the consumable products. Do not touch the surface of the consumable product. Doing so may impair print quality.

Turn the printer off and wait for 40 minutes until the temperature has subsided before replacing the fuser unit. ❏Do not dispose of the used consumable products in fire, as it may explode and cause injury. Dispose of it according to local regulations. ❏Keep the consumable products out of the reach of children. Replacing the fuser unit Follow the steps below to replace the fuser unit. 1. Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord and the interface cable. w Warning: If the printer has been in use, wait at least 40 minutes until the fuser cools down before replacing it.
