Removal and Replacement Procedures Maintenance and Service Guide5–49 5.20 Top Cover ✎When replacing the top cover, ensure that the microphone is removed from the old top cover and installed on the new top cover. 1. Prepare the computer for disassembly (Section 5.3) and remove the following components: a. LED cover (Section 5.9) b. Keyboard (Section 5.10) c. Heat spreader (Section 5.11) d. Display (Section 5.13) e. Palm rest (Section 5.14) 2. Turn the base enclosure bottom side up with the rear panel facing forward. Lift the top cover straight up 2 approximately one inch, then slide it forward 3 until the microphone cable 4 is exposed. 7. Disconnect the microphone cable 5 from the system board. 8. Remove the microphone 6 from the top cover. 9. Remove the top cover from the base enclosure. Figure 5-40. The system board-to-TouchButton board cable is included in the Miscellaneous Cable Kit, spare part number 285540-001. 10. Release the ZIF connector 1 to which the system board-to-TouchButton board cable is attached and disconnect the cable 2 from the system board (Figure 5-41). Figure 5-41. Remove the front alignment rail 2 from the base enclosure. 4. Remove the two TM2.5 × 5.0 screws 3 that secure the optical drive rear alignment rail to the base enclosure. 5.
