CHAPTER Accessing the Machine Settings10-1 10Machine Settings This chapter explains how to adjust machine settings. The list of all the settings is also provided for your reference. Accessing the Machine Settings 1Press [Menu]. 2Press [((-)] or[)(+)] to select the menu you want to change ➞ press [Set]. You have now accessed the settings in the list. 3Press [((-)] or [)(+)] to select the sub menu you want to change ➞ press [Set]. NOTE •For details on sub menus, see "Menu Descriptions," on p. 10-2. •If you press [Stop/Reset] before [Set] is pressed, the item you have selected will not be registered. •Press [Stop/Reset] to exit from the Menu. •If you press [Menu], the display returns to the previous screen. •The settings changed in the Menu do not return automatically to the settings you set previously. PAPER SETTINGS Sets the paper size and paper type. 1. CASSETTE 1. PAPER SIZE Selects the paper size for the paper cassette. LT R, LGL, A4, B5, A5, EXECUTIV 2. PAPER TYPE Selects the paper type to be used in the paper cassette. PLAIN PAPER, HEAVY PAPER 2. MP TRAY 1. PAPER SIZE Selects the paper size for the MP tray. DEFAULT SETTINGS Selects the Copy, or Scan mode for the machine's default mode. When the power cord is plugged in, or after the auto clear function activates, the standby display of the selected mode appears. COPYThe Copy mode is selected as default. SCAN The Scan mode is selected as default. FAX The Fax mode is selected as default. 2. VOLUME CONTROL Adjusts the beep or alarm volume of the machine. 1. ERROR ONLYThe transmission end tone sounds only when any error occurs while printing. 1 to 3 (1) OFF The transmission end tone does not sound. ON The transmission end tone sounds. 1 to 3 (1) 4. RX DONE TONE Sets the reception end tone settings. ERROR ONLYThe reception end tone sounds only when any error occurs while printing. 1 to 3 (1) OFF The reception end tone does not sound. ON The reception end tone sounds. 1 to 3 (1) 5. PRINT DONE TONE Sets the printing end tone settings. Menu Descriptions10-4 Machine Settings 10 ON The toner saver mode is turned on. 4. DISPLAY LANGUAGE Shows the language displayed in the LCD. ENGLISH, FRENCH, SPANISH, PORTUGUESE 5. SPECIAL PRT. MODE provides the settings that avoid or correct problems of printing quality. Read the each description carefully before specifying this option. Note After correcting problems, reset to the default setting: . OFFThe special print mode function is turned off. SPECIAL SETTINGS 1 It is not recommended to print on the reverse of paper that has been printed once. However, if you have to print on both sides of the paper, select when printing on the reverse. SPECIAL SETTINGS 2 Depending on the operating environment (especially the dry environment) or the type of paper, some smudged marks of spattering toner may appear on print pages. In this case, select to improve the result. Note Do not select when using paper that has been stored at high temperature or high humidity. Otherwise the print quality may deteriorate. SPECIAL SETTINGS 3 When an image of high color density is printed, sometimes the image partially appears on the next page. In this case, select to improve the result. SPECIAL SETTINGS 4 Depending on the operating environment (especially the humid environment) some images may look spotty or striped when printing black. In this case, select to improve the result. SPECIAL SETTINGS 5 When heavy paper of rough surface is used, some images may look patchy due to toner failing to fuse to the paper. In this case, select to improve the result. Note Do not select when using thin paper. It may cause a problem such as winding around the fuser unit. Before selecting , try printing when is selected for . If the print result is not satisfactory yet, select . SPECIAL SETTINGS 6 When thin paper is used, it may be output curled or black letters on some page may partially appear on the other pages. In this case, select to improve the result. Note Do not select when using heavy paper. Some pages may look patchy due to toner failing to fuse to the paper. Before selecting , try printing when is selected for . If the paper is still output curled or some images partially appear on other pages, select . SPECIAL SETTINGS 7 When label sheets are used, some images may look patchy due to toner failing to fuse to the paper. In this case, select to improve the result. SPECIAL SETTINGS 8 Depending on the operating environment (especially the humid environment) some colors especially red, blue, and green that are made by more than two colors may look patchy. STANDARD, PHOTO PRIORITY, TEXT PRIORITY TEXT Character mode PHOTO Photo mode 2. STANDARD EXPOSURE Sets how the exposure is adjusted. MANUALAdjusts the exposure manually. The exposure can be adjusted in 9 increments. (center) AUTO The exposure is adjusted automatically. 3. STD ZOOM RATIO Selects the copy ratio. MANUALSelects the copy ratio. 50% to 200% (100%) PRESET RATIO Selects the preset copy ratio. The preset copy ratios will change when the paper size group is changed. 4. STANDARD COPY QTY Selects the copy quantity. 1 to 99 (1) 5. AUTO SORT Sets the auto sort function. OFFThe auto sort function is turned off. ON The auto sort function is turned on. 6. PAPER SIZE GROUP The paper size group can be selected. If the paper size group is changed, the preset copy ratios will also change. SHARPNESS The sharpness setting of an image can be adjusted. When you want to make characters and lines clear, select a larger value. AUTO CLEAR Sets the auto clear function. If the machine remains idle for a set amount of time, the display returns to the standby mode.
