This mode helps avoid missing shots of subjects in motion, because the 
camera continues to focus on the subject and adjust the exposure as long as 
you press the shutter button halfway.
Configure the setting.
zPress the n button, choose [Servo AF] 
on the  4 tab, and then choose [On] (p. 40).
Focus.
zThe focus and exposure are maintained 
where the blue AF frame is displayed while 
you are pressing the shutter button halfway.

You can change default camera operation of constantly focusing on subjects 
it is aimed at, even when the shutter button is not pressed. Instead, you can 
limit camera focusing to the moment you press the shutter button halfway.
zPress the n button, choose [Continuous 
AF] on the 4  tab, and then choose [Off] 
(p. 40).

Focusing may not be possible in some shooting conditions.
• In low-light conditions, Servo AF may not be activated (AF frames

The focus can be locked. After you lock the focus, the focal position will not 
change even when you release your finger from the shutter button.
Lock the focus.
zWith the shutter button pressed halfway, 
press the q button.
XThe focus is now locked, and  f and the MF 
indicator are displayed.
zTo unlock the focus, after you release the 
shutter button, press the q  button again and 
choose   (either press the  qr buttons or 
turn the 5  dial).

You can have the flash fire for each shot. For details on the flash range, see 
“Flash Range” (see “Specifications”  in the Getting Started guide).

Just as with regular exposure compensation (p. 116), you can adjust the flash 
exposure from –2 to +2 stops, in 1/3-stop increments.
zPress the m button, choose  X in the menu, 
and adjust the setting by either pressing the 
op  buttons or turning the  5 dial (p. 39).
XOnce the setting is complete,  X is displayed.

shots.
Set the flash to h (p. 134).
Lock the flash exposure.
zAim the camera at the subject to shoot with 
the exposure locked. With the shutter button 
pressed halfway, press the  o button.

the flash output level is retained.
zTo unlock FE, release the shutter button and 
press the  o button again. In this case,   is

Powered IS reduces slow camera shake that may occur when recording 
telephoto movies. However, this option may not produce the expected results 
when used for the stronger camera shake that may occur when shooting 
while walking or when moving the camera to match subject movement. In this 
case, set Powered IS to [Off].
zFollow the steps in “Changing the IS Mode 
Settings” (p. 137) to access the [IS Settings] 
screen.
