XX[] is now shown on the shooting screen (“On-Screen Information” (= 286)). • Adjusting the date or time while in [] mode (= 22) will automatically update your [ Home] time and date. Screen Brightness Adjust screen brightness as follows. zzChoose [LCD Brightness], and then press the buttons to adjust the brightness. • For maximum brightness, press and hold the button for at least one second when the shooting screen is displayed or when in single-image display. (This will override the [LCD Brightness] setting on the [3] tab.) To restore the original brightness, press and hold the < p> button again for at least one second or restart the camera. COPY
222 Adjusting Basic Camera Functions Start-up Screen Customize the start-up screen shown after you turn the camera on as follows. zzChoose [Start-up Image], and then press the button. zzPress the buttons or turn the dial to choose an option. No start-up image 1, 2 Preset image (cannot be modified) 3 Preset image Assign a desired shot, or use the included software to change the image. Customizing the Start-up Screen 1 Access the [Start-up Image] screen in Playback mode. zzPress the button. zzFollowing the previous procedure, choose [3] and press the button. 2 Choose one of your shots. zzChoose an image and press the < m> button. After [Register?] is displayed, choose [OK] (either press the buttons or turn the dial), and then press the button. • The previous start-up setting is overwritten when you assign a new start-up image. 223 Adjusting Basic Camera Functions • You can assign the operating sounds and start-up image for your camera from the included software. Refer to the Software Guide (= 30) for details. Formatting Memor y Cards Before using a new memory card or a card formatted in another device, you should format the card with this camera. Formatting erases all data on a memory card. Before formatting, copy images on the memory card to a computer, or take other steps to back them up. An Eye-Fi card (= 274) contains software on the card itself. Before formatting an Eye-Fi card, install the software on a computer. 1 Access the [Format] screen. zzChoose [Format], and then press the button. 2 Choose [OK]. zzPress the buttons to choose [Cancel], choose [OK] (either press the buttons or turn the dial), and then press the button. 3 Format the memory card. zzTo begin the formatting process, press the buttons or turn the dial to choose [OK], and then press the button. zzWhen formatting is finished, [Memory card formatting complete] is displayed. Press the button. • Formatting or erasing data on a memory card only changes file management information on the card and does not erase the data completely. When transferring or disposing of memory cards, take steps to protect personal information if necessary, as by physically destroying cards. COPY
224 Adjusting Basic Camera Functions • The total card capacity indicated on the formatting screen may be less than the advertised capacity. Low-Level FormattingPerform low-level formatting in these cases: [Memory card error] is displayed, the camera is not working correctly, card image reading/writing is slower, continuous shooting is slower, or movie recording suddenly stops. Low-level formatting erases all data on a memory card. Before low-level formatting, copy images on the memory card to a computer, or take other steps to back them up. Perform low-level formatting. zzOn the screen in step 2 on = 223, press the buttons or turn the dial to choose [Low Level Format], and then select this option (mark with a []) by pressing the buttons. zzFollow steps 2 – 3 on = 223 to continue with the formatting process. • Low-level formatting takes longer than “Formatting Memory Cards” (= 223), because data is erased from all storage regions of the memory card. • You can cancel low-level formatting in progress by choosing [Stop]. In this case, all data will be erased, but the memory card can be used normally. COPY
225 Adjusting Basic Camera Functions File Numbering Your shots are automatically numbered in sequential order (0001 – 9999) and saved in folders that store up to 2,000 images each. You can change how the camera assigns file numbers. zzChoose [File Numbering], and then choose an option. ContinuousImages are numbered consecutively (until the 9999th shot is taken/saved) even if you switch memory cards. Auto Reset Image numbering is reset to 0001 if you switch memory cards, or when a new folder is created. • Regardless of the option selected in this setting, shots may be numbered consecutively after the last number of existing images on newly inserted memory cards. To start saving shots from 0001, use an empty (or formatted (= 223)) memory card. • Refer to the Software Guide (= 30) for information on the card folder structure and image formats. Date-Based Image Storage Instead of saving images in folders created each month, you can have the camera create folders each day you shoot to store shots taken that day. zzChoose [Create Folder], and then choose [Daily]. XXImages will now be saved in folders created on the shooting date. COPY
226 Adjusting Basic Camera Functions Lens Retraction Timing The lens is normally retracted for safety about one minute after you press the button in Shooting mode (= 42). To have the lens retracted immediately after you press the < 1> button, set the retraction timing to [0 sec.]. zzChoose [Lens Retract], and then choose [0 sec.]. Power-Saving Adjustment Adjust the timing of automatic camera and screen deactivation (Auto Power Down and Display Off, respectively) as needed (= 42). 1 Access the [Power Saving] screen. zzChoose [Power Saving], and then press the button. 2 Configure the settings. zzAfter choosing an item, press the buttons to adjust it as needed. • To conserve battery power, you should normally choose [On] for [Auto Power Down] and [1 min.] or less for [Display Off]. • The [Display Off] setting is applied even if you set [Auto Power Down] to [Off]. 227 Adjusting Basic Camera Functions Metric/Non-Metric Display Change the unit of measurement shown in the MF indicator (= 143) and zoom bar (= 54) from m/cm to ft/in as needed. zzChoose [Units], and then choose [ft/in]. COPY
228 Adjusting Basic Camera Functions Electronic Level Calibration Calibrate the electronic level if it seems ineffective in helping you level the camera. 1 Make sure the camera is level. zzPlace the camera on a flat surface, such as a table. 2 Access the [Electronic Level] screen. zzChoose [Electronic Level], and then press the button. 3 Calibrate the electronic level. zzTo adjust left/right tilt, choose [Horizontal Roll Calibration], and to adjust forward/ backward tilt, choose [Vertical Pitch Calibration], followed by the < m> button. A confirmation message is displayed. zzChoose [OK], and then press the button. Resetting the Electronic LevelRestore the electronic level to its original state as follows. Note that this is not possible unless you have calibrated the electronic level. zzChoose [Electronic Level], and then press the button. zzChoose [Reset], and then press the button. XXOnce the electronic level has been reset, the menu screen is displayed again. COPY
229 Adjusting Basic Camera Functions Setting Copyright Information to Record in Images To record the author’s name and copyright details in images, set this information beforehand as follows. 1 Access the setting screen. zzChoose [Copyright Info], and then press the button. zzPress the buttons or turn the dial to choose [Enter Author’s Name] or [Enter Copyright Details], and then press the button. 2 Enter a name. zzPress the buttons or turn the dial to choose a character, and then press the button to enter it. zzUp to 63 characters can be used. zzPress the button to delete single characters. zzTurn the dial or choose [] or [] and press the button to move the cursor. 3 Save the settings. zzPress the button. [Accept changes?] is displayed. zzPress the buttons or turn the dial to choose [Yes], and then press the button. XXThe information set here will now be recorded in images. COPY
230 Adjusting Basic Camera Functions • To check the information entered, choose [Display Copyright Info] on the screen in step 1, and then press the button. • You can also use the included software (= 30) to enter, change, and delete copyright information. Some characters entered with the included software may not display on the camera, but will be correctly recorded in images. • You can view, change, and delete copyright information recorded in images by using the included software to save images to a computer. Deleting All Copyright InformationYou can delete both the author’s name and copyright details at the same time as follows. zzFollow step 1 on = 229 and choose [Delete Copyright Info]. zzPress the buttons or turn the dial to choose [OK], and then press the button. • The copyright info already recorded in images will not be deleted. Checking Certification Logos Some logos for certification requirements met by the camera can be viewed on the screen. Other certification logos are printed in this guide, on the camera packaging, or on the camera body. zzChoose [Certification Logo Display], and then press the button. COPY
