162 Still Images Specific Shutter Speeds ( Mode) Set your preferred shutter speed before shooting as follows. The camera automatically adjusts the aperture value to suit your shutter speed. For details on available shutter speeds, see “Specifications” ( = 303). 1 Enter mode. zzSet the mode dial to . 2 Set the shutter speed. zzTurn the dial to set the shutter speed. • With shutter speeds of 1.3 seconds or slower, there will be a delay before you can shoot again, as images are processed to remove noise. • When shooting at low shutter speeds on a tripod, you should set [IS Mode] to [Off] (= 160). • Maximum shutter speed with the flash is 1/2000 second. If you specify a faster speed, the camera will automatically reset the speed to 1/2000 second before shooting. • With shutter speeds of 1.3 seconds or slower, ISO speed is [] and cannot be changed. • Orange display of aperture values when you press the shutter button halfway indicates that the settings deviate from standard exposure. Adjust the shutter speed until the aperture value is displayed in white, or use safety shift (= 163). • : Time value • You can customize camera operation so that turning the dial changes the shutter speed (= 168). For details on available shutter speeds and aperture values, see “Specifications” ( = 303). XXAn exposure level mark based on your specified value is shown on the exposure level indicator for comparison to the standard exposure level. XXThe exposure level mark is shown in orange when the difference from standard exposure exceeds 2 stops. “–2” or “+2” is displayed in orange in the lower right when you press the shutter button halfway. • After you set the shutter speed or aperture value, the exposure level may change if you adjust the zoom or recompose the shot. • Screen brightness may change depending on your specified shutter speed or aperture value. However, screen brightness remains the same when the flash is up and the mode is set to [h]. • To have both the shutter speed and aperture value automatically adjusted to obtain standard exposure, hold the shutter button halfway and press the button. Note that standard exposure may not be possible with some settings. • With shutter speeds of 1.3 seconds or slower, ISO speed is [] and cannot be changed. COPY

168 Customization for Shooting Styles Still ImagesMovies Assigning Functions to the Front Dial and Control Dial Assign commonly used functions to the front dial and control dial, by shooting mode. 1 Access the setting screen. zzPress the button, choose [Set z7 Func.] on the [4] tab, and then press the button (= 48). 2 Configure the setting. zzPress the buttons to choose an item. zzTo configure the settings, press the buttons, choose an item (either press the buttons or turn the dial), and then turn the dial to change the function. Assignable FunctionsFunctions you can assign to the front dial and control dial vary depending on shooting mode. On the setting screen, you can assign aspect ratio switching (= 80), i-Contrast (= 132), white balance correction ( = 135), or step zoom (= 141) to modes indicated by in the following table.
