Formatting Memor y Cards
Before	using	a	new	memory	card	or	a	card	formatted	in	another	device,	you	should	format	the	card	with	this	camera.
Formatting	erases	all	data	on	a	memory	card.	Before	formatting,	copy	images	on	the	memory	card	to	a	computer,	or	take	other	steps	to	back	them	up.

•	The	total	card	capacity	indicated	on	the	formatting	screen	may	be	less	than	the	advertised	capacity.
Low-Level	FormattingPerform	low-level	formatting	in	these	cases:	[Memory	card	error]	is	displayed,	the	camera	is	not	working	correctly,	card	image	reading/writing	is	slower,	continuous	shooting	is	slower,	or	movie	recording	suddenly	stops. File Numbering
Your	shots	are	automatically	numbered	in	sequential	order	(0001	–	9999)	and	saved	in	folders	that	store	up	to	2,000	images	each.	You	can	change	how	the	camera	assigns	file	numbers.
zzChoose	[File	Numbering],	and	then	choose	an	option.
ContinuousImages
	are	numbered	consecutively	(until	the	9999th	shot	is	taken/saved)	even	if	you	switch	memory	cards.

Lens Retraction Timing
The	lens	is	normally	retracted	for	safety	about	one	minute	after	you	press	the		button	in	Shooting	mode	(=		42).	To	have	the	lens	retracted	immediately	after	you	press	the	< 1>	button,	set	the	retraction	timing	to	[0	sec.].
zzChoose	[Lens	Retract],	and	then	choose	[0	sec.].

Calibrate	the	electronic	level	if	it	seems	ineffective	in	helping	you	level	the	camera.
1	 Make	sure	the	camera	is	level.
