    Before Using the Machine
    2Prepare to load paper.
    (1) Open the Rear Tray Cover and pull out the 
    Paper Support.
    Put your finger in the rounded indent of the 
    Paper Support and pull it out until it stops.
    (2) Open the Paper Output Tray.
    Press the Open button to open the Paper 
    Output Tray.
    (3) Open the Output Tray Extension.
    (4) Press the  Feed Switch  so that the Rear Tray 
    lamp (A) lights.
    3Load the paper.
    (1) Load the paper in the Rear Tray with the print 
    side facing UP.
    (2) Align the paper stack against the Cover Guide 
    on the right side of the Paper Support.
    (3) Pinch the Paper Guide and slide it against the 
    left side of the paper stack.
    4Specify the page size and media type settings according to the loaded paper.
    Note
    You can also select the paper source with the printer driver.
    For details, refer to the  PC Printing Guide on-screen manual.
    Note
    Make sure that the Cover Guide is set upright 
    when you load paper in the Rear Tray.
    Important
    Do not slide the Paper Guide too hard. The paper 
    may not be fed properly.
    NotezWhen using the Operation Panel on the machine to perform copying or printing operation 
    without using a computer, select the size and type of the loaded paper in  Page size and Media 
    type  in each mode.
    For details on settings in each mode, see “Setting Items” on page 36 for the copy mode and 
    “Setting Items” on page 44 for the memory card mode.
    z When using the machine connected to a computer, select the size and type of the loaded paper 
    in Page Size  (or Paper Size ) and Media Type  in the printer driver.
    For details on printer driver settings, see “Printing with Windows” on page 47 or “Printing with 
    Macintosh” on page 48.

    zLoading Paper in the Cassette
    Some types and sizes of paper are not loadable in the Cassette and require the use of the Rear 
    Tray. If you intend to use only the Cassette, chec k for any usage restrictions in advance. See 
    “Paper Handling” on page 21.
    1Flatten the four corners of  the paper before loading it.
    See “Flatten the four corners of the paper before loading it.” on page 26.
    2Pull out the Cassette from the machine.
    3Load the paper with the print side facing 
    DOWN.
    (1)Load the paper in the Cassette with the print 
    side facing DOWN and the leading edge to the 
    far side.
    (2) Align the paper stack against the right side of 
    the Cassette.
    (3) Slide the Paper Guides to fit to the loaded 
    paper stack.
    ImportantzDo not leave photo paper, such as Photo Paper Pro, in the Cassette for a long time. This may 
    cause paper discoloration due to natural aging.
    z If you load photo paper such as Photo Paper Pro in the Cassette, you may get roller traces on 
    the print surface. To avoid this, load paper in the Rear Tray.
    Do not load higher than the Load Limit 
    Mark (A).

    4Insert the Cassette  into the machine.
    Push the Cassette all the way into the machine.
    5Open the Paper Output Tray.
    (1)Open the Paper Output Tray.
    Press the Open button to open the Paper 
    Output Tray.
    (2) Open the Output Tray Extension.
    (3) Press the  Feed Switch  so that the Cassette 
    lamp (B) lights.
    6Specify the page size and media type settings according to the loaded paper.
    Note
    You can also select the paper source with the 
    printer driver.

    „Loading Envelopes
    Use either European DL or US Comm. Env. #10-sized envelope.
    With proper printer driver settings, the address will be printed according to the direction of 
    envelope.
    zLoading Envelopes in the Rear Tray
    1Prepare the envelopes.
    zPress down on all four corners and edges of the envelopes to flatten them.
    zIf the envelopes are curled, hold the opposite corners and gently twist them in the opposite 
    direction.
    zIf the corner of the envelope flap is folded, flatten it.
    zIf the leading edge of an envelope is puffed up or curled, use a pen to press the envelope 
    flat and sharpen the crease.
    Press the envelope flat, working from the middle to the edge.
    * The above illustrations show a side view of the leading edge of the envelope.
    ImportantzYou need to print from the computer to print on envelopes.
    zDo not use the following envelopes:
    – Envelopes with a double flap (or sticker flaps)
    – Envelopes with an embossed or treated surface
    – Envelopes with pressure seals
    – Envelopes whose gummed flaps are already moistened and adhesive
    Important
    The envelopes may jam in the machine if they are not flat or the edges are not aligned.
    Make sure that no curl or puff exceeds 0.1 inches / 3 mm.

    2Load the envelopes.
    (1) Load the envelope against the Cover Guide 
    (the right side of the Paper Support).
    Load with the address side facing UP and the 
    rear flaps DOWN on the left.
    Up to 10 envelopes can be loaded at once.
    (2) Pinch the Paper Guide and slide it against the 
    left side of the envelope.
    (3) Press the  Feed Switch  so that the Rear Tray lamp lights up.
    3Specify the settings in  the printer driver.
    (1)Select  Envelope  in Media Type .
    (2) Select the size for envelopes.
    In Windows
    ®, select  DL Env.  or Comm. Env. #10  in Page Size .
    In Macintosh®, select  DL Envelope  or #10 Envelope  in Paper Size .
    (3) Select  Landscape  in Orientation .
    Note
    Make sure that the Cover Guide is set upright 
    when you load envelopes in the Rear Tray.
    Important
    Do not slide the Paper Guide too hard. The 
    envelopes may not be fed properly.
    Note
    You can also select the paper source with the printer driver.

    Important
    Be sure to set the printer driver setting properly. If you do not, the address may be printed in the 
    wrong direction.

    zLoading Envelopes in the Cassette
    1Prepare the envelopes.
    See “Prepare the envelopes.” on page 30.
    2Load the envelopes.
    (1) Align the envelope stack against the right side 
    of the Cassette.
    Load with the address side facing DOWN. The 
    flap of the envelope will appear facing UP on 
    the left side.
    Up to 5 envelopes can be loaded at once.
    (2) Slide the Paper Guides against the sides of the 
    envelope.
    (3) Press the  Feed Switch  so that the Cassette 
    lamp lights up.
    3Specify the settings in  the printer driver.
    (1)Select  Envelope  in Media Type .
    (2) Select the size for envelopes.
    In Windows, select  DL Env. or Comm. Env. #10  in Page Size .
    In Macintosh, select  DL Envelope or #10 Envelope  in Paper Size .
    (3) Select  Landscape  in Orientation .
    Note
    You can also select the paper source with the 
    printer driver.
    For details, refer to the  PC Printing Guide on-
    screen manual.
    Important
    Be sure to set the printer driver setting properly. If you do not, the address may be printed in 
    the wrong direction.

    „ Loading Small-Sized Paper
    You can use 4 x 6 / 101.6 x 152.4 mm, 5 x 7 / 127.0 x 177.8 mm, and Credit card-sized 
    papers.
    zLoading Small-Sized Paper in the Rear Tray
    (1) Load the small-sized paper against the Cover 
    Guide (the right side of the Paper Support) with 
    the print side facing UP.
    (2) Pinch the Paper Guide and slide it against the 
    left side of the paper stack.
    (3) Press the  Feed Switch  so that the Rear Tray 
    lamp lights.
    (4) Specify the page size and media type settings according to the loaded paper.
    Important
    Always load paper in portrait orientation (A). Loading paper in landscape orientation (B) can cause 
    the paper to be jammed.
    Note
    Load Credit card-sized paper in the Rear Tray.
    Note
    Make sure that the Cover Guide is set upright 
    when you load paper in the Rear Tray.
    Note
    You can also select the paper source with the 
    printer driver.

    Copying
    Copying
    Making Copies
    This section describes the basic procedure to make  copies. For details, refer to “Copying” in the 
    User’s Guide  on-screen manual.
    1Turn on the machine.
    See “Turning the Machine On and Off” on page 14.
    2Press the COPY button to select the copy  mode if another mode has been 
    selected.
    3Load paper.
    See “Loading Printing Paper” on page 20.
    4Load the original document on the Pl aten Glass (A) or in the ADF (B).
    See “Handling the Original Document” on page 16.
    5Specify the copy settings.
    (1)Use the  { or  } button or the Numeric buttons to 
    specify the number of copies.
    (2) Use the  [ or  ] button to adjust the intensity.
    (3) Confirm the paper source, page size, media type, 
    and other settings.
    To change the paper source, press the  Feed 
    Switch . See “Changing the Paper Source” on 
    page 25.
    To change other settings, press the  Settings button.
    See “Setting Items” on page 36.
    6Press the  Color button for color copying, or the  Black button for black & white 
    copying.

    Press the Settings button in the copy mode to change the copy settings such as page size, media 
    type, and print quality.

    You can specify the settings of the printing paper, print quality, etc.
    (1) Page size
    Select the page size of the loaded paper.
    (2) Media type
    Select the media type of the loaded paper.
    (3) Print quality
    Adjust print quality according to the original.
    (4) Magnification
    Specify the reduction/enlargement method. For details, refer to “Reducing or Enlarging a 
    Copy” in “Making Copies” of the User’s Guide on-screen manual.

    You can specify whether to enable the automatic intensity adjustment.
    Note
    zTo change the tab, use the { or } button to select the tab and use the [ or ] button.
    zDepending on the functions, some setting items cannot be specified in combination.
    zThe settings of the page size, media type, and print quality are retained even if the machine is turned 
    off.
    Note
    zIf you used Fast with media type set to Plain paper and the quality is not as good as 
    expected, select Standard or High and try copying again.
    zSelect High to copy in grayscale. Grayscale renders tones in a range of grays instead of 
    black or white.
