„ Using the Platen Glass
1Open the Document Cover.
2Load the original document with the side  to be copied, scanned, or faxed facing 
down on the Platen Glass.
z To make copies or scan documents
Align the original document with the alignment 
mark as shown in the figure on the right.
Important
z Do not place any objects weighing more than 4.4 lb / 2.0 kg on the Platen Glass.
z Do not press or put weight on the original with pressure exceeding 4.4 lb / 2.0 kg.

zTo scan photographs
Place the photograph at least 0.4 inches / 10 
mm away from and in square with the edges of 
the Platen Glass.
(B) 0.4 inches / 10 mm
When setting two or more photographs at the 
same time, place them at least 0.4 inches / 10 
mm apart from each other.
(C) 0.4 inches / 10 mm
3Gently close the Document Cover.

„Using the ADF
1Remove any documents from the Platen Glass.
2Open the Document Tray.
3Load the original document with the side to 
be copied, scanned, or faxed facing up in the 
ADF.
4Adjust the Document Guides to match the 
document width.
Note
Set a document on the Platen Glass if you want to scan it at optimum quality.
Note
Ensure that the edge of the document stack is in line 
with the Paper Size Mark (A) imprinted on the 
Document Tray.

„ Hints for Handling the Paper Sources
This machine offers two paper sources to load printing paper; the Rear Tray (A) and the 
Cassette (B).
Here are some hints for handling these paper s ources according to how you are using them.
zWhen You Print on Photo Paper
Load photo paper, or any type of paper other than plain paper, in the Rear Tray. When any 
media type other than plain paper is selected fo r printing, paper is automatically fed from the 
Rear Tray.

Load plain paper in the Cassette. When plain paper is selected for printing, paper is 
automatically fed from the Cassette. Only A4, B5, A5, Letter, or Legal-sized paper can be 
loaded in the Cassette.

(1)Open the Rear Tray Cover and pull out the 
Paper Support.
Put your finger in the rounded indent of the 
Paper Support and pull it out until it stops.
(2) Open the Paper Output Tray.
Press the Open button to open the Paper 
Output Tray.
(3) Open the Output Tray Extension.
3Load the paper.
