17 Before Using the Machine 4Specify the page size settings according to the loaded paper. Notez When performing copy direct printing without using a computer, select the size of the loaded paper using the Operation Panel. For details on settings, see “Setting Items” on page 22 or “Setting Items” on page 30. z When using the machine connected to a computer, select the size of the loaded paper in Page Size (or Paper Size ) in the printer driver. 18Before Using the Machine „Loading Envelopes Envelopes must be fed from the Rear Tray. Use either European DL or US Comm. Env. #10-sized envelope. 1Prepare the envelopes. zPress down on all four corners and edges of the envelopes to flatten them. zIf the envelopes are curled, hold the opposite corners and gently twist them in the opposite direction. zIf the flap of an envelope is curled, flatten it. zIf the leading edge of an envelope is puffed up or curled, use a pen to press the envelope flat and sharpen the crease. Press the envelope flat, working from the middle to the edge. * The above illustrations show a side view of the leading edge of the envelope. Important zYou need to print from the computer to print on envelopes. zDo not use the following envelopes: – Envelopes with a double flap (or sticker flaps) – Envelopes with an embossed or treated surface – Envelopes with pressure seals – Envelopes whose gummed flaps are already moistened and adhesive Note In Windows®, print guidance will be displayed when envelopes are printed. To prevent display of print guidance, refer to “Printing Envelopes” in the PC Printing Guide on-screen manual. Important The envelopes may jam in the machine if they are not flat or the edges are not aligned. Make sure that no curl or puff exceeds 0.1 inches / 3 mm.
19 Before Using the Machine 2Load the envelopes. (1) Retract the Paper Support. (2) Load the envelope against the Cover Guide (the right side of the Paper Support). Load with the address side facing UP and the rear flaps DOWN on the left. Up to 10 envelopes can be loaded at once. (3) Slide the Paper Guide against the left side of the envelope. (4) Press the Feed Switch button so that the Rear Tray lamp (C) lights up. 3Specify the settings in the printer driver. (1)Select Envelope in Media Type . (2) Select the size for envelopes. In Windows, select DL Env. or Comm. Env. #10 in Page Size . In Macintosh, select DL Envelope or #10 Envelope in Paper Size . (3) Select Landscape in Orientation . Important Envelopes may not be fed properly if the Paper Support is extended. Note Make sure that the Cover Guide is set upright. Important Be sure to set the printer driver setting properly. If you do not, the address will be printed in the wrong direction. Note For details on printer driver settings, see “Printing with Windows” on page 32 or “Printing with Macintosh” on page 33. 20Before Using the Machine „Loading Small-Sized Paper You can use 4 x 6 / 101.6 x 152.4 mm, 5 x 7 / 127.0 x 177.8 mm, and Credit card-sized papers in the Rear Tray. 1Load the paper. (1) Load the paper against the Cover Guide (the right side of the Paper Support) with the print side facing UP. (2) Slide the Paper Guide against the left side of the paper stack. (3) Press the Feed Switch button so that the Rear Tr a y lamp (A) lights. 2Specify the page size and media type settings according to the loaded paper. Important Load small-sized paper only in the Rear Tray. Note Make sure that the Cover Guide is set upright. Note You can also select the paper source with the printer driver. For details, refer to the PC Printing Guide on-screen manual. 21 Copying Copying Making Copies This section describes the ba sic procedure to make copies. 1Turn on the machine. See “Turning the Machine On and Off” on page 4. 2Press the COPY button. 3Load paper. See “Loading Printing Paper” on page 10. 4Load the original on the Platen Glass (A) or the ADF. See “Loading Original Documents” on page 6. 5Specify the copy settings. (1)Press the { or } button or the Numeric buttons to specify the number of copies (max. 99 copies). (2) Press the [ or ] button to adjust the intensity. (3) Press the Settings button to adjust other settings as necessary. 22Copying Setting Items Press the Settings button in the copy mode to go the Copy settings screen. Ta b 1 You can specify the copy settings such as the page size, media type, or print quality. (1) Page size Select the page size of the loaded paper. (2) Media type Select the media type of the loaded paper. (3) Print quality Adjust print quality according to the original. (4) Magnification Specify the reduction/enlargement method. For details, refer to “Reducing or Enlarging a Copy” in “Setting Items” in “Copying” of the User’s Guide on-screen manual. NotezDepending on the functions, some setting items cannot be specified in combination. zPrint settings, except for magnification and automatic intensity adjustment settings, are retained even if the machine is turned off. Important You cannot load paper other than A4, Letter, or B5-sized plain paper in the Front Tray. When specifying a page size other than A4, 8.5x11(215x279), or B5, load paper in the Rear Tray. Important You cannot load paper other than A4, Letter, or B5-sized plain paper in the Front Tray. When specifying a media type other than Plain paper, load paper in the Rear Tray. Note zIf you used Fast with media type set to Plain paper and the quality is not as good as expected, select Standard or High and try copying again. zSelect High to copy in grayscale. Grayscale renders tones in a range of grays instead of black or white. Note Magnification settings are cleared when the machine is turned off. (1)(2)(3)(4)
23 Copying Ta b 2 You can specify whether to enable automatic intensity adjustment. (5) Auto intensity Specify whether the intensity is adjusted automatically. When Auto intensity ON is selected, Auto will be displayed above the intensity slide bar in the Copy standby screen. Important You can change the intensity by pressing the [ or ] button even when Auto intensity ON is selected. To enable auto intensity again, move the cursor to the center of the slide bar. NotezAutomatic intensity adjustment is set back to off when the machine is turned off. zAutomatic intensity adjustment is not available when scanning originals from the ADF. (5)

26Printing from a Memory Card Printable Image Data This machine supports JPEG and TIFF images created by DCF ver. 1.0/2.0 standard compliant digital cameras (Exif ver. 2.2/2.21 compliant). Important Compatible image types are limited to JPEG and TIFF only. Other image or movie types such as RAW images cannot be printed.
