    By setting various optional settings with the menus, you can set the 
    Picture Style, date/time, Custom F unctions, etc. While looking at the 
    LCD monitor, you use the < M> button on the camera back and the 
      dials.

    Menu Operations
    1Display the menu.
     Press the < M> button to display 
    the menu.
    2Select a tab.
      Turn the  dial to select a tab.
    3Select a menu item.
     Turn the  dial to select the menu 
    item, then press <
    0>.
    4Select the setting.
      Turn the  dial to select the 
    desired setting.
    5Set the desired setting.
      Press  to set it.
    6Exit the menu.
     Press the < M> button to exit the 
    menu and return to camera shooting.

    You can also use < 9> to select the tab and menu item. (Works only with

     What is displayed by [ 2 Image size ] depends on the [ Record func.] 
    setting under [ 5 Record func+media/folder sel. ]. If [Record func. ] is 
    set to [ Rec. separately ], select the image size for the respective memory 
    card. ( 1+ JPEG and  9+JPEG cannot be displayed.)
      Even while the menu is displayed, you can instantly go back to shooting 
    by pressing the shutter button halfway.
      The explanation of menu functions hereinafter assumes that you have 
    pressed the < M> button to display the menu screen.
      You can register frequently-used menu items under My Menu < 9>.

    1Select [Language].
     Under the [ 6] tab, select 
    [ Language ] (the third item from the 
    top), then press < 0>.
    2Set the desired language.
      Turn the < 5> dial to select the 
    language, then press < 0>.
    X The language will change.
    Check if the camera’s date and time  are set correctly. If necessary, set 
    the correct date and time.
    1Select [Date/Time].
      Under the [ 6] tab, select [ Date/
    Time ], then press < 0>.
    2Set the date, time and date display format.
     Turn the  dial to select the number.
      Press < 0> so   is displayed.
      Turn the < 5> dial to select the 
    desired setting, then press < 0>. 
    (Returns to  .)
    3Exit the menu.
      Turn the < 5> dial to select [ OK], 
    then press < 0>.
    X The date/time will be set and the 
    menu will reappear.

    It is important to set the correct date/time because it will be recorded 
    together with each captured image.

    Before You Start
    To save battery power, the camera turns off automatically after a certain 
    time of non-operation.
    You can change this auto power-off time.
    If you do not want the camera to turn off automatically, set this to [Off]. 
    After the power turns off, you can turn on the camera again by pressing 
    the shutter button or other button.
    1Select [Auto power off].
      Under the [ 5] tab, select [ Auto 
    power off ], then press < 0>.
    2Set the desired time.
      Turn the < 5> dial to select the item, 
    then press < 0>.
    If the memory card is new or was previously formatted by another 
    camera or personal computer, format the card with the camera. When the memory card is formatted, all images and data in the 
    card will be erased. Even protected images will be erased, so 
    make sure there is nothing you need to keep. If necessary, 
    transfer the images to a personal computer, etc., before 
    formatting the card.
    1Select [Format].
     Under the [ 5] tab, select [ Format], 
    then press < 0>.
    3  Set the Power-off Time/Auto Power Off

    Even if [Off] has been set, the LCD monitor will turn off automatically after 30 min. 
    to save power. Also, during Live View shooting, the Live View screen will turn off 
    automatically after 30 min. (The camera’s power will not turn off.)

    2Select the memory card.
     [f ] is the CF card, and [ g] is the SD 
    card.
      Turn the < 5> dial to select the card, 
    then press < 0>.
    3Select [OK].
      When [ g] is selected, low-level 
    formatting is possible. (p.49)
      Turn the < 5> dial to select [ OK], 
    then press < 0>.
    X The memory card will be formatted.
    X When the formatting is completed, 
    the menu will reappear.
      When the memory card is formatted or erased, only the file management 
    information is changed. The actual dat a is not completely erased. Be 
    aware of this when selling or discarding the card.
      When discarding the memory card, destr oy the card physically to prevent 
    personal data from being leaked.
      If a memory card-related error message is displayed on the LCD monitor, 
    remove and reinstall the card. If the error persists, use a different card. 
    If you can transfer all the images in the card to a personal computer, 
    transfer all the images and then format the card. The card may then 
    return to normal.
    The memory card capacity displayed on the card format screen might be 
    smaller than the  capacity indicated on the card.

    About Low-level Formatting
    When [g] SD card is selected, low-level formatting is possible. If the 
    writing speed to the SD card is slower than usual or if you want to 
    completely erase the data in the SD card, checkmark [ Low level 
    format ] and format the card.
    Press the < L> button.
      In step 3 on the preceding page, 
    press the < L> button. 
    X The [ Low level format ] option will be 
    checkmarked < X>.
      With < X> displayed, select [ OK] to 
    start the low-level formatting.
    The camera’s shooting settings and menu settings can be reverted to 
    the default.
    1Select [Clear all camera settings].
      Under the [ 7] tab, select [ Clear all 
    camera settings ], then press .
    2Select [OK].
      Turn the < 5> dial to select [ OK], 
    then press < 0>.
    X The camera’s default settings will be 
    as shown on the next page.
    3  Reverting Camera Se ttings to the Default
     Since low-level formatting will erase all recordable sectors in the SD 
    card, the formatting will take slightly longer than normal formatting.
      You can stop the low-level formatting by selecting [ Cancel]. Even in this 
    case, normal formatting will have been completed and you can use the 
    SD card as usual.
