Getting More Out of Your
Camera
This chapter serves as the advanced version of Chapter 4 and 
explains how to take pictures using various functions.
•This chapter assumes that the mode switch is set to 4 and the camera is 
in G mode.
•“  Taking Shots With Impact (Zoom Blur)” (p. 85), “≈ Shooting Long 
Exposures” (p. 92), “Changing the Color and Shooting” (p. 93) and 
“LShooting Stitch Assist Images” (p. 96) assume you have set the 
mode switch to 4 and selected the corresponding mode.

You can change the AF (Auto Focus) frame mode to match the conditions 
you want to shoot.
Select [AF Frame].
●Press the n button, select the 4 
tab, select [AF Frame], then press the qr 
buttons to select an option.
Face AiAF
•Detects people’s faces and sets the focus, exposure (evaluative metering only) 
and white balance (  only).
•When the camera is pointed at subjects, a white frame appears on the face the 
camera judges to be the main subject, and gray frames (max. 2) will appear on 
other faces....

Magnifying the Focal Point

If you press the shutter button halfway, the AF frame will magnify and you 
can check the focus.
Select [AF-Point Zoom].
●Press the n button and select [AF-
Point Zoom] on the 4 tab. Use the qr 
buttons to select [On].
Check the focus.
●Press the shutter button halfway.
XIn [Face AiAF], the face selected as the 
main subject will appear magnified.
XIn [Center], the contents of the center AF 
frame will appear magnified.
The display will not appear magnified in [Face AiAF]...

The focus can be locked. After locking the focus, the focal distance will not 
change even when you release your finger from the shutter button.
Lock the focus.
●Keep the shutter button pressed halfway 
and press the q button.
●The focus locks and  % is displayed on 
the screen.
●If you release your finger from the shutter 
button, and press the  q button once more, 
%  will disappear and the focus will 
unlock.
Compose the scene and shoot.

The optical zoom operates automatically during shooting, creating an image 
where the subject appears closed into the center of the screen.

press the m button.
XAfter the shutter sound plays, the camera 
will zoom.
 Taking Shots With Impact (Zoom Blur)
•The focal length is fixed. The zoom function is not available.
•Results will vary depending on the lighting conditions of the scene.

You can select a specific person’s face to focus on and then shoot.
Register 0 to the c button

Set the Face Select mode.

the flash. FE stands for “Flash Exposure”.

The camera can automatically detect and compensate for faces or subjects 
that appear dark in certain shooting conditions.
Select [i-Contrast].
●Press the n button, select 
[i-Contrast] from the 4 tab, and use the 
qr buttons to select [Auto].

You can automatically correct red eyes in images taken with the flash.
Select [Flash Settings].
●Press the n button, select [Flash 
Settings] from the 4 tab and press the

Adjust the setting.

qr buttons to select [On].
