Control panel overview1
 
1 Fax and telephone keys: „Duplex Copy  
Press this key to copy on both sides of the 
paper.
„ Hook
Press before dialing if you want to make 
sure a fax machine will answer, and then 
press  Black Start  or Color Start . 
Also, press this key after picking up the 
handset of an external telephone during the 
F/T pseudo/double-ring.
„ Redial/Pause
Redials the last 30 numbers called. It also 
inserts a pause when dialing numbers.

5On/OffYou can turn the machine on or off.
The On/Off key can be customized by 
changing the Power Off setting.
6  Stop/Exit
Stops an operation or exits from a menu.
7 LCD (liquid crystal display) This is a Touchscreen LCD. You can access 
the menus and options by pressing buttons 
displayed on the screen.
Also, you can adjust the angle of the display by 
lifting it. 
8 One Touch keys These 3 keys give you instant access to 6 
previously stored numbers.

when the machine is idle.
 
1 Wireless Status A four level indicator shows the current 
wireless signal strength if you are using a 
wireless connection. 
2 Memory Status Lets you see the available memory in the 
machine.
3 Current Receive Mode Lets you see the current receive mode.„ Fax  (Fax only)
„ F/T  (Fax/Tel)

Basic Operations1
To operate the Touchscreen use your finger 
to press the MENU or option button directly on 
the LCD screen. To access more menus or 
options in a setting, press  dc or  ab to scroll 
through them.
IMPORTANT
DO NOT press the Touchscreen with a 
sharp object, such as a pen or stylus. It 
may damage the machine.
 
The following steps show how to change a 
setting in the machine. In this example the 
Sleep mode setting is changed from 
10 Mins  to 5 Mins .

• For Tray #2, see Loading paper in paper 
tray #2  on page 13.
• If the tray used for Fax mode is set to  Auto Select  you should open and close 
the scanner cover to reset the machine 
after refilling paper tray #1.
• When you load a different size of paper in  Tray #1 or Tray #2, you will need to 
change the paper size setting in the 
machine at the same time. (See  Paper 
Size and Type  on page 28.)

cWith both hands, gently press and slide 
the paper side guides (1) and then the 
paper length guide (2) to fit the paper 
size.
Make sure that the triangular marks (3) 
on the paper side guides (1) and paper 
length guide (2) line up with the mark for 
the paper size you are using.
 
dFan the stack of paper well to avoid 
paper jams and misfeeds.
 
IMPORTANT
Always make sure that the paper is not 
curled.
 
eGently put the paper into the paper tray 
print side down and...

gClose the output paper tray cover.
Check that the paper is flat in the tray 
and below the maximum paper mark (1).
 
hSlowly push the paper tray completely 
into the machine.
 
CAUTION 
DO NOT push Tray #1 into the machine too 
quickly. Doing this may cause injury to your 
hand by trapping it between Tray #1 and 
Tray #2. Please push Tray #1 in slowly.
 
iWhile holding the paper tray in place, 
pull out the paper support (1) until it 
clicks, and then unfold the paper 
support flap (2)....

You can only use plain paper sizes 
Ledger, Letter, Legal, Executive, A3 or A4 
in Tray #2.
 
aPull the paper tray completely out of the
