Note • There are many factors that determine the actual drum life, such as the temperature, humidity, type of paper, type of toner used and so on. Routine Maintenance 102 6 Replacing the drum unit6 IMPORTANT While removing the drum unit, handle it carefully because it may contain toner. Every time you replace the drum unit, clean the inside of the printer.See Cleaning on page 106. When you replace the drum unit with a new one, you need to reset the drum counter by completing the following steps: aPress the front cover release button and then open the front cover. bTake out the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly.

To avoid print quality problems, DO NOT touch the shaded parts shown in the illustrations. dUnpack the new drum unit. IMPORTANT Wait to unpack a drum unit until immediately before you put it in the printer. Once all four LEDs are lit, release Go. IMPORTANT Do not reset the drum counter when you only replace the toner cartridge. hClose the front cover. iMake sure that the Drum LED is now off.

When you replace the toner cartridge or the drum unit, make sure that you clean the inside of the printer.
