DISASSEMBLY PROCEDURE 2 2 2 2 - -- - 1 1 1 1 Chapter Disassembly Procedure Please follow the information provided in this section to perform the complete disassembly procedure of the notebook. Be sure to use proper tools described before. 500A Series Notebook consists of various modules. This chapter describes the procedures for the complete notebook disassembly. In addition, in between procedures, the detailed disassembly procedure of individual modules will be provided for your service needs. The disassembly procedure consists of the following steps: • Battery module • ODD module • HDD module • Memory Module • Keyboard Module • CPU Module • LCD Module • Top cover Module • Base cover & Motherboard Module Z
DISASSEMBLY PROCEDURE 2 2 2 2 - -- - 2 22 2 Batter y module The illustration below shows how to remove the battery module. 1. Turn the notebook over. Unlock one latch (no.1) and remove the battery pack from bottom side (no.2). Removing ROM driver 1. Unlock ODD button and separate optical device from base unit. BATTERY 2 1 2 ROM DRIVER REMOVAL 1
DISASSEMBLY PROCEDURE 2 2 2 2 - -- - 3 33 3 HDD Module The illustrations below show how to remove the HDD module from the notebook. Removing HDD Module 1. Release 2 screws (no.1 M2.5x4.0) from bottom of notebook. 2. Pull out the HDD module from front side of notebook. (no.2). Disassembling HDD Module 1. Remove 2 screws (no.1 M3*0.5 + 3.5I (K) B-NI) on both side of the HDD module. Please do not touch inside of the HDD module. The below illustration is HDD tray ASSY. DISASSEMBLY PROCEDURE 2 2 2 2 - -- - 4 44 4 Memor y Module The illustrations below show how to remove the Memory module from the notebook. The Z500A Series Notebook comes standard without memory onboard. There are two expansion SODIMM sockets for you to upgrade the total memory up to 2GB with two 1024 MB modules. Removing Memory module 1. Remove two screws (no1; M2.5x4 B) to take off RAM door from bottom side. 2. If there is an existing memory, remove it by opening the latches (no. 2), which will pop the module up to a 45° angle, and then pulling out the module in that angle (no. 3). DISASSEMBLY PROCEDURE 2 2 2 2 - -- - 5 55 5 Keyboard Module The illustration below shows how to remove the K/B cover and keyboard plate. Removing K/B cover 1. Release two screws (no1,2; M2x4) from K/B cover on left and right side. 2. Press the “Numlk” key to pry the keyboard cover (no.1) open then slide right it to separate top cover module. 3. DISASSEMBLY PROCEDURE 2 2 2 2 - -- - 6 66 6 4. Remove 2 screws (no.1,2; M2.5x4.0) to separate keyboard module. Removing Keyboard Cable 1. Use a flexible connector tool to unlock the cable connector on both ends (no. 1). 2. Carefully pull out the keyboard cable (no. 2) with a pair or tweezers. 3. Lock the connector (no. 3) again to avoid possible breakage. 4. Finally the keyboard plate can be removed from the notebook. CABLE REMOVAL 1 2 1. Unlock 2. Cable out 3. Loc k 1. Unlock 3. Loc k
DISASSEMBLY PROCEDURE 2 2 2 2 - -- - 7 77 7 CPU Module The illustrations below show how to remove the CPU module from the notebook. The module contains CPU, CPU thermal pad, and CPU thermal module. Removing CPU 1. Remove 3 screws (no.1~4;M2x9.0 spring screw) to unlock CPU FAN. And disconnect the CPU FAN cable (no.4). 2. Using one-slot screwdriver to turn right direction to loosen the CPU socket. 3. Use the CPU vacuum to “suck up” the CPU and lift the CPU away. CPU REMOVAL CPU 4 1 3 2
DISASSEMBLY PROCEDURE 2 2 2 2 - -- - 8 88 8 LCD module The illustrations below show how to remove and disassemble the LCD module. The module contains LCD panel, inverter board, LCD hinge bracket, hinge cover, LCD bezel and LCD cover. Removing LCD Module 1. Remove totally 4 screws (M2.5x8) then take away 2 wireless antennas on both sides. 2. Disconnect the LCD cable (no. 2) from the motherboard. 3. Lift straight up the LCD module to separate from the system. LCD LCD REMOVAL 1 12
DISASSEMBLY PROCEDURE 2 2 2 2 - -- - 9 99 9 Disassembling LCD Module 1. Remove 4 rubber pads & screws from the LCD module (no1; M2.5x4.0). 2. Carefully pry the inside edges of the LCD case open on all four edges with your fingers. Then, lift the LCD bezel away from the LCD module. 3. Remove 8 screws (no.1; M2x3.0) to separate the LCD both side Hinge from LCD panel and 6 screws (no2; M2.5x4.0;) on both side hinges then take hinges away from LCD module. 4. DISASSEMBLY PROCEDURE 2 2 2 2 - -- - 10 1010 10 Top cover Module The illustrations below show how to disassemble and remove the top cover module of the notebook. The module contains the top cover itself and touch pad module. Removing Top cover Module 1. Remove 7 screws (no.1; M2.5x6.0) on front bottom side of notebook. 2. Remove 2 screws (no.2; M2.5x6.0) on right side of notebook 3. Remove 6 screws (no.3; M2.5x6.0) on rear bottom side of notebook. 4. Remove 2 screws (no.4; M2.5x6.0) on middle of back notebook. 5. Remove 1 screw (no.5; M2.5x4.0) on battery bay. 6. Remove 2 screws (no.1;M2.5x4) from rear side of notebook. TOP COVER ASSY. TOP CASE MODULE REMOVE 2 1 3 4 1 5
