Unbleachedlinen Unbleachedlinenfabricsshouldbewashedat 140°F(60°C),usingdetergentcontainingno bleachoropticalwhiteners.Heavily-soiledlinen canoccasionallybewashedathigher temperatures,butnottoooftenastheheatcan destroythelinen’ssheenandstrength. Wool Thesefabricsarelabeledeithermachinewash orhandwash.TheWoolprogramisatleastas gentleaswashingbyhand. Woolisespeciallysensitivetoprocessessuchas washing. Ifyoudonotwishtospindry,youcansqueeze outthewaterusingterryclothtowels.Inthiscase selectNospin. Tofindouthowtochoosethissetting,seethe "Operatinginstructions"chapter.However,most garmentscanwithstandashortspin.Choosea shortspinbyselectingaspinspeedof800rpm orless. Rayonfibersandsyntheticfibers Materialsmadeofrayonfibers,suchasviscose, andsomesyntheticfibersareverydelicateand requiremuchspacetoavoidwrinkling.Onlyhalf fillthedrumwhenwashingandchooseaspin speedof800rpmorlower. NOTE! Viscoseandacetatesarefragilewhenwet. Stainremoval Theautomaticstainprogramcanbeusedforthe followingtypesofstains:Chocolate,Blood,Red wine,Egg,Grass,Dairyproducts,Coffee/Tea, Butter/Grease,andBlueberry.Theprogramis suitableforcotton,cotton/synthetics,and synthetics. NOTE! Forstainremovalitisalwaysimportanttotreat thestainassoonaspossible.Leavingastain andallowingittodrymakesitmoredifficultto remove.Itisalsoimportanttocarefullyscrape offanyofthestainonthesurfaceofthegarment. Economyandefficiency Youcansavealotofenergybynotusinghigher temperatureprogramsthannecessary. •SelectQuickifyoujustneedtofreshenup shirtsorexerciseclothes,forexample.This willsavebothwaterandenergy. •Ifyouselectafastspinspeed,thisreduces energyconsumptionwhendryinginatumble dryerordryingcabinet. •Alwayswashwithafullloadwhenusingthe Sani,Color,andWhiteprograms. •Avoidpre-washing.Modernmachinesand detergentscleaneffectivelywithout pre-washing.Pre-washingisonlynecessary forheavilysoiledlaundry. Detergents Eco-labeleddetergentsarelessharmfultothe environment. Detergentoverdosingdoesnotgivebetter washingresults;itmerelycausesagreaterimpact ontheenvironment. Trytouselessdetergent,andincreaseonlyifyou arenotsatisfiedwiththeresults. Dyeingfabrics Ifyouwanttodyefabricsinthemachine,select theColorprogramwiththeSuperRinseoption. Selectthetemperatureaccordingtothedye manufacturer’srecommendations. Choosealowspinspeedifthefabrictobedyed isablendedmaterial,suchas polyester/cotton. NOTE! Addthedyedirectlytothewashingdrum–not tothedetergentcompartment.Afterdyeing,you shouldrunthemachineemptyusingthesame program.Usethenormalamountofdetergent. NOTE! Duetoenvironmentalconcerns,wediscourage theuseofstrongchemicals. Whenusingagentsforbleachingorstain removal,thereisariskofrust(corrosion)and discolorationofthemachine. Liquiddetergents Wedon’trecommendliquiddetergentsbecause theytendtoproducemoresudsthanpowder detergentswhenusedinwatertemperaturesof 150°Forhigher.Ifyoushouldtryaliquid detergent,startwithaverysmallamount,such as1to2tablespoons.Also,liquiddetergentcan beusedforallprogramswithoutprewash,soadd itintothemainwashcompartment. Detergents Laundrydetergentsareavailableinlow-,normal- andhigh-sudsingformulas.Adetergent´sability tocleanisnotrelativetotheamountofsudsit produces.Excesssudsinafront-loadingwasher actuallyinterferewiththecleaningbecausethey cushionthetumblingaction.Also,high-sudsing detergentsaremoredifficulttocompletelyrinse out. Theuseofanythingotherthanalow-sudsing detergentcancausesevereoversudsing,which couldcausesudstobackupthroughthedetergent compartmentandrundownthefrontofthewasher ontothefloor.Ifoversudsingoccurs,runthewash throughoneormorerinseprogramsuntilallitems arethoroughlyrinsed.Removethelaundrythen runthewasherthroughaNormalwashprogram togetridofanyremainingdetergent. Werecommendthatyoudon’tusebleachinyour ASKOwasher.Thetumblingwashaction, temperaturecontroloptions,extendedwashtimes andproperamountofdetergentaresufficientto removemoststains. Recommendedpowderdetergents ASKOwashersuse50%to75%lessdetergent thanmostotherwashers.Thisisbecauseoftheir lowwaterconsumptionandthefactthatallthe washwaterisrepeatedlycirculatedthroughthe laundry,ensuringthatallthedetergentisfully utilized.Werecommendthatyouusepowder detergentsmadespecificallyforfront-loading washers.ThesearesometimescalledHE (High-Efficiency)detergents.Pleasevisitour homepagewww.askousa.comtoseethepowder detergentswerecommendforASKOwashers. Werecommendthatyoudonotuseanypowder detergentthatdoesn’twashcompletelyoutofthe detergentdrawer. DetergentAmountsBasedonWater Hardness Theamountofdetergentneededcanvarydueto differencesinwaterhardness.Todeterminethe waterhardnessinyourarea,contactyourlocal waterutilityorareawatersofteningcompany.The harderthewater,themoredetergentyoumay need.Refertothechartbelowforthe recommendeddetergentamountsbasedonwater hardness.Remember,youshouldadjustthe amountofdetergentyouusebysmallamounts untilyoufindthecorrectamount. Notethat12grainsandhigherisextremelyhard wateranddetergentalonemaynotbeenough. Youmayneedtouseawatersoftenertomaximize theperformanceofyourwasher.Also,inareas withhardwater(9+)youmayneedtowashat lowertemperaturestopreventhardwaterdeposits fromforminginthetankandwashsystem. Amountofdetergenttouse Theamountofdetergentneededvariesamong thedifferentbrands,butformostdetergents,you needonlyoneortwotablespoons.Usingtoo muchdetergentcanresultindetergentresidue beingleftinyourclothes,whichcancausethem toappeargrayordingy.Youshouldstartwitha smallamountofdetergentandincreaseitonlyif thecleaningresultsareunsatisfactory. Additionally,youshouldneverputdetergentin theprewashcompartmentunlessyouareusing awashprogramthathasaprewashcycle.This couldcauseexcessfoaming,whichcoulddamage themachine.
