Outdoor Antenna Grounding If an outside antenna or cable system is connected to the product, be sure the antenna or cable system is grounded so as to provide some protection against voltage surges and built-up static charges. Article 810 of the National Electrical Code (U.S.A.), ANSI/ NFPA 70 provides informa- tion with regard to proper grounding of the mast and sup- porting structure, grounding of the lead-in wire to an antenna discharge unit, size of grounding conductors, loca- tion of antenna-discharge unit, connection to grounding electrodes, and requirements for the grounding electrode. 15. Lightning For added protection for this product (receiver) during a lightning storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for long periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet and disconnect the antenna or cable system. This will prevent damage to the product due to lightning and power-line surges. 16. Power Lines An outside antenna system should not be located in the vicinity of overhead power lines or other electric light or power circuits, or where it can fall into such power lines or circuits. When installing an outside antenna system, extreme care should be taken to keep from touching such power lines or circuits as contact with them might be fatal. 17. Overloading Do not overload wall outlets and extension cords as this can result in a risk of fire or electric shock. 18. Object and Liquid Entry Never push objects of any kind into this product through openings as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short-out parts that could result in a fire or electric shock. Never spill liquid of any kind on the product.19. Servicing Do not attempt to service this product yourself as opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage or other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service per- sonnel. 20. Damage Requiring Service Unplug this product from the wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following condi- tions: a. 1.3 Insert batteries in the remote control Figure 5 shows the remote control with the battery lid removed. Slide off the battery lid and insert the batteries with the + and - poles correct. Slide the battery lid back on again.1.4 Connect projector to power supply Plug in your projector. Do not plug it into a switched outlet. Your Zenith projector is designed to operate on standard current, 120-volt, 60 Hertz AC. Do not attempt to operate it on DC current.The registration card or copy of invoice is your proof of purchase. Please make sure that the registration card is returned in order to get the warranty service you are entitled to. NOTE! Please use caution when transporting the unit.WARNING! Important information 8 1. Before you startThank you for choosing a Zenith projectorYour Zenith projector will display high bright- ness images with vivid colors, even under nor- mal light conditions. As input for your presen- tation you can use CD-ROM, Photo CDs, Laser Disks, DVD, normal VCRs or computers. You can have multiple inputs connected simultaneously for a high impact multimedia presentation. Thanks to the unique Graphical User Interface, the projector offers true plug-and-play opera- tion.1.1 Color coding for ease of useAll connectors, plugs and buttons on the prod- uct are color coded to make the connections and operation easy and intuitive. The procedure for connecting a video source to the projec- tor is the same for S-Video and Composite video.SECAM, PAL N and PAL M modes are manually selected by pressing the “Green Button“. If the right format is not found the first time, press again. The video format is stored separately for each connector. 1.Make sure that the video source and the projector are switched off. 2.Connect the video cable from the Video out connector of the video source to the correct video connector on the projector plug panel. 4.When all the connections are done and verified, switch on the video source and the projector. 5.The projector will now automatically display the pictures from the video source. If not, see the section ‘What do I do if’.4. Connecting a video source to the projectorFigure 6 Connecting to video sources VIDEO RS-232 MONITOR IN C RB H-SYNC V-SYNC S-VIDEO The procedure for connecting a computer to the projector is the same for all types of computers.1.Make sure the computer, monitor and projector are switched off. 2.Identify the RGB out connector on the back of your computer (where you connect a monitor to the computer).3.Connect the RGB output from the computer using a 15 pin VGA type cable (not includ- ed) to the connector on the projector labeled “monitor in”.You can optionally use the gold BNC connectors to connect to your computer. 4.Turn on the projector and then the com- puter. The computer image should now be projected from the projector. If the com- puter’s image is not displayed simulta- neously on the monitor, see the attached section “what to do if”.3. The Remote control is very easy to operate. It has only six keys in addition to the pressure sensing mouse pad. The six keys are:Key underneath the controlLeft mouse keySmall gray keyInterrupt/break an action (right mouse key)MenuThe menu key gives access to the menu control functions. To move within the various menu functions, position the arrow cursor by pressing the sensitive mouse pad and click with the left mouse button which is located underneath the remote control. If you are in menu mode and press the menu key you will return to normal mode.ZapThe two zap keys can be programmed to perform an assigned function. To assign a func- tion to the zap keys, select the Zap icon from the menu. The zap keys can be programmed todo the same function e.g. volume up/down. See section 6.2.4 for further explanations of the zap menu. QuickWhen pressing the Quick key you can switch between all selected functions for the Quick key. See section 6.2.3. for how to select func- tions for the Quick key. MENU QUICK ON ZAP 1OFF ZAP 2 Figure 9: Remote control 5.1 Different program modes for your Zenith projectorThe projector has the following modes of operation:• Stand-by mode • Normal mode • Quick mode • Menu mode • Pointer mode • Blank mode Stand-by mode (see section 5.3)In stand-by mode the projector is turned off and can be turned on by using defined keys.Normal modeIn normal mode a picture will be shown on the screen. Quick mode (see section 6.2.3)Quick mode is used with the interactive remote control (quick key). You assign functionality for the quick key on the remote control in the quick menu (see section 6.2.3). When clicking on the Quick key you will be able to switch between all the functions you have selected in this menu.Menu mode In menu mode the menu system is activated and you use the mouse pad and the mouse but- tons on the remote control to navigate in the menu. Pointer mode (see section 6.2.4)In pointer mode you can move a pointer cursor on the screen by using the mouse function.Blank mode (see section 6.2.4)In blank mode the screen is blanked out (black). 5.2 Remote controlTo access the Main Menu and control the varous image adjustments and utility functions of the projector Point the remote control towards the projection screen. An infra-red beam bounces from the screen to an infra-red receiver on the projector.Note! Make sure nothing is blocking the IR receiver in front of projector located beside the lens, as this will prevent the communi- cation between the remote control and the projector. To ensure smooth operation, the combined distance from the remote control to the screen and back to the projector should not exceed 33 feet (10 m). If the distance via the screen is longer, you should point the remote control directly towards the IR receiver. 5. Using Your Zenith projector 12 13
5.4 Adjusting the height and angle of the projectorYou can adjust the height and angle of the projector by adjusting the four small feet underneath the product. Note! The projector should never be left with an angle of more than 15 degrees over a long period of time. Doing so will shorten the lifetime of the lamp.5.5 Aspect Ratio Selection Aspect Ratio selection.In this menu you can select the aspect ratio of 4:3 or 16:9.6.1 The menu systemMain menu. Menu with video input. 6.1.1 Main menuThe main menu is divided into two parts:• Icons • Help text IconsThe icons illustrate a function and are grouped into groups with similar functionality. Clicking an icon activates it. Some icons have a direct function and some will activate a second level menu.Help textBy moving the cursor over the icons the text area will give a short description of the icon.Stand-byThe stand-by key will set the projector in stand-by mode. The lamp will turn off, and the fans will run for a little while cooling the projector before stopping. To return to normal mode, press the Menu key on the remote control. 6. Using the menus 5.3 Using the touch panel on the projectorThe touch panel gives you direct access to the most important functions of the projector. The key functions are as follows:SourceThe projector has direct keys for four sources: Functionality• Computer (PC) • Composite video • S-video Stand byThe stand by key will set the projector in stand by mode. To return to normal mode, press the Stand by key once more, or press the Menu key on the remote control.Automatic set-upThe automatic set-up key will set up the projector with optimal settings for the connected source. If you want to do manual adjustments you can do this by using the menus (see section 6). Brightness/Contrast Controls the brightness and contrast of the image. Saturation/Tint The saturation key is to control the satura- tion of the image in PAL/SECAM mode. The tint key is to control the tint of the image when NTSC mode is chosen. Note! 17 16 17 6.2 Set-up menuSet-up menuIn the set-up menu the following sub-menus are available:• Picture orientation • Language • Quick key assignment • ZAP keys assignment • Accumulated lamptime 6.2.1 Picture orientation Picture orientationThe picture orientation menu is used for rotating and mirroring the picture.NormalNormal is used when the projector is standing on a table projecting a picture on a screen.MirrorMirror is used when the projector is projecting a picture from behind the screenRotateRotate is used when the projector is ceiling mounted and projecting an image from the front.Rotate and mirrorRotate and mirror is used when the projector is ceiling mounted and projects the picture from behind the screen. Auto set-upAuto set-up will do automatic set-up of the projector:• Horizontal and vertical position • Sampling clock • Phase • Chooses between available video formats and NTSC/PAL auto detection SourceYou can connect three different sources to the projector; one computer source, two video sources. You select the source you want to use by click- ing on the icon representing the source. Use the pressure-sensing pad on the remote mouse to move the mouse pointer to an icon and click the button (left mouse) underneath the remote mouse.Set-up menuIn this menu you set up the projector with settings that will not be changed often, e.g. language or picture orientation. Control panelIn this menu you can make adjustments for picture.Removing the main menuTo remove the menu system, press the MENU key on the Remote control. You can also remove the menu by clicking the right mouse button (on the top of the remote control). The right mouse button will also function as cancel when in the menus. The menu will disappear in 40 seconds. Product informationClick on the product information icon for information about the product and support. Press the main menu button again to exit this screen.
19 18 19 6.2.4 Zap menuZap menuThe Zap menu is used to assign functions to the zap keys on the remote control. The menu consists of two columns of buttons where the left column assigns the functions to the left key and the right column assigns the functions to the right key. Note: Un-selecting all boxes for Zap 1 assigns the “Zap 1’ button on the remote to Power-up the projector from stand-by mode. Un-selecting all boxes for Zap 2 assigns the “Zap 2” button on the remote to function as the Power-down (stand-by) button.PointerYou can activate the pointer function in the projector. One click activates the pointer and the next click deactivates it.BlankActivates blank mode by pressing the Zap key. First click will activate Blank mode and second click will deactivate it. ComputerSelects Computer as the source. VideoSelects video sources. Both Zap keys can be programmed to select Video.6.2.5 Show accumulated lamp timeShow accumulated lamp timeIn this window you can see the accumulated time that the lamp has been in use. You also use this window to reset the accumulated lamp time after the lamp has been replaced. 6.2.2 LanguageLanguage selectionThis menu allows you to choose between six different menu languages: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Norwegian. Click in the box next to the language you want to use. Click on the OK button. The window will disappear, and the selected language will be used in the main menu and in all other menus. 6.2.3 Quick menuQuick menu settingsIn the quick menu you can assign functionality for the quick key on the remote control. When clicking on the quick key you will be able to switch between all the functions you have selected in this menu. You adjust the bar by either pressing the pressure-sensing pad right or left or you may use one of the two zap keys on the remote control. To accept the adjust- ment, and terminate the quick menus click on the left mouse button. To get back to the orig- inal setup, click on the right mouse button. The next click on the quick key will accept the adjustment and activate the brightness func- tion and a brightness bar will be shown at the bottom of the page. When you have gone through all assigned functions the menu will disappear. 18
