ProblemProcedureBattery doesn’t charge when the AC adaptor is attached.If the battery is completely discharged, it will not begin charging immediately, in these instances you should wait a few minutes before trying again. If the battery still does not charge, you should check that the power outlet the AC adaptor is connected to its supplying power - this can be tested by plugging another appliance into it. Check whether the battery is hot or cold to the touch - if so, it will not charge properly and should be allowed to reach room temperature before you try again. Unplug the AC adaptor and remove the battery to make sure its connecting terminals are clean - if necessary wipe them with a soft dry cloth lightly dipped in alcohol. Connect the AC adaptor and replace the battery, taking care to ensure that it is securely seated in the computer. Check the DC IN/Battery indicator - if it does not glow, allow the computer to charge the battery for at least twenty minutes. If the DC IN/Battery indicator starts to glow after this period, allow the battery to continue to charge for at least another twenty minutes before turning on the computer. However, if the indicator still does not glow, the battery may be at the end of its operating life and should be replaced. However, if you do not believe the battery is at the end of its operating life, you should speak to TOSHIBA Support.Battery doesn’t power the computer as long as expectedIf you frequently recharge a partially charged battery, the battery might not charge to its full potential - in these instances you should fully discharge the battery and then attempt to charge it again.Check the Power saver option under Select a power plan in the Power Options . Real Time ClockProblemProcedureThe BIOS setting and system date/ time are lost.The charge in the Real Time Clock (RTC) battery has run out - you will need to set the date and time in the BIOS setup application by using the following steps: 1. In the Settings charm, click Power and then select Restart . 2. Hold down the F2 key and then release this key one second after the computer is power on - the BIOS setup utility will load. 3. Set the date in the System Date field. 4. Set the time in the System Time field. 5. Press F10 - a confirmation message will be displayed. 6. Press the ENTER key - the BIOS setup application will end and the computer will restart. Keyboard Keyboard problems can be caused by the setup and configuration of the computer - please refer to the The Keyboard section for further information. ProblemProcedureOutput to screen is garbledPlease refer to your software's documentation to ensure that it is not remapping the keyboard in any way (remapping involves changing or reassigning the function of each key). If you are still unable to use the keyboard, you should contact TOSHIBA Support. Internal display panel Apparent computer's display panel problems may be related to the computer's setup and configuration. ProblemProcedureMarkings appear on the computer's display panel.These marks may have come from contact with the keyboard and Touch Pad while the display panel has been closed. You should try to remove the marks by gently wiping the display panel with a clean dry cloth or, if this fails, with a good quality LCD screen cleaner. In this latter instance you should always follow the instructions with the screen cleaner and always ensure you let the display panel dry properly before closing it. Hard Disk Drive ProblemProcedureComputer does not boot from Hard Disk DriveCheck to see whether there is a disc in the optical disc drive - if so remove it and try to start the computer again. If this has no effect, check the Boot Priority Options setting within the TOSHIBA System Settings.Slow performanceThe files on the Hard Disk Drive may be fragmented - in this instance you should run the disk Defragmentation utility to check the condition of your files and the Hard Disk Drive. Please refer to the operating system's documentation or online Help File for further information on operating and using the Defragmentation utility. As a last resort you should reformat the Hard Disk Drive and then reload the operating system and all other files and data. If you are still unable to resolve the problem, contact TOSHIBA Support. ProblemProcedureYou cannot access a CD/DVD/Blu-ray Disc™ in the driveMake sure the drive’s disc tray is securely closed. Press gently until it clicks into place. Open the disc tray and make sure the disc is properly seated. It should lie flat with the label facing up. A foreign object in the disc tray could block laser light from reading the disc. Make sure there is no obstruction. Remove any foreign object. Check whether the disc is dirty. If it is, wipe it with a clean cloth dipped in water or a neutral cleaner. Memory Media Card For further information, please refer to Operating Basics. ProblemProcedureMemory media card error occursRemove the memory media card from the computer and then reinsert it in order to ensure it is firmly connected. If the problem persists, then you should refer to the documentation supplied with your memory media card for further information.You cannot write to a memory media cardRemove the memory media card from the computer and check to ensure that it is not write protected.You cannot read a fileCheck to ensure the required file is actually on the memory media card that is inserted into the computer. To access this utility, click Desktop -> Desktop Assist -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Mouse . 2. Within the Mouse Properties window, click the Buttons tab. 3. Set the double-click speed as required and click OK.The on-screen pointer moves too fast or too slowIn this instance, you should initially try changing the speed setting within the Mouse Control utility. 1. To access this utility, click Desktop -> Desktop Assist -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Mouse . 2. Within the Mouse Properties window, click the Pointer Options tab. 3. Set the pointer speed as required and click OK.The reaction of Touch pad is either too sensitive or not sensitive enough.Adjust the touch Sensitivity. Check the software volume settings. Please check to see if Mute is turned to Off Check to make sure the headphone connection is secure. Check within the Windows Device Manager application to ensure the sound device is enabled and that the device is properly working.Annoying sound is heardIn this instance you may be experiencing feedback from either the internal microphone or an external microphone connected to the computer - please refer to Sound System and Video mode for further information. Volume cannot be adjusted during Windows start up or shut down. If you are still unable to resolve the problem, contact TOSHIBA Support. External monitor Please also refer to Operating Basics, and to the documentation supplied with your monitor for further information. ProblemProcedureMonitor does not turn onAfter confirming that the monitor's power switch is on, you should check the connections to make sure that the power cord/adaptor is firmly connected to the monitor and to a working power outlet. ProblemProcedureNo displayTry adjusting the contrast and brightness controlson the external monitor. Press the function key in order to change the display priority and ensure that it is not set for the internal display only. Check to see if the external monitor is connected. When the external monitor is set as the primary display device in extended desktop mode, it will not display when the computer wakes up from Sleep Mode if the external monitor has been disconnected while in Sleep Mode. To keep this from happening, do not disconnect the external monitor while the computer is in Sleep or Hibernation Mode. Remember to turn off the computer before disconnecting the external monitor. When the display panel and an external monitor are set to clone mode and they are turned off by the timer, the display panel or the external monitor may not display when turned on again. If this occurs, press the function key to re-set the display panel and external monitor to clone mode.Display error occursCheck that the cable connecting the external monitor to the computer is firmly attached. If you are still unable to resolve the problem, contact TOSHIBA Support. LAN ProblemProcedureCannot access LANCheck for a firm cable connection between the LAN jack and the LAN hub.Wake-up on LAN does not workMake sure the AC adaptor is connected. Wireless LANProblemProcedureCannot access Wireless LANMake sure the computer's Wireless communication function is on. If problems persist, contact your LAN administrator. Bluetooth ProblemProcedureCannot access Bluetooth deviceCheck to ensure the computer's Wireless Communication function is on. Check to ensure the Bluetooth Manager application is running on the computer and that power to the external Bluetooth device is turned on. Check to ensure that no optional Bluetooth Adaptor is installed in the computer - the built-in Bluetooth hardware cannot operate simultaneously with another Bluetooth controller. If you are still unable to resolve the problem, contact TOSHIBA Support.
