31 RQT6523 Cassette deck operations Cassette tapes Preparation:Turn the unit on. 1Press [;OPEN/CLOSE], insert the cassette with the tape facing in. Make sure the cassette is fully inserted and press [;OPEN/CLOSE] to close the deck. 2Press [DOLBY NR] to select Dolby NR on (“%NR” appears) or off. 3Press [REV MODE] to select the reverse mode. Every time the button is pressed: !: One side is played. /: Both sides are played (forward /reverse). $: Both sides are played eight times each. 4Press [w] or [q].Play begins and the indicator changes to green. q: to play the forward side (facing up). w: to play the reverse side (facing down). 5Adjust the volume. To stop the tape Press [g]. Cassette tape selection and care The unit can correctly play the following types. It identifies the type automatically. Normal position/TYPE 1✔ High position/TYPE 2✔ Metal position/TYPE 4✔ ¡Tapes exceeding 100 minutes are thin and can break or get caught in the mechanism. ¡Tape slack can get caught up in the mechanism and should be taken up before the tape is played. ¡Endless tapes can get caught up in the deck’s moving parts if used incorrectly. Use tapes appropriate to this unit’s auto-reverse mechanism. Resetting the tape counter Press [RESET]. Prerecorded cassettes and equipment marked “% ” use Dolby B NR.

B Volume and sound quality Recordings are unaffected by changes to volume and sound quality. Preparatory steps Do these steps before each recording. To temporarily stop recording Press [*REC PAUSE]. The deck goes into recording standby mode. Press the [w] or [q] button with the flashing indicator to resume recording. 35 RQT6523 Recording operations Recording discs This function makes it easier for you to record from a CD. 1 1Press [w] or [q] and then [g] to set the tape direction. q: to record on the forward side w: to record on the reverse side When you select “q”, set the reverse mode to “/”. Now, if a track is cut off at the end of the forward side, it is re-recorded on the reverse side. ¡At the end of the reverse side, recording stops and the current track will be interrupted. 2 2Turn [INPUT SELECTOR] to select DVD mode. Wait for the unit to finish reading the disc. 3 3Press [EDIT].Recording starts and “CD EDIT” scrolls across the display. After recording finishes The cassette deck automatically stops. To stop editing Press [g] on the deck or the DVD player. “EDIT OUT” is displayed and both sections stop. Editing programmed tracks Program the tracks ( asteps 1–4, page 23) before step 3. For your reference The following display appears when you adjust the volume to indicate that you have adjusted the balance to the left or right. To adjust left-right balance Press [MUTING]. Volume is reduced to minimum. To cancel Press [MUTING] again. (“MUTING OFF” lights up.) To cancel from the unit, turn [VOLUME] to minimum (- - dB), then raise it to the required level. When the unit is turned off, the muting operation will be automatically canceled. Muting the volume Reduce the volume before connection. The example shows settings for preset radio channel 3 to play between 6:30 and 7:40, at –40 dB. Preparation: Turn the unit on, set the time ( apage 14), preset radio stations if you want the timer to start playing the radio ( apage 30). 1q q Press [CLOCK/TIMER] to select “zPLAY”. zPLAY/zREC CLOCK/TIMER 40 RQT6523 Timer operations Using the timers Checking the timers Press [CLOCK/TIMER] to select “zPLAY” (or “zREC”). The timer conditions are shown in the following order: Start time /finish time /source /volume (“zPLAY” only) The timers can be checked even if the unit is off. Playing the unit after the timers are setThe unit can be used after the timers are set. Make sure the unit is off before the set start time. Turning the timers on and off The timers come on at the set time if the [zPLAY/zREC] indicator is on. Turn them on and off by pressing [zPLAY/zREC] (apages 38 and 39). If the unit is turned off while a timer is functioning, the finish time setting will not be activated. You can change the finish time for a timer while it is functioning by following the same steps for setting the timer. Note B A The play and record timers Remote control onlyThis timer turns the unit off after a set time. While playing a source Press [SLEEP] to select the time (minutes).Each time you press the button: To cancel the sleep timerPress [SLEEP] to select “SLEEP OFF”. “SLEEP” goes out. To confirm the remaining time(While the timer is functioning) Press [SLEEP]. The remaining time is shown for about five seconds.
