DA T is the only true non-compressed digital audio format that was intended to be a target writing media. The simple flexibility and worry-free operation of DA T recorders contributed to the initial rise of the format, and continues t\ o support it in all lev els of recording. The DAT sample r ates can be used, r anging from the long pla y 32kHz, to the CD standard 44.1kHz, to 48kHz for higher qualit y. T rack names are supported in tapes, just as they are in MiniDisc. Plus, the DA T tapes are reasonably inexpensive and offer up to 2 hours (4 hours in LP mode) of uninterrupted audio. Control I/O Legend 13572468 1012149111315 Track NamesThe DA-40 fully supports progr am titles, allowing each tr ack to have its own name. This information is stored in the tapes subcode, and does not af\ fect the audio qualit y or cause conflicts with other machines. The name can be spelled out with upper and lower case letters, numbers, and some basic punctuation. Two Memo Locate PointsWhen working on mix es, or even running liv e shows, a pair of memo points comes in handy . These are separ ate locate points that can be used for cueing the tape to a particular location, or they can be used for looping a par\ t for rehearsal or critical listening passes. Single PlayIf you are using the DA -40 in a live production, the single pla y function allows you to pla y the DAT one track at a time. The DA -40 will automatically stop at the next track ID, ready for the next cue. Margin CounterThis is one of those features y ou typically nev er think about until y ou dont have it. The margin counter is v ery useful when performing tr ansfers. You can walk away from the unit, and know if the lev el ever peak ed out, or if the recording could ha ve been made louder . Drum Time (Head Time) CounterFor maintenance purposes, it helps to know if it is time to clean the hea\ ds. Maintenance records can be k ept just like taking the odometer reading on car . Selectable Reference Level, Attenuation on OutputsMost professional gear operates with -20dB as the 0dB analog reference lev el, and most semi-pro gear operates at -16dB reference level. The DA-45HR offers the abilit y to properly match y our system to the gear y ou are working with. There are also attenuation pots on the balanced outputs for fine \ adjustment of these levels. The DAT recorder shall be able to record and pla y back audio DAT tapes at the standard 16 bit, 44.1kHz and 48kHz modes, as well as long pla y modes of 32kHz, 12 bit.
