30 Common Editing Methods Encoders and Sliders Encoders and sliders can be unidirectional or bidirectional. Unidirectional values, for example level values, start at a minimum value and go up to the maximum. Bidirectional controls start from the middle position and go to the left for negative and to the right fo r positive values.
