Press (Display Contents) on the control wheel, then select a desired mode. Selectable modes can be set using MENU 1 [DISP Button(Monitor)]. In shooting mode Graphic Display Shows basic shooting information. Graphically shows the shutter speed and aperture value. Display All Info. Shows recording information. No Disp. Info.Does not show recording information. LevelDisplays an indicator guide showing the angle of inclination of the camera to the left or right side. When the camera is held on a level, this indicator guide appears green. HistogramDisplays the luminance distribution graphically (histogram). This mode can be set by selecting MENU 1 [DISP Button(Monitor)] [Histogram]. 64
In playback mode Display Info.Shows recording information. HistogramDisplays the histogram and recording information. No Disp. Info. Does not show recording information. Graphic display The graphic display shows the shutter speed and the aperture value graphically in the picture, so that you can easily understand the exposure system. The shutter speed indicator bar and the aperture value indicator bar show the current values. A : Shutter speed B : Aperture value 65
Displaying histogram A histogram is a graph showing the brightness of an image. The graph display indicates a bright image when skewed to the right side (A), and a dark image when skewed to the left side (B) . 1. Select MENU 1 [DISP Button(Monitor)]. 2 . Check [Histogram], then press MENU button. 3 . Press (Display Contents) repeatedly in shooting mode to display histogram. Notes The histogram also appears when playing back a single image, but you cannot adjust the exposure. The histogram does not appear when:Recording/playing back movies Shooting in [Sweep Shooting] mode or viewing panoramic images A large difference in the histogram displayed during shooting and playback may occur when: The flash strobes. Press (Flash Mode) on the control wheel. 2 . Select the desired mode with the control wheel. (Flash Off) Flash does not operate. (Autoflash)Flash automatically operates in dark locations or when there is a backlight. (Fill - flash) Flash always operates. (Slow Sync.) Flash always operates. The shutter speed is slow in a dark place to clearly shoot background that is out of flash light. (Rear Sync.) Flash operates before exposure is completed every time you trigger the shutter. Rear Sync shooting allows you to shoot a natural image of the trail of a moving subject, such as a moving car or a walking person. When “White circular spots” appear in flash photos These spots are caused by particles (dust, pollen, etc.) floating close to the lens. When they are accentuated by the camera’s flash, they appear as white circular spots. How can the “White circular spots” be reduced? Light the room and shoot the subject without flash. Select (Anti Motion Blur) or (High Sensitivity) mode in [Scene Selection]. ([Flash Off] is automatically selected.) Notes The flash strobes twice. The first flash adjusts the light quantity. While charging the flash, flashes. After charging is completed, the flashing icon will light up. When using the flash, the flash pops up automatically. Do not cover the flash with your fingers. You cannot use the flash when [Drive Mode] is set to [Self -timer(Cont)] or [Bracket: Cont.]. When shooting with the flash and the zoom is set to W, the shadow of the lens may appear on the screen, depending on the shooting conditions. If this happens, shoot away from the subject or set the zoom to T and shoot with the flash again. Related Topic 67

Exposure Comp. You can adjust the exposure manually in 1/3 EV steps in a range of –3.0 EV to +3.0 EV. 1 . Press the / (Exposure Comp.) on the control wheel. 2 . Select the desired value using the control wheel. Adjusting the exposure for better looking images A: Overexposure (too much light) B : Correct exposure C : Underexposure (too little light) When the image shot is overexposed, adjust [Exposure Comp.] to the minus side. When the image shot is underexposed, adjust [Exposure Comp.] to the plus side. Notes If you shoot a subject in extremely bright or dark conditions, or when you use the flash, the exposure adjustment may not be effective. When the shooting mode is set to (Intelligent Auto) or (Superior Auto), you can change the settings easily and shoot images. 1 . Set the mode dial to (Intelligent Auto) or (Superior Auto). 2 . Press / (Photo Creativity) on the control wheel. 3 . Select the desired item with the control wheel. (Bkground Defocus) Adjusts the intensity of Background Defocus. (Brightness) Adjusts brightness. (Color) Adjusts color. (Vividness)Adjusts vividness. (Picture Effect)Shoots a still image with original texture according to the desired effect. 4 . Change the settings with the control wheel. You can combine some settings by repeating steps 3 and 4. To reset the changed settings to the default settings, press the / (In -Camera Guide) button. (Bkground Defocus), (Brightness), (Color) and (Vividness) are set to [AUTO], and (Picture Effect) is set to . 5 . When shooting still images: Shoot with the shutter button. When recording movies: Press the MOVIE button to start recording. Notes When you record movies in [Photo Creativity] mode, you can only select [Bkground Defocus] while recording. If you switch the camera mode to [Intelligent Auto] mode, [Superior Auto] mode or turn off the camera, the settings you changed revert to the default settings. When you set [Photo Creativity] in [Superior Auto] mode, overlaying images are disabled. You can select the [Drive Mode] also from MENU. 1 . Press / (Drive Mode) on the control wheel. 2 . Select the desired mode with the control wheel. Select detailed settings using / if the selected mode has such options. (Single Shooting) The camera shoots a single image without using the self-timer. (Cont. Shooting) The camera shoots continuous images while the shutter button is pressed. (Spd Priority Cont.) Shoots images continuously at high speed while you press and hold down the shutter button. Focus and brightness settings of the first shot are used for the following shots. (Self- timer) Sets the self-timer to a 10 -second or 2-second delay. When you press the shutter button, the self-timer lamp flashes and a beep sounds until the shutter operates. To cancel, press / again. (Self- portrait) Sets the self-timer to Self-portrait timer. When the camera detects the specified number of faces, a beep sounds, and the shutter operates 2 seconds later. (Self- timer(Cont)) The camera shoots continuous frames 10 seconds after you press the shutter button. Select the number of frames from three or five. (Bracket: Cont.)Shoots three images, each with different degrees of brightness. You can set the value of bracket deviation (steps). (WB bracket)Shoots three images, each with different degrees of brightness according to the selected settings of white balance, color temperature and color filter. You can select the value of bracket deviation (steps) from [Lo] or [Hi]. Tips for preventing blur If your hands or body move while holding the camera and pressing the shutter button, “Camera shake” occurs. Camera shake occurs frequently under low -light or slow shutter speed conditions, such as those encountered in (Night Portrait) or (Night Scene) mode. To reduce camera shake, set the self-timer to a 2-second delay and brace your arms against your 71
sides after pressing the shutter button. Notes When [Drive Mode] is set to [Self -timer(Cont)] or [Bracket: Cont.], [Flash Mode] is set to [Flash Off]. When the battery level is low, or a memory card is full, the burst stops. Automatic shooting with Self-portrait timer Point the lens at yourself so that the selected number of faces is reflected in the screen. The shutter operates automatically. Do not move your camera after the beep sounds. You can also shoot an image by pressing the shutter button during this operation. You can recall the functions when shooting images. 1 . Press the Fn (Function) button in shooting mode. 2. Select a function to be registered using the Fn (Function) button or / on the control wheel. 3. Set the desired mode or value by turning the control wheel or the Control Ring.
