    Using Optional Equipment

    In addition, when you connect the equipment that is 
    compatible with control for HDMI, communication with the

    If the equipment has a DVI jack, connect the DVI jack to the 
    HDMI IN 3 jack through a DVI - HDMI adaptor interface 
    (not supplied), and connect the equipment’s audio out jack to 
    the audio in jack in the HDMI IN 3 jacks.

     The HDMI jacks only support the following video inputs: 
    480i, 480p, 576i, 576p, 720p (50/60 Hz), 1080i (50/60 Hz), 
    1080p (50/60 Hz) and 1080/24p.
     Be sure to use only an HDMI cable that bears the HDMI 
    logo (recommended Sony HDMI cable).
     When connecting an audio system with HDMI jack, be sure 
    to also connect to the audio output jacks   to listen to the 
    sound from the TV on audio system.

     The monitor output jacks cannot support HD/DVD, HDMI 
    and PC signals source pictures, also digital audio signal for 
    sound.

    Viewing Pictures from 
    Connected Equipment
    Turn on the connected equipment, then press 
    / to display a list of connected 
    equipment. Press F/f to select the desired 
    input source, then press  .
    The highlighted item is automatically selected 
    if you do not perform any operation for two 
    seconds after pressing F/f.
    If you have set an input source to “Skip” in the 
    “Video Labels” menu (page 30), that input 
    source does not appear in the list.
    z
     To return to normal TV mode, press DIGITAL/
    ANALOG.
    To view two pictures simultaneously 
    – Twin Picture
    You can view two pictures (external input and 
    TV programme) on the screen simultaneously.
    Connect an optional equipment (page 20), and 
    make sure that images from the equipment 
    appear on the screen (page 22).
    ~
     This function is not available for a PC input.
     You cannot change the size of the pictures.
     The analogue TV video in the TV programme 
    picture will not appear while displaying Video 1, 
    Video 2 or Video 3 in the external input picture. 
    However, you can hear the analogue video’s 
    sound.
    1Press .
    2Press the number buttons or PROG +/– to 
    select the TV channel.
    To return to single picture mode
    Press RETURN.
    z
     The highlighted picture is audible. You can switch 
    the audible picture by pressing G/g.
    To view two pictures simultaneously 
    – PIP (Picture in Picture)
    You can view two pictures (PC input and TV 
    programme) on the screen simultaneously.
    Connect a PC (page 20), and make sure that 
    images from the PC appear on the screen.
    ~
     “Power Management” (page 30) is not available in 
    PIP mode.

    The picture from the connected PC is 
    displayed in full size, and the TV 
    programme is displayed in the small 
    screen.
    You can use F/f/G/g to change the 
    position of the TV programme screen.
    2Press the number buttons or PROG +/– to 
    select a TV channel.
    To return to single picture mode
    Press RETURN.

     You can switch the audible picture by selecting

    Using Optional Equipment
    Using USB Photo Viewer
    You can view photographs (in JPEG format) 
    stored in a Sony digital still camera, camcorder 
    through a USB cable or USB storage media on 
    your TV.
    1Connect a supported USB device to the 
    TV.
    2Press HOME.
    3Press G/g to select “Photo”, then press F/
    f to select “USB Photo Viewer” and press 
    .
    The thumbnail screen appears.
    4Press F/f/G/g to select the photograph or 
    folder you want to view, then press  .
    5Press RETURN to go back to thumbnail 
    screen.
    Additional operations
    Press G/f to select an option, then press  .
    ~
     USB Photo Viewer supports DCF-compliant 
    JPEG photographs only.
     When you connect a Sony digital still camera, set 
    the camera’s USB connection mode to Auto or 
    “Mass Storage”. For more information about USB 
    connection mode, refer to the instructions supplied 
    with your digital camera.
     USB Photo Viewer supports FAT32 file system 
    only.
     While the TV is accessing the data on the 
    recording media, observe the following:
    – Do not turn off the TV or connected USB 
    device.
    – Do not disconnect the USB cable.
    – Do not remove the recording media.
    The data on the recording media may be 
    damaged.
     Do not use unsupported USB device. This may 
    cause malfunctions. Sony will not be held liable for any damage to, or 
    loss of, data on the recording media due to a 
    malfunction of any connected devices or the TV.

    To display a fixed photograph 
    — Picture Frame
    You can display a fixed photograph on the 
    screen for a selected period of time. After that 
    period, the TV automatically switches itself 
    into standby mode.
    1Connect a supported USB device to the 
    TV.
    2Press HOME.
    3Press G/g to select “Photo”, then press F/
    f to select “Picture Frame” and press  .
    4Press OPTIONS, then press F/f to select 
    “Image selection” and press  .
    The thumbnail screen appears.
    5Press F/f/G/g to select the photograph 
    you want to display, then press  .
    The selected photograph is displayed on 
    the screen.
    6Press RETURN to go back to the 
    XMB™.
    Additional operations
    ~
     If the photograph is selected from a USB device, it 
    must remain connected to the TV.
     If “Sleep Timer” is activated, the TV 
    automatically will switch into standby mode.

    Using BRAVIA Sync 
    (Control for HDMI)
    The control for HDMI function enables the TV 
    to communicate with the connected equipment 
    that is compatible with the function, using 
    HDMI CEC (Consumer Electronics Control).
    For example, by connecting Sony equipment 
    that is compatible with control for HDMI 
    (with HDMI cables), you can control them 
    together.
    Be sure to connect the equipment correctly, 
    and make the necessary settings.
    Control for HDMI
     Automatically turns the connected 
    equipment off when you switch the TV to 
    standby mode using the remote.
     Automatically turns the TV on and 
    switches the input to the connected 
    equipment when the equipment starts to 
    play.
     If you turn on a connected audio system 
    while the TV is on, the sound output 
    switches from the TV speaker to the audio 
    system.
     Adjusts the volume (2 +/–) and mutes the 
    sound (%) of a connected audio system.
     You can operate the connected Sony 
    equipment that has the BRAVIA Sync logo 
    by the TV remote by pressing:
    –N/x/X/m/M to operate the connected 
    equipment directly.
    –SYNC MENU to display the menu of the connected 
    HDMI equipment on the screen. 
    After displaying the menu, you can operate the 
    menu screen by using F/f/G/g and  .
    –OPTIONS to display “Device Control”, then select 
    options from “Menu”, “Options”, and “Content 
    List” to operate the equipment.
    – Refer to the instruction manual of the equipment for 
    available control.
    To connect the equipment that is 
    compatible with control for HDMI
    Connect the compatible equipment and the TV 
    with an HDMI cable. When connecting an 
    audio system, be sure to also connect the 
    DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL) jack of 
    the TV and the audio system using an optical 
    audio cable. For details, see page 20.To make the control for HDMI settings
    The control for HDMI settings must be set on 
    both the TV side and connected equipment 
    side. See “HDMI Set-up” on page 31 for the 
    TV side settings. For settings on the connected 
    equipment, refer to the operating instructions

    Navigating through TV Home Menu on XMB™
    The XMB™ (XrossMediaBar) is a menu of BRAVIA features and input sources displayed on the 
    TV screen. The XMB™ is an easy way to select programming and adjust settings on your BRAVIA 
    TV.
    1Press HOME to display the XMB™.
    2Press G/g to select the category.
    3Press F/f to select the item, then press  .
    4Follow the instructions on the screen.
    5Press HOME to exit.

     The options you can adjust vary depending on the situation.
     Unavailable options are greyed out or not displayed.

    TV Settings Menu
    Picture
    Picture ModeSets a picture mode when displaying an input other than a PC. The options for 
    “Picture Mode” may differ depending on the “Video/Photo” setting (page 28).
    VividEnhances picture contrast and sharpness.
    StandardFor standard pictures. Recommended for home 
    entertainment.
    CinemaFor viewing film-based content. Most suitable when viewing 
    the TV in a theatre-like environment.
    PhotoSets the optimum picture quality for photographs.
    Display ModeSets a display mode when displaying a PC input.
    VideoFor video images.
    Te x tFor text, charts or tables.
    ResetResets all the “Picture” settings to the factory settings excluding “Picture Mode” 
    and “Display Mode”.
    BacklightAdjusts the brightness of the backlight.
    PictureIncreases or decreases picture contrast.
    BrightnessBrightens or darkens the picture.
    ColourIncreases or decreases colour intensity.
    HueIncreases or decreases the green tones and red tones.
    ~
     “Hue” can be adjusted only for the NTSC colour system (e.g. U.S.A. video 
    tapes).
    Colour TemperatureAdjusts the whiteness of the picture.
    CoolGives white colours a blue tint.
    NeutralGives white colours a neutral tint.
    Warm 1/Warm 2Gives white colours a red tint. “Warm 2” gives a redder tint 
    than “Warm 1”.
    z
     “Warm 1” and “Warm 2” are not available when “Picture Mode” is set to “Vivid”.
    SharpnessSharpens or softens the picture.
    Noise ReductionReduces the noise level of pictures (snowy pictures) when the broadcast signal is 
    weak.

     “Noise Reduction” is not available when “Intelligent Picture” (page 32) is set to 
    “On with Indicator” or “On” in analogue TV mode.
    High/Medium/
    LowModifies the effect of the noise reduction.
    OffTurns off the “Noise Reduction”.

    Using MENU Functions
    Advanced SettingsAllows you to set “Picture” settings in more detail. These settings are not available 
    when “Picture Mode” is set to “Vivid”.
    Adv. Contrast 
    EnhancerAutomatically adjusts “Backlight” and “Picture” to the most 
    suitable settings judging from the brightness of the screen. 
    This setting is especially effective for dark images scenes, 
    and will increase the contrast distinction of the darker picture 
    scenes.
    Live ColourMakes colours more vivid.
    Sound
    Sound ModeSets the sound mode.
    DynamicEnhances treble and bass. Recommended for home 
    entertainment.
    StandardFor standard sound.
    Clear VoiceMakes voice sound clearer.
    ResetResets all the “Sound” settings to the factory settings excluding “Dual Sound”.
    Tr e b l eAdjusts higher-pitched sounds.
    BassAdjusts lower-pitched sounds.
    BalanceEmphasises the left or right speaker.
    Intelligent VolumeKeeps volume level constant across all programmes and adverts (e.g. adverts tend 
    to be louder than programmes).
    Volume OffsetSets an independent volume level to each equipment connected to the TV.
    Surround S-FORCE Front 
    SurroundAvailable for normal stereo broadcast and 5.1ch broadcast 
    surround audio, and the audio input from connected 
    equipment.
    Simulated StereoAdds a surround-like effect to mono programmes.
    OffConverts and reproduces 5.1ch and other broadcast surround 
    audio as normal stereo audio (2ch). Reproduces the original 
    audio of other broadcasts as is.
    Voice ZoomAdjusts the clarity of human voices. For example, if the voice of a news announcer 
    is indistinct, you can turn up this setting to make the voice clearer. Conversely, if 
    you are watching a sports programme, you can turn down this setting to soften the 
    voice of the commentator.
    Sound BoosterGives sound more impact by compensating for phase effects in speakers.
    Dual SoundSets the sound from the speaker for a stereo or bilingual broadcast.
    Stereo/MonoFor stereo broadcasts.
    Main/Sub/MonoFor bilingual broadcasts, select “Main” for sound channel 1, 
    “Sub” for sound channel 2, or “Mono” for mono channel, if 
    available.
    ~
     For other equipment connected to the TV, set “Dual Sound” to “Stereo”, “Main”, 
    or “Sub”.
     When you connect an external equipment to the HDMI jack, “Dual Sound” is 
    automatically set to “Stereo” (except when using the audio in jacks).

    Features
    Quick StartThe TV turns on faster than usual within two hours after switching to standby 
    mode. However, power consumption in standby mode is higher than usual.
    Power  SavingReduces power consumption of the TV by adjusting the backlight.
    When you select “Picture Off”, the picture is switched off, and the   (Picture Off) 
    indicator on the TV front panel lights up in green. The sound remains unchanged.
    Light Sensor OnAutomatically optimises the picture settings according to the 
    ambient light in the room.
    OffTurns off the “Light Sensor” feature.
    ~
     Be sure not to put anything over the sensor, as its function may be affected. See 
    page 15 for the location of the light sensor.
    Cinema DriveProvides improved picture movement when playing DVD or VCR images taken on 
    film, reducing picture blur and graininess.
    AutoProvides smoother picture movement than the original film-
    based content. Use this setting for standard use.
    OffTurns off the “Cinema Drive”.
    ~
     If the image contains irregular signals or too much noise, “Cinema Drive” is 
    automatically turned off even if “Auto” is selected.
    Video/PhotoSets the image quality setting most suited to the input source (video or photograph 
    data).
    Video-ASets suitable image quality, depending on the input source, 
    video data or photograph data when directly connecting Sony 
    HDMI output-capable equipment that supports “Video-A” 
    mode.
    VideoProduces suitable image quality for moving pictures.
    PhotoProduces suitable image quality for still images.
    ~
     If the connected equipment does not support Video-A mode, the setting is 
    automatically set to “Video”, even if you select “Video-A”.
     “Video/Photo” is available only for HDMI or component input source (1080p and 
    1080i).
    Timer Settings Sleep TimerSets the TV to automatically switch to standby mode after a 
    certain amount of time. 
    When “Sleep Timer” is activated, the   (Timer) indicator on 
    the TV front panel lights up in orange.
    z
     When you turn off the TV and turn it on again, “Sleep 
    Timer” is reset to “Off”.
     A notification message appears on the screen one minute 
    before the TV switches to standby mode.
    On Timer 
    SettingsOn TimerSets the TV to automatically turn on from 
    standby mode.
    Timer ModeSets the desired day(s) of the week you 
    want the timer to turn on the TV.
    TimeSets the time you want the timer to turn 
    on the TV.
    DurationSets how long you want the TV to stay on

    Using MENU Functions
    Time AdjustmentWhen digital channels have been received, set this to “Auto” 
    to adjust the clock automatically. If no digital channels have 
    been received, set this to “Manual”, and adjust the clock 
    manually in “Clock Set”.
    Clock SetAllows you to adjust the clock manually.
    Set-up
    Auto Start-upYou can run the initial set-up that appeared when you first connected the TV 
    (page 6), and select the region and tune in all available channels again.
    Even if you have made the settings when you first connected the TV, you may need 
    to change the settings after moving house, or to search for newly launched 
    channels.
    RegionSets the region in which you will operate the TV.
    Screen Settings Wide ModeSee “To change the Wide Mode manually” on page 17.
    Auto WideAutomatically changes “Wide Mode” to match input signals. 
    If you want to use the setting that you specified in “Wide 
    Mode”, select “Off”.
    4:3 DefaultSelects the default Wide Mode for use with the 4:3 picture.
    Wide ZoomEnlarges the 4:3 picture to fill the 16:9 
    screen, keeping the original image as 
    much as possible.
    NormalDisplays conventional 4:3 picture in the 
    correct proportion.
    OffKeeps the current “Wide Mode” setting 
    when the channel or input is changed.
    Display AreaAdjusts the picture display area in 1080i, 1080p and 720p 
    sources when “Wide Mode” is set to “Full”.
    AutoDuring digital broadcasts, displays 
    pictures in accordance with the settings 
    recommended by the broadcast station.
    Full PixelDisplays the original picture area.
    NormalDisplays pictures in their recommended 
    size.
    Horizontal ShiftAdjusts the horizontal position of the picture.
    Vertical ShiftAdjusts the vertical position of the picture when “Wide 
    Mode” is set to “Wide Zoom”, “Zoom” or “14:9”.
    Vertical SizeAdjusts the vertical size of the picture when “Wide Mode” is 
    set to “Wide Zoom”, “Zoom” or “14:9”.
    PC Settings Wide ModeSets “Wide Mode” for displaying pictures from your PC.
    Full 1Enlarges the picture to fill the vertical 
    display area, while maintaining its 
    original proportion.
    Full 2Enlarges the picture to fill the display 
    area.
    ResetResets all PC screen settings to factory settings.

    Auto AdjustmentAutomatically adjusts the display position and phase of the 
    picture when the TV receives an input signal from the 
    connected PC.

     “Auto Adjustment” may not work well with certain input 
    signals. In such cases, manually adjust “Phase” and 
    “Horizontal Shift”.
    PhaseAdjusts the phase when the screen flickers.
    PitchAdjusts the pitch when the picture has unwanted vertical 
    stripes.
    Horizontal ShiftAdjusts the horizontal position of the picture.
    Power 
    ManagementSwitches the TV to standby mode if no signal is received for 
    30 seconds.
    AV Set-up Video LabelsAssigns a name to equipment connected to the side and rear 
    jacks. The name appears briefly on the screen when you 
    select the equipment. You can skip input sources from 
    connected equipment that you do not want displayed on the 
    screen.
    1Press F/f to select the desired input source, then press

    Equipment 
    labelsUses preset labels to assign a name to 
    connected equipment.
    Edit:Allows you to create your own label.
    Press F/f to select the desired letter or 
    number, then press g. Repeat this step 
    until you complete the name, then select

    SkipSkips unnecessary input sources.
    Speaker TV SpeakerTurns on and outputs the TV’s sound 
    from the TV speakers.
    Audio SystemTurns off the TV speakers and outputs the 
    TV’s sound from external audio 
    equipment connected to the audio output 
    jacks on the TV.
    You can also turn on the connected 
    equipment that is compatible with control 
    for HDMI, after making the appropriate 
    settings of control for HDMI.
    Audio Out VariableAllows you to use the TV’s remote to 
    control audio output from an audio 
    system connected to the TV.
    FixedThe audio output of the TV is fixed. Use 
    your audio receiver’s volume control to 
    adjust the volume (and other audio
