Other Operations 81GB CATVControlling the TV with the remote You can control the TV by using following buttons. To use these buttons (other than THEATRE and TV [/1), set the remote to the TV mode by pressing TV so that TV button lights up for 1 second. To exit the TV mode, press TV so that the TV flashes 4 times. Note• During the TV mode, if you press any of the following buttons, TV button lights up. (Depending on the manufacturer setting, some buttons may not work and TV button does not light up.) • When you press other than the following buttons during the remote is in the TV mode, TV button flashes 4 times and the remote exits the TV mode automatically. • Depending on the TV, you may not be able to control your TV or to use some of the buttons above. • The TV mode turns off when you do not operate the remote for 10 seconds. Note• To receive the Dolby Digital signal, you need to connect a TV or other components to the control unit with an optical or coaxial digital cord (pages 27, 28) and set the digital output mode of the TV or other components to Dolby Digital. Press NIGHT. “NIGHT” lights up in the front panel display and the sound effect is activated. Tip• To enjoy more effects, set [AUDIO DRC] to [STANDARD] or [MAX] (page 95). To turn off the sound effect Press NIGHT again.You can set the system to turn off at a preset time, so you can fall asleep listening to music. You can preset the time in 10 minutes decrements. Press SLEEP. Each time you press SLEEP, the minute display (the remaining time) changes in the front panel display as follows: When you set the sleep timer, “SLEEP” lights up in the front panel display. To check the remaining time Press SLEEP once. To change the remaining time Press SLEEP repeatedly to select the desired time. To operate the soft-touch buttons, touch them once and light them up. The soft-touch buttons turn off if you do not touch them for about 10 seconds. 4Press . The setting is made. 5Press SYSTEM MENU. The system menu turns off. Note• When the soft-touch buttons turn off in “SIMPLE” mode, first touch the soft-touch button area so that the soft-touch buttons light up, then operate the system with them. You can set the playback restriction by registering a password. When you set the [PARENTAL CONTROL] function to on, you need to enter the password to play restricted discs. 1Press FUNCTION repeatedly until “DVD” appears in the front panel display. 2Press DISPLAY while the system is in stop mode. To play a disc for which [PARENTAL CONTROL] is set 1Load the disc and press H. The display for entering your password appears on the TV screen. 2Enter your 4-digit password using the numeric buttons, then press . The system starts playback. Note• When you play discs which do not have the [PARENTAL CONTROL] function, playback cannot be limited on this system. • Depending on the disc, you may be asked to change the parental control level while playing the disc. In this case, enter your password, then change the level. If the Resume Play mode is canceled, the level returns to the previous level. Tip• If you forget your password, remove the disc and repeat steps 1 to 7 of “Restricting Playback of the Disc” (page 86). When you are asked to enter your password, enter “199703” using the numeric buttons, then press . The display will ask you to enter a new 4-digit password. After you enter a new 4-digit password, replace the disc in the control unit and press H. When the display for entering your password appears on the TV screen, enter your new password. 88GB D.C.A.C. (Digital Cinema Auto Calibration) can set the appropriate surround sound automatically. Note• The system outputs a loud test sound when [AUTO CALIBRATION] starts. You cannot turn the volume down. Give consideration to children and neighbours. • Make sure that the headphones are not connected to the surround amplifier. You cannot operate the following steps with the headphones connected. • Before [AUTO CALIBRATION], be sure that the surround amplifier turns on and you install the surround amplifier in the appropriate location. If you install the surround amplifier in an improper location, such as another room, proper measurement will not be obtained. 1Press FUNCTION repeatedly until “DVD” appears in the front panel display. 2Press DISPLAY while the system is in stop mode. The Control Menu display appears on the TV screen. 3Press X/x to select [SETUP], then press . The options for [SETUP] appear. 4Press X/x to select [CUSTOM], then press . The Setup Display appears. 5Press X/x to select [AUDIO SETUP], then press . The options for [AUDIO SETUP] appear. 6Press X/x to select [AUTO CALIBRATION], then press . The options for [AUTO CALIBRATION] appear. 7Connect the calibration microphone (supplied) to the ECM-AC2 jack on the rear of the control unit. Set up the calibration microphone at the ear level using the tripod, etc. (not supplied). The front of each speaker should face the calibration microphone, and there should be no obstruction between the speakers and the calibration microphone. Note• The ECM-AC2 jack is used for the supplied calibration microphone only. Do not connect other microphones. 8Press C/c to select [YES]. 9Press . [AUTO CALIBRATION] starts. During the measurement, test signals are output from the speakers. • The environment of the room in which the system is installed may affect measurements. • If an error message appears on the TV screen, follow the message, then select [YES]. An error message appears when: – the headphones are connected to the surround amplifier. – the calibration microphone is not connected. – front speakers are not correctly connected. – surround speakers are not correctly connected. – front and surround speakers are not correctly connected. – subwoofer is not connected. 10Press C/c to select [YES] or [NO], then press . xThe measurement is OK. Disconnect the calibration microphone, then select [YES]. The result is implemented. xThe measurement is not OK. Follow the message, then select [YES] to retry. Note• While the Auto Calibration function works: – do not turn off the power. – do not press any button. – do not change the volume. – do not change the function. – do not insert or eject a disc. – do not connect the headphones to the surround amplifier. – do not disconnect the calibration microphone. • When change the surround speakers from wireless connection to wired connection or vice versa, use D.C.A.C. function to adjust the sound setting. Tip• You can check the distance between the listening position and each speaker. See page 96. About error messages for the auto calibration If the following message appears during [AUTO CALIBRATION], check “Symptoms and remedies” and retry the auto calibration. If the calibration microphone is connected properly, the calibration microphone or calibration microphone cord may be damaged.
