11 Temperature unit The temperature can be displayed in degrees Fahrenheit ( °F) or degrees Celsius ( °C). Press setup button . The first menu (temperature unit) is displayed. Press the + or – setting button in order to switch between degrees Fahrenheit ( °F) and degrees Celsius ( ° C). Press the setup button , in order to store the settings. The set temperature is displayed again in the fascia. Language setting When the appliance is operated, all messages are displayed in fascia in English. Alternatively, the display languages can be selected corresponding to the table above. Press setup button . Press the selection button , until is displayed. Press the + or – setting button, until the desired language is displayed. Press the setup button , in order to store the settings. The set temperature is displayed again in the fascia. Energy saving mode If the energy saving function (eco function) is activated, the appliance switches to energy saving operation. This energy saving function is preset at the factory in order to reduce energy consumption. The background illumination of the fascia is likewise reduced. To switch the energy saving function on: Press setup button . Press the selection button , until and the current setting ( / ) is displayed. Press the + or – setting button, in order to reset the setting. Press the setup button , in order to store the settings. The word is displayed in the fascia. This function is then ended: – by switching the eco function off in the setup mode; – by activating the “Super freeze” function – by changing the target temperature of the appliance; – by switching the appliance off using the on/off button . Holiday mode If leaving the appliance for a long period of time, you can switch the appliance over to the energy-saving holiday mode. Holiday mode settings: – The appliance works in energy saving mode (see “Energy saving mode”, page 11); – The interior illumination is switched off; – the “Super freeze” function is ended (if activated). To switch the holiday mode on: 4. Press Holiday button . The symbol appears in the fascia under the eco-temperature preset at the factory. To switch the holiday mode off: Press Holiday button . The previous settings and temperature values are once again activated.
12 Sabbatical mode Sabbatical mode settings: – the “Super freeze” function is ended (if activated); – the accoustic signal is switched off when the button is actuated (if activated); – The interior illumination is switched off; – the background illumination of the fascia is switched off. To switch the sabbatical mode on: Press and hold down the “super” freezing button . Press Holiday button . Keep the “super” freezing button held down for 3 seconds longer. The symbol flashes on the display panel. The background illumination in the fascia is switched off. is displayed in the fascia. The sabbatical mode is switched on. To switch the sabbatical mode off: Press Holiday button . The previous settings and temperature values are once again activated.Freezing and storing food Purchasing deep-frozen food When purchasing deep-frozen food, comply with the following: – Check that the packaging is not damaged. – Check the sell-by date. – The temperature of the supermarket freezer should be lower than –18 ° C. If not, the storage life of the food is reduced. – Purchase deep-frozen food last. Wrap in newspaper or place in a cold bag and take home. – At home immediately place deep- frozen food in the freezer compart- ment. Use the deep-frozen food before the sell-by date runs out – Do not refreeze thawed food. Exception: If you use the food to make a ready meal (boiling or frying), you can refreeze this ready meal. Storing deep-frozen food If a lot of food is to be stored, the drawers can be taken out and food can be stacked directly in the compart- ments. Usable capacity Information concerning the effective contents can be found on the identi- fication plate. Freezing deep-frozen food Freeze fresh, undamaged food only. To prevent food from losing its flavour or drying out, wrap the food in airtight film or place in containers. In order to retain the vitamins, nutritional value, appea- rance and flavour food should be frozen as quickly as possible. Do not exceed the max. freezing capacity. How to wrap food correctly: Place the food in the wrapping. Press out all the air. Seal the wrapping. Label the wrapping with the contents and date. The following products are not suitable for wrapping food: Wrapping paper, greaseproof paper, cellophane, refuse bags and used shopping bags. The following products are suitable for wrapping food: Plastic film, polyethylene blown film, aluminium foil and freezer tins. These products can be purchased from a specialist outlet. The following products are suitable for sealing the wrapped food: rubber bands, plastic clips, string, coldresistant adhesive tape etc. bags and polyethylene blown film can be sealed with a film sealer. Storage duration of the frozen food The storage period depends on the type of produce. At a mean temperature: Thawing frozen food Depending on the type of food and intended use, frozen produce can be thawed as follows: – at room temperature – in the refrigerator – in an electric oven, with/ without hot-air fan – in the microwave Note: Do not refreeze food which is beginning to thaw or which has already thawed. The food cannot be refrozen until it has been prepared (boiled or fried). Fish, sausage, ready meals and cakes and pastries up to 6 months Cheese, poultry, meat up to 8 months Vegetables, fruit up to 12 months
13 Maximum freezing capacity In order to retain the vitamins, nutritional value, appearance and flavour food should be frozen as quickly as possible. Do not exceed the max. freezing capacity. Freeze the food as quickly as possible. Information about the max. freezing capacity within 24 hours can be found on the rating plate. The maximum freezing capacity is reached in the upper area of the freezer space. Ice maker The ice maker makes ice cubes. The ice maker starts to make ice cubes as soon as the appliance has reached the set temperature. If the ice cube container is full, the ice maker automatically switches off. In order to prevent the ice cubes from sticking together a metal endless screw rotates in the ice cube container at periodic intervals (agitation function). The ice maker can make approx. 1.3 kg ice cubes within 24 hours. Do not place bottles or food in the cube container in order to cool them quickly. The ice maker may block and be damaged. Switch on the ice maker Make sure that ice maker container is its place and locked into position. Press the ice maker button on the control panel. The symbol i s l i t o n t h e d i s p l a y panel. Important note: If the ice cube maker is used for the first time and/or a long period of not being used, do not use the ice which is produced in the first day for hygiene reasons. Throw the ice cubes away and clean the container! Switch the ice maker off Note: Before switching off the ice maker, it is most important that you switch the water supply to the appliance off for a few hours. To switch the ice maker off: Press the ice maker button on the control panel. Ice and water dispenser Remove where necessary: – cooled water – ice cubes –crushed ice Warning! – – Note: – The ice and water dispenser only works when the appliance is connected to the water mains. – To avoid splashes bring recep- tacles as close as possible to the discharge opening when removing water and ice. When switching on your new appliance, observe the following: When the appliance has been connec- ted, there are still air bubbles in the lines. Run off drinking water and pour away until water can be dispensed without bubbles. Throw away the first 10–15 glasses of water. Drinking water quality All materials used in the drinks dispenser are odourless and tasteless. If the water has an aftertaste, this may be caused by: – Mineral and chlorine content of the drinking water. – Material of the domestic water line or connection line. – Inadequate freshness of the drinking water (if water has not been dispensed for a long time, the water may have a “stale” taste. In this case dispense approx. 15 glasses of water and pour away). The water filter fitted into the appliance only filters particles from the supplied water, not bacteria or microbes. Ice and water dispenser control panel The buttons on the control panel are illuminated. Request water button. Ice cube request button. Crushed ice request button. For switching the agitation function on and off. Lock button for the ice and water maker control panel (childproof lock). For switching the perma- nent light function on and off.
14 Dispensing water Place a suitable receptacle under the discharge opening. Press the request water button. Dispensing ends, when the button is released. Tip: The water from the water dispenser is cooled to a palatable temperature. If you would like the water colder, place ice cubes in the glass before dispensing the water. Dispensing ice Caution! Place a suitable receptacle under the discharge opening. Press the request ice cubes button. Dispensing ends, when the button is released. or Press crushed ice request button. Dispensing ends, when the button is released. Note: Release the ice dispensing button, when the receptacle is filled approx half- way. Ice in the discharge may cause the receptacle to overflow or block the discharge. Detachable rest Detach the rest in order to place larger receptacles below the discharge opening. Remove and clean the water capture bowl Overflow water collects in the water capture bowl and has to be regularly removed. Detach the rest. Remove the sieve and pull out the water capture bowl. Empty the water capture bowl and replace it. Insert the sieve tip the rest back up again. Removing and cleaning the ice cube container If ice cubes have not been dispensed for a prolonged period, they will shrink, have a stale taste and stick together.
15 Lift the front ice cube container and pull it out. Caution! A full ice cube container is heavy! Pull out the container, empty and clean with lukewarm water. Thoroughly rub the container and endless screw transportation mechanism (Agitation function) dry so that new ice cubes cannot freeze to them. Push the ice cube container all the way back onto the supports until it locks into position. If the container cannot be pushed all the way back, twist the screw conveyor in the container. Ice cube production continues. Locking the ice and water dispenser In order to secure the ice and water dispenser against unintentional use activate the childproof lock. Keep the lock button on the ice and water dispenser control panel pressed for 3 seconds. It is not possible to actuate buttons on the ice and water dispenser. For resetting operation of the buttons: Keep the lock button on the ice and water dispenser control panel pressed for 3 seconds. How to save energy – Install the appliance in a cool, well ventilated room, but not in direct sunlight and not near a heat source (radiator, cooker, etc.). If required, use an insulating plate. – Allow warm food and drinks to cool down before placing in the appliance! – Thaw frozen food by placing it in the refrigerator. The low tempera- ture of the frozen food will then cool the food in the refrigerator compartment. – Open the appliance door as briefly as possible. Operating noises Normal operating noises Humming – refrigerating unit is running. The fan in the circulating air system is running. Bubbling, gurgling or whirring noises — refrigerant is flowing through the tubing. Clicking — motor is switching on or off. Noises which can be easily rectified The appliance is not level Allign the appliance with the aid of a spirit level. Use the height-adjustable feet or place something under the feet. Drawers, baskets or storage areas are loose or sticking Please check the removable parts and, if required, reinsert them. Receptacles are touching each other Please move bottles or receptacles away from each other. Thawing the appliance The appliance starts to defrost automatically. Switching off and disconnecting the appliance Switching off the appliance Press the on/off button . Disconnecting the appliance If the appliance is not used for a prolonged period: Take all food out of the appliance. Pull out the mains plug or switch off the fuse. Empty the ice cube holder (see “Ice maker”, page 13). Clean the appliance interior (see “Cleaning the appliance”, page16). To prevent odours, leave the doors open.
16 Cleaning the appliance Press the on/off button and switch the appliance off! Pull out the mains plug or switch off the fuse. Clean the appliance with lukewarm water and a little washing-up liquid. Water used for cleaning must not drip onto the fascia or light. Clean the door seal with water only and then dry thoroughly. Remove dirt on the ventilation and air release openings using a vacuum cleaner. Clean the surface of the appliance using a damp cloth. Afterwards, rub dry. After cleaning: Insert the plug and/or switch the fuse on. Press the on/off button and switch the appliance on! Warning – NEVER use a steam cleaner to clean the appliance! – Water used for cleaning must not drip onto the fascia or light. – Do not use abrasive or acidic cleaning agents and solvents. – Never clean the shelves or containers in the dishwasher. The parts may warp.Odours If you experience unpleasant odours: Press the on/off button and switch the appliance off! Take all food out of the appliance. Clean the interior. See section “Cleaning the appliance”, page 16. Clean all packing units located in the appliance. Seal strong smelling food in order to avoid odours from forming. Press the on/off button and switch the appliance on! Store food in the appliance. Check whether the formation of odours is still occuring after 24 hous. Change the odour filter. Warning messages via the display If several warning notices appear at once, see to each warning in turn. As long as a warning is displayed, no buttons can be pressed. 6. Door alarm Cause One door of the appliance has not been closed correctly or has been open too long. Remedial action Press the alarm button . Close the door. The display goes out. Sensor failure Cause A technical defect on the appliance is possible. Remedial action Conduct a self-test on the appliance. Low voltage Cause The mains voltage falls below the permitted limiting value. Remedial action No button actuations are possible. When the mains voltage reaches the stipulated value again, the warning message goes out. If the warning message lasts for longer, inform the energy supply company.
17 Appliance self-test Before you call customer service, conduct a self-test on the appliance. Switch off the appliance and wait 5 minutes. Keep the door closed during this time. Switching on the appliance. At the same time, press the setup button and the alarm button for 5 seconds. The self-test programme starts. Various messages appear in the facia one after the other. If an error is established during the appliance self-test, the symbol appears in the fascia and an error message (e.g. B. =sensor error) is displayed. Inform the customer service of these error messages. If no error is established during the appliance self-test, the preset tempera- ture appears in the fascia after the test has ended.Water filter Risk of severe illness and death! A filter cartridge for filtering particles can be obtained from customer service or a GAGGENAU specialist dealer. Exchange this filter at least every 6 months. 7. Important information concerning the water filter After use, the water system is subject to low pressure. Be careful when removing the filter! Rinse the water system through if the appliance has not been used for a long period, or if the water tastes or smells unpleasant. In addition to this, draw water from the water dispenser for several minutes. If the unpleasant taste or smell persists exchange the filter. Exchanging the filter cartridge Turn the filter cap on the base of the appliance by 90 —180° anti- clockwise and remove the filter cartridge. Take a new filter cartridge from the packet and remove the protective cap. Take the filter cap off of the used filter cartridge and place it onto the fresh filter cartridge. With the filter cap in a horizontal position, feed the filter cartridge into the opening on the appliance base as far as it will go. Turn the filter cartridge 90–180° in a clockwise direction. Draw a few litres of water from the water dispenser. Doing this removes air from the water system. Pour water out of the used filter cartridge. The filter cartridge can be disposed of in the household rubbish.

19 Eliminating minor faults yourself Before you call customer service: Please check whether you can eliminate the fault yourself based on the following information. Customer service will charge you for advice — even if the appliance is still under guarantee! Appliance Ice maker/Ice and water dispenser Fault Possible cause: Remedial action Appliance has no refrigerating capacity. Interior light does not function. The display does not illuminate. The refrigerating unit is switching on more frequently and for longer. Power failure; the fuse has been switched off; the mains plug has not been inserted properly. Check whether the power is on. The appliance must be switched on. Check whether the mains plug is secure. Appliance door opened frequently. Do not open the door unnecessarily. Large amounts of fresh food have been put away. Activate the “Super freeze” f unction. The ventilation openings have been covered. Remove obstructions and dirt. The temperature in the freezer space is too cold. Temperature has been set too low. Select a warmer temperature (see “Setting the temperature”, page 8) Interior light does not function. The bulb is defective. Replace bulb (see “Changing light bulbs”, page 22). Light switch is sticking. Check whether it can be moved. You experience unpleasant odours. Strongly smelling food is not sealed. Cleaning the appliance. Seal strongly smelling food (see “Odours”, page 16). Fault Possible cause: Remedial action No water can be drawn, ice is however given out.Fault with the appliance. It is necessary to inform customer service! Ice maker/Ice and water dispenser does not work. Ice maker is not connected to the mains supply. Call customer service. Childproof lock is activated. Swich off the childproof lock. Ice maker does not contain any fresh water. Ensure that the water is properly connect ed. If it is, call the customer service. The freezer space temperature is too high. Check the freezer space temperature. Reduce it where necessary. No water or ice is given out at the dispenser. Childproof lock is activated. Deactivate the lock. Water tank fills itself up. When first used, it takes approx. 2 minutes until the tank is filled. The appliance or ice maker has only just been switched on. Approx. 24 hours is needed until ice production starts. A lot of ice has been taken. Approx. 24 hours is needed until the ice cube container is filled again. The water filter is bunged up or used. Change the water filter

The water pressure must be between 1.72 bar and 8.25 bar so that the appliance works properly. The water filter is bunged up or used. Change the water filter. The ice maker does not make any ice. The ice maker is switched off. Switch the ice maker on at the control panel. The appliance is not supplied with water. Contact the installer or the wate r supply company. Water supply has kinks. Turn off the water supply at the shut-off tap. Smoothen out the kinks, exchange where necessary. Low water pressure. The water pressure must be between 1.72 bar and 8.25 bar so that the appliance works properly. Temperature in the freezer space is too high. Temperature in the freezer space should lie between –17 and –18 °C, adjust where necessary. Ice cube container is not properly inserted. Check the position, re-insert where necessary . Incorrect shut-off tap installed. Incorrect taps can cause low water pressur e and damage to the appliance. Condensation forms on the discharge unit of the dispenser. The ice maker is switched off. The condensation heating is deactivated. To switch the condensation heating on: – Switch on the ice maker. – Press the lock button and the agitation button simultaneously and keep pressed for 3 seconds. The water button and ice cube button flash twice. The ice maker is switched off, but the condensation heating function keeps working. To switch the condensation heating off: – Press the lock button and the agitation button simultaneously and keep pressed for 3 seconds. The water button and ice cube button flash once. Filter exchange message appears in the display. Water filter cartridge must be exchanged. Exchange filter cartridge. If no new filter is available, insert bypass cap. After exchanging the filter the filter exchange display is not reset. Reset filter exchange display. The illumination on the dispenser unit does not work. The bulb is defective. Replace bulb (see “Changing light bulbs”, page 22). The permanent light function is deactivated. Press the light button in order to sw itch the permanent light function on. Ice forms in the inflow hose to the ice maker. Low water pressure. The water pressure must be between 1.72 bar and 8.25 bar so that the appliance works properly. Shut off tap incorrectly opened. Open shut off tap fully. Temperature in the freezer space is too high. Temperature in the freezer space should lie between –17 and –18 °C, adjust where necessary.
