    							BASIC IhETHODS FOR CORRECT EXPOSURE
    l. The Comero Position Method:
    This is o simple ond quick method of using your meter ond usuolly used for most outdoor generol scenes.
    Hold the meter oiming
    toword the scene from
    the comero position.
    Point the meter down
    slightly to ovoid reod-

    ues ond couse under-
    exposure. Set the or-

    							2. The Close-Up Method:
    This method should be used for portroits or
    ony scene where there is but one obiect of
    interest ond the bockground is of no im-
    porronce.
    In generol, the meter reoding should be token
    obout six inches from the subiect, but in no
    cose should the meter be held forther owoy
    thon the subiects smollest dimension.
    Set the normol orrow on the- exposure con-
    trol diol to this reoding ond select ony com-
    binotion of {/stop ond shutter speed opposite
    eoch other.
    When the meter reoding is token from o
    persons foce set the  2  position on the diol
    to the reoding insteod of normol orrow.
    Select the comero settings in the usuol mon-
    ner. lf the shodow of the meter or your
    hond is cost on the subiect be sure not to in-
    clude it in the reoding. 
    						
    							3. The Brightness Ronge Method:
    This is the most occurote method for deter-mining the correct exposure of scenes consist-ing of o wide ronge of bright ond dork lightvo lues.
    Toke two close-up reodings, one for the dork-est obiect ond one for the brightest. lncolor photogrophy, block ond white ore notconsidered colors ond should not be meosur-ed. Set the normol orrow midwoy betweenthe two volues meosured. This will give onoveroge exposure.
    For exomple, ossume the dorkest obiect reodsI I (A) ond the brightest l5 (B). The normolorrow is set midwoy between (A) ond (B) ot13.

    4. Substitute Reodings:
    lf your subiect is inoccessible for o close-up
    reodings, substitute reodings of neorby similor
    obiects in the some light.
    Neorby trees tor trees in the scene, rocks for
    rocks, etc.
    For this reoding, incident light method is
    more convenieni.
    5. Extreme Low Light Reodings:
    lf the needle does not move even ofter thereoding ronge hos been switched over toLOW, set the ASA scole to 115 the ASAnumber for your film ond then ploce o whitepoper on the surfoce of the subiect. Next,
    meosure this ot o distonce of 4 to 6 inches
    from the subiect, using the reflected light
    meosuring method.
    Exomple: In cose of ASA 400 film, set theASA index ot 80 ond toke reoo-ing from white poper.

    							6. Copying:
    Arronge two floodlights ot o 45o ongle to
    the work to be copied, so thot the light
    from eoch folls evenly on the subiect to be
    photogrophed. Then cover the surfoce with o
    piece of wihte cordboord of opproximotely
    the some size. Point the meter downword,
    directly ot the subiect, obout 6 inches from
    it. Move the meter over the entire oreo to
    be photogrophed, wotching for needle de-
    flection. Re-orronge your lights until the
    needle stoys in one position os the meter
    scons the subiect.
    Toke o close-up reoding on the white cord-
    boord, using the reflected light meosuring
    method. And divide the film exposure index
    by 5 (refer to the porogroph  Extreme Low
    Light Reodings).
