The sound coming out of the speakers does not reach the listener at the same time; the tim- ing varies depending on the location of the speakers. Front Speakers Although, ideally, it should be at the same height as the front speakers, you can also place it on or below the TV set. Center Speaker Place the speakers behind the listener at a certain distance away so that they are placed 60 – 90cm higher than the listener’s ears and face downwards. If you do not have enough space in the room and have to sit with your back close to the wall, place the left and right rear speakers so that they face each other. Rear Speakers The subwoofer speaker does not require special attention in its placement. Place the speaker anywhere you like. English-47 OPERATION Changing the STEREO Settings If you live in an area that has poor reception (due to weak frequency), you may hear noise and experience poor sound quality during the channel selection. Set the stereo setting to Off to eliminate the noise. Select Off and set the MTS setting to Mono. •If the sound quality is poor while you are watching a program broadcast in stereo, press the MTS button and select “Mono.” •You cannot use the bilingual function while you are watching a program in mono. •If you set the stereo setting to Off and change the channel, the setting remains Mono regardless of the properties of the signals sent from the broadcaster. •Press the MTS button to switch between Mono and Stereo. Selecting the Main or Sub Sound You can select either Main or Sub when PIP is On. 1 Press the MENUbutton to display the menu. English-50 OPERATION Adjusting the Headphone Sound The headphone option is especially useful when simultaneously watching the main screen and the PIP window. 1 Press the MENUbutton to display the menu. Press the DOWN button to select “Sound”, then press the ENTERbutton 2 Press the DOWN button to select “Headphone” and press the ENTERbutton. Note : Headphones must be purchased separately. 3 Press the UP/DOWN buttons to select the particular item to be changed. Press the LEFT/RIGHT buttons to increase or decrease the value of a particular item. English-51 OPERATION Setting the Clock Setting the clock is necessary in order to use the various timer features of the TV. Also, you can check the time while watching the TV. (Just press DISPLAY.) 1 Press the MENUbutton to display the on- screen menu. Press the DOWN button three times to select “Setup”, then press the ENTER button. 3 Press theRIGHTbutton. Press theUP/DOWNbuttons repeatedly until the correct time appears. After the hour is entered, press the ENTERbutton. 2 Press the DOWN button to select “Clock” and press the ENTERbutton. English-52 OPERATION Setting the On/Off Timer 1 Press the MENUbutton to display the on- screen menu. Press the DOWN button three times to select “Setup”, then press the ENTER button. Before using the timer, you must set the TV’s clock. (See “Setting the Clock” on page 51) 2 Press the DOWN button to select “Clock” and press the ENTERbutton. 3 Press the DOWN button to select “On time”, then press the ENTERbutton. Press the UP/DOWNbuttons repeatedly to select the appropriate time (i.e., the hour when the TV will turn on). When you set the hours, make sure the correct time of day (am or pm) appears to the right of the hour. 4 Press the ENTER button to select the “On time” minutes. English-53 OPERATION 5 Press the ENTER button to select “On/Off”. Press the UP/DOWN buttons to on-timer “On”.(Repeatedly pressing the UP/DOWN buttons will alternate between on and off.) When finished, press the ENTERbutton. To deactivate the “On time,” select “Off” during this step. 6 To set the Off time, press the DOWN button to select “Off time”. Press the ENTER button and set the hours and minutes. (Follow the same procedure as in steps 1~5 above.) 7 When finished setting the timer, press the MENU button to exit. •What is Absent Power Off? When you set the timer on, your television will be turned off if you do not operate any controls during 3 hours after you turn on the TV. This Absent power off function is available in only Timer on situation. This function will prevent the leakage accident or dissipation caused by the occation that your TV will be left in turned on situation for a long time due to Timer on.
