Settings111 Making payments with the NFC feature Before you can use the NFC feature to make payments, you must register for the mobile payment service. To register or get more information about the service, contact your service provider.1 On the S ettings screen, tap Connections > NFC and then tap the NFC switch to activate it. 2 T ouch the NFC antenna area at the top of the Gear’s touchscreen to the NFC card reader. • To set the default payment app, open the settings screen and tap Connections > NFC > Tap and pay, and then select an app. The payment services list may not include all available payment apps.
Settings112 Airplane Mode Airplane mode disconnects your device from all networks and turns off connectivity features, such as phone calls and Wi-Fi. XOn the S ettings screen, tap Connections > Airplane mode to enable or disable this option. Data Usage Set the Gear to monitor your mobile data usage. XOn the S ettings screen, tap Connections > Data usage. • Mobile data: Enable mobile data. • Da ta usage limit: Your mobile data connection will be turned off when the specified time limit is reached. • Da ta usage cycle: Choose a time period for data usage. • S tart date: Select a date to start viewing the data usage. • Da ta usage: View your data usage.
Settings113 Location Some apps may require location services to be turned on for full functionality.1 On the S ettings screen, tap Connections > Location. 2 Tap Location again to enable, and select a mode. • GPS & Wireless networks: Use GPS and wireless networks. • W ireless networks: Use wireless networks only. • GPS : Use GPS only. Screen lock Set the Gear to use the screen lock feature when you are not wearing it. XOn the S ettings screen, tap Screen lock. • Screen lock: Activate or deactivate the screen lock feature. • Help : View help information for using the screen lock feature.
Settings114 Accessibility Accessibility services are special features that make using the device easier for those with certain physical disabilities. Vision XOn the Settings screen, tap Accessibility > Vision and select a mode. • Screen reader: This feature uses TalkBack, which reads aloud the names of items you tap. You can also rotate the bezel to hear the names of items on screen, such as apps on the Apps screen. • Dark scr een: Keep the screen turned off at all times. • Z oom: Magnify the screen. • G rayscale: Change all colors to gray. • Nega tive colors: Reverse the display of colors from white text on a black background to black text on a white background. Hearing XOn the Settings screen, tap Accessibility > Hearing and select a mode. • Turn off all sounds: For privacy turn off all notifications and audio. • M ono audio: Switch audio from stereo to mono for use with one earphone.
Settings115 Add shortcut Press and hold the Home key for accessibility settings. XOn the S ettings screen, tap Accessibility > Add shortcut and follow the prompts to set your shortcut. Direct Access Triple tap the screen with two fingers for the screen reader. XOn the S ettings screen, tap Accessibility > Direct access to enable. Input Default keyboard Select a default keyboard type for text input. XOn the S ettings screen, tap Input > Default keyboard.

XOn the S ettings screen, tap Input > Keyboard settings > Samsung keyboard. • Select input languages: Select languages for text input. • C heck update: Set the Gear to check for and download the latest version of the Samsung keyboard. • Smar t typing: –P redictive text: Activate predictive text mode to predict English words based on your input and display word suggestions. –A uto replace: Set the Gear to correct misspelled and incomplete words by tapping the space bar. –A uto capitalize: Set the Gear to automatically capitalize the first character after a final punctuation mark, such as a period, question mark, or exclamation mark. – A uto spacing: Set the Gear to automatically insert a space between words. –A uto punctuate: Set the Gear to insert a period when you double-tap the space bar. • K ey-tap feedback: –S ound: Set the Gear to make sounds when you tap a key. –V ibration: Set the Gear to vibrate when you tap a key. • R eset settings: Reset the Samsung keyboard settings.
Settings117 Power saving Activate power saving mode to save battery power by limiting the Gear’s functions. •Displays colors on the screen as gray tones. •D eactivates features, excluding phone, messages, and notifications. •D eactivates the Wi-Fi feature. •Limits the per formance of the Gear’s CPU. 1 On the Settings screen, tap Power saving > OK or press the Power key and tap Power saving > OK. 2 T ap OFF > OK to deactivate this mode.
Settings118 Gear info View the Gear’s information. XOn the S ettings screen, tap Gear info. • About device: Access information about the Gear. • R eport diagnostic and usage info: Set the Gear to automatically send the device’s diagnostic information. • R eset Gear: –Ligh t reset: Delete data except media files and personal data. –F actory reset: Reset settings to the factory default values and delete all data. • Debugg ing: Activate or deactivate USB debugging mode when developing apps for the Gear.
119 Samsung Gear App Introduction To connect your Gear to a smartphone, you must install the Samsung Gear app on your smartphone. Using the Samsung Gear app, you can customize your Gear’s settings. XT ap Samsung Gear on the Apps screen of the smartphone. • I f it is the first time connecting your Gear and smartphone, refer to Connecting a new Gear for more information. Some features may not be available depending on the type of connected smartphone.
Samsung Gear App120 Connecting a new Gear If you are currently using another Gear, you can disconnect it from the smartphone and connect a new one.1 On the A pps screen of the smartphone, tap Samsung Gear. 2 T ap MORE > Connect new Gear and then select a new Gear. Disconnecting the Gear 1 On the Apps screen of the smartphone, tap Samsung Gear. 2 T ap MORE > Disconnect. The Gear disconnects from your smartphone. • T ap MORE > Connect to reconnect the Gear.
