173 SettingsLocation Some apps, such as Google maps, may require one or more location services be turned on for full functionality. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Location. 2. Tap ON/OFF to turn on Location services. E 9 11 This is a view only field. You cannot turn off E911 Location on any cell phone. E911 Location service is standard on all mobile phones to allow sharing of your GPS location with emergency personnel when you make a call to emergency services (such as 911) . This setting is not configurable. Locating Method 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Location. 2. Tap ON/OFF to turn on Location services. 3. Tap Locating method to select how your location is determined: • High accuracy: Use GPS, Wi-Fi, and mobile networks. • Power saving : Use Wi-Fi and mobile networks (no GPS) . • GPS only: Use GPS only. Location
174 Settings Location Recent Location Requests Apps that have requested your location are listed under Recent location requests. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Location. 2. Tap ON/OFF to turn on Location services. 3. Tap an entry under Recent location requests to view the app’s settings. Location Services Google uses Location Reporting to store and use your device’s most recent location data. Google apps, such as Google Maps, can use this data to improve your search results based on places that you have visited. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Location. 2. Tap ON/OFF to turn on Location services. 3. Tap Google Location History, and sign in to your Google Account for more options.
175 SettingsLock Screen and Security Lock Screen and Security Secure your device and protect your data with Lock Screen and Security settings. Set a Screen Lock 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. Tap Lock screen and security > Screen lock type to select a screen lock and level of security: • Swipe: Swipe the screen to unlock it. This option provides no security. • Pattern: A screen unlock pattern is a tap gesture you create and use to unlock your device. This option provides medium security. • PIN : Select a PIN to use for unlocking the screen. This option provides medium to high security. • Password: Create a password for unlocking the screen. This option provides high security. • Fingerprints: Use fingerprint recognition to unlock the screen. This option provides medium to high security. • None: Never use a Lock screen. 3. If choosing a secured lock screen option, select your notification settings: • Show content • Hide content • Do not show notifications

Choose a screen lock option: • Show information: Show the dual clock, or information such as the weather information, on the lock screen. • Notifications: Display notifications on the lock screen. • Unlock effect: Set the visual effect used when unlocking the screen. (This option is available with Swipe only.) • Secure lock settings: Set your secure lock functions such as Auto lock, Lock instantly with Power key, and Smart lock. Note : Options vary based on the screen lock type. Fingerprints Use fingerprint recognition as an alternative to entering passwords in certain apps. You can also use your fingerprint to verify your identity when logging in to your Samsung account. Note: Fingerprint recognition uses the unique characteristics of each fingerprint to enhance the security of your device. The likelihood of the fingerprint sensor confusing even small areas of two different fingerprints is very low. But in rare cases, the sensor may recognize a fingerprint that is similar to a registered fingerprint.
177 Settings Lock Screen and Security Register a Fingerprint You can register up to three fingerprints. A password will also be set up as an alternative to your fingerprint. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings. 2. Tap Lock screen and security > Fingerprints. • To add a fingerprint, tap Add fingerprint and follow the instructions to register a fingerprint and password. • To rename a fingerprint, touch and hold the fingerprint, and then tap RENAME. • To delete a fingerprint, touch and hold the fingerprint, and then tap REMOVE. Change Backup Password You can change the backup password for your fingerprint. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. Tap Lock screen and security > Fingerprints. 3. Tap Change backup password and enter a new password.
178 Settings Lock Screen and Security Fingerprint Verification Fingerprint verification can be used for other accounts accessed from your phone. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings. 2. Tap Lock screen and security > Fingerprints. • Verify Samsung account: Verify your identity using your fingerprint when logging in to your Samsung account. Unknown Sources Enable installation of non-Google Play applications. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings. 2. Tap Lock screen and security > Unknown sources to enable this option. Warning: Enabling installation of third-party applications can cause your device and personal data to be more vulnerable to attacks by unknown sources.
179 Settings Lock Screen and Security Other Security Settings Encrypt Your Data Require a numeric PIN or password to decrypt your device each time you power it on. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings. 2. Tap Lock screen and security > Other security settings > Encrypt phone and follow the prompts to encrypt all data on your device. SIM Card Lock Require both your SIM card PIN and your ordinary screen lock type when unlocking the device. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings. 2. Tap Lock screen and security > Other security settings > Set up SIM card lock and follow the prompts. 3. Tap Lock SIM card to turn the feature on. 4. Tap Change SIM card PIN to create a new PIN. View Passwords Display password characters briefly as you type them. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings. 2. Tap Lock screen and security > Other security settings > Make passwords visible to turn the feature on.
180 Settings Lock Screen and Security Security Update Service Automatically receive security updates. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings. 2. Tap Lock screen and security > Other security settings for the following Security update service options: • Security policy updates: Automatically or manually check for security policy updates. • Send security reports: Send security reports to Samsung via Wi-Fi for threat analysis. Phone Administration Manage your device administrators and application installation privileges. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings. 2. Tap Lock screen and security > Other security Settings > Phone administrators. 3. Tap an option to set the phone administrators.
181 Settings Lock Screen and Security Credential Storage Manage your security certificates. If a certificate authority (CA) certificate gets compromised or for some other reason you do not trust it, you can disable or remove it. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings. 2. Tap Lock screen and security > Other security settings for the following Credential storage options: • Storage type: Select a storage location for credential contents. • View security certificates: Display certificates in your device’s ROM and other certificates you have installed. • Install from device storage: Install a new certificate from storage. • Clear credentials: Erase the credential contents from the device and reset the password. Advanced Security Settings Use these options to configure advanced security settings. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings. 2. Tap Lock screen and security > Other security settings for the following advanced options: • Trust agents: Perform selected actions when trusted devices are connected. To view Trust agents, set up a screen lock (PIN, Password, Fingerprint, or Pattern) . For more information, see “Set a Screen Lock” on page 175 . • Pin windows: Pin an app on your device screen, preventing access to other features of you phone. • Usage data access: View the applications that can access your device’s usage history. • Notification access: View the applications that can access notifications you receive on your phone.
182 SettingsPrivacy and Safety Privacy and Safety Choose from various modes designed to hide personal content from being accessed by anyone else using your device, or to aid you in an emergency. Private Mode Hide personal content from being accessed by anyone else using your device. Private mode is only available for certain applications. Note : A secure screen lock (Pattern, PIN, Password, or Fingerprint) is required to use Private mode. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings. 2. Tap Privacy and safety > Private mode. 3. Follow the prompts to learn about and set up Private mode. Emergency Mode Change the Home screen to a black theme to reduce battery consumption. You will be able to use Messages, Contacts, and make emergency calls, but some other apps and functions will be restricted. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings. 2. Tap Privacy and safety > Emergency mode, and then tap ON/OFF to enable this feature.
