E Ð 21 This section descr ibes how to select a computer or video sour ce and how to adjust the pictur e and sound. Gener al Contr ols Before y ou tur n on y our UP-800 Da ta Projector, ensure that the computer or video source is turned on and that your lens cap is removed. 1. Tur n On The Da ta Projector T he main po wer s witc h is on the bac k panel of the UP-800 Da ta Projector . By turning this s witch on, the projector will g o into its standb y mode and the po wer light will glo w amber. Onl y after you press the On b utton on the remote control or projector ca binet will the po wer light tur n to green and the pr ojector become r eady to use. NOTE : To turn the Data projector on and off with just the back panel switch, use the menu and enable the auto start feature. (See page E-25. ) 2. Select T he Computer Or Video Source Press the Video (VCR, document camer a, or laser disc player), S-video, or RGB (computer) b utton on the remote control to display the ima ge. Or pr ess the Men u button on the ca binet and use the icons to select y our video source: Video, S-Video, or RGB. 3. Adjust The Image Siz e Use the manual zoom contr ol knob on the pr ojector cabinet to mak e the image larg er or smaller . 4. F ocus Use the man ual focus contr ol ring projector ca binet to focus the ima ge. 5. Tur ning Of f The Pr ojector Fir st press the off button on the r emote control or the projector cabinet. The pow er light will glow amber. Then turn of f the main power switch on the bac k panel. The power light will go out. IMPORTANT: ¥ The Data projector should be unplugged if it will not to be used for an extended period. ¥ T o tur n off the ima ge br iefly (f ive min utes or less), use the Pictur e Mute button instead of tur ning the pr ojector off and on. ¥ The Data projector will display a black, blue, or loop image if no input signal is present. ¥ Do not tur n the Data projector of f and then immedia tely back on. The pr ojector needs to cool f or a minute before it can be restarted. 3OPERA TION
E Ð 22 Using The Menus 1. Press the Men u button on the r emote control or projector ca binet to displa y the Main Men u. 2. Pr ess the Select b utton on the projector cabinet or (s) ( t) b uttons on y our remote contr ol to highlight the men u for the item y ou want to adjust. 3. Pr ess the Enter b utton on the projector cabinet or the Left Clic k button on the r emote control to select a submen u or item. 4. Adjust the le vel or turn the selected item on or of f by using the Adjust (+) or (Ð) b uttons on the remote control or cabinet. The on-scr een gaug e will show you the amount of incr ease or decrease. [The (+) b utton is on and (Ð) is of f.] 5. The c hange is stor ed until you adjust it a gain. 6. Repea t ste ps 2-5 to adjust an ad ditional item, or press Right Clic k on your remote control to quit the men u displa y. VIDEO RGB AUTOPICTURE ON RGB AUTOPICTURE OFF
E Ð 23 Enables you to select a video sour ce such as a VCR, laser disk pla yer, computer or document camer a depending on what is connected to your inputs. Press the Select button on the projector cabinet or ( s ) ( t) buttons on your remote control to highlight the menu for the item you want to adjust. Video Selects what is connected to your Video input-VCR, laser disk player or document camera. S-Video Selects what is connected to your S-Video input-VCR, or laser disk player. RGB Selects wha t is connected to y our RGB input Ña computer . Use the Adjust (+) or (Ð) b uttons to select a standar d* or one of six** custom settings y ou can create. Press the Enter b utton on the cabinet or the Left Click button on the remote control to save your selection. NOTE: * Standard is normally used and it can be user changed and automatically recalled. ** ÓCustom 6Ó is read only. This feature is useful when an S-VGA image (800 ´600) is displayed with a notebook computer supported by XGA (1024 ´768). Menu Descriptions & Functions Source Menu
E Ð 24 Provides access to contr ols for your image and sound. Use the ÒSelectÓ b utton on the projector cabi- net or ( s) (t) buttons on your remote contr ol to highlight the menu for the item y ou want to adjust. T he v olume, brightness, contrast, color , tint, shar pness and Ima ge Mode contr ols are availab le for Video or S-Video sources. The volume, brightness, contrast, horizontal position, vertical position and auto picture controls are available for RGB source. Volume Use the ÒAdjustÓ (+) or (Ð) buttons to adjust the volume. Brightness Use the ÒAdjustÓ (+) or (Ð) buttons to adjust the brightness. Contrast Use the ÒAdjustÓ (+) or (Ð) buttons to adjust the contrast. Color* Use the ÒAdjustÓ (+) or (Ð) buttons to adjust the color. Tint* Use the ÒAdjustÓ (+) or (Ð) buttons to adjust the tint. Sharpness* Use the ÒAdjustÓ (+) or (Ð) buttons to adjust the sharpness. Image Mode* Use the ÒAdjustÓ (+) or (Ð) buttons to choose ÒNormalÓ for a regular picture ÒNaturalÓ for true color reproduction, or ÒDocument CameraÓ for a document camera or other low APL picture. E Ð 25 Power Menu Horizontal Position** Use the ÒAdjustÓ (+) button to move the image right; (Ð) to move it left. Ver tical Position** Use the ÒAdjustÓ (+) button to move the image up; (Ð) to move it down. A uto Picture** Use the ÒAdjustÓ (+) button to tur n this feature on so ÒPictureÓ and ÒFine PictureÓ adjustments are made automatically . Use the ÒAdjustÓ (Ð) button to tur n this feature of f so you can mak e ÒPicture and Fine PictureÓ adjustments manually. Picture Adjustment** (when A UTO PICTURE is off) Use this icon with the ÒFine Picture AdjustmentÓ to fine tune the computer image or to remove any ver tical banding tha t might appear. This function adjusts the c lock fr equencies tha t eliminate the horiz ontal banding in the ima ge. Press the ÒAdjustÓ (+) and (Ð) buttons until the banding disa ppears. This adjustment ma y be necessary when you connect y our computer for the f irst time. This adjust- ment is made automatically when the Auto Picture is turned on. Fine Picture** (when A UTO PICTURE is off) Use this icon to adjust the clock phase or to reduce video noise, dot interference or cross talk. (This is evident when part of your image appears to be shimmering.) Use the ÒAdjustÓ (+) and (Ð) buttons to adjust the ima ge. Use the F ine Adjustment onl y after the Pictur e Adjustment is complete . This adjustment is made automatically when the Auto Picture is turned on. NOTE: * Color, Tint, Sharpness and Image Mode controls will not work with an RGB source. The Tint control will not work with a PAL or SECAM source. ** Horizontal and Vertical position controls, and Picture, Fine Picture and Auto Picture adjustments will not work with a Video or S-Video source. Provides access to Lamp Usa ge inf orma tion and the Auto Star t and Power Mana gement f eatures. Use the ÒSelectÓ b utton on the pr ojector cabinet or (s) ( t) b uttons on y our remote contr ol to access a submenu. Then press ÒAdjustÓ (+) or (Ð) to choose a specific option. Lamp Usage This tells you ho w long the lamp has been in oper ation. It is recommended that you replace a lamp after 1000 hour s of service. After y ou install a ne w lamp, select this icon and pr ess and hold the ÒPower OnÓ button on the remote control for ten seconds to reset the lamp clock back to zero. NOTE: The projector will turn off and be in standing by after 1100 hours of service. If this happens, press the Power Off button on the remote control for ten seconds to reset the lamp clock back to zero. Do this only after replacing the lamp. Auto Star t Turns the Data projector on automatically w hen the main power switch is turned on. This eliminates the need to al ways use the ÒPowerÓ button on the r emote control or projector ca binet. Press (+) to tur n this feature on and (Ð) to turn it off. Power Management When ÒPow er OffÓ is on and ther e is no RGB input f or five min utes or mor e, the pr ojector will automatically tur n itself off. Press the (+) to tur n this feature on and (Ð) to tur n it off. This feature does not work with Video or S-Video sources.
E Ð 26 Settings MenuEnables you to set preferences and other operating options. Use the ÒSelectÓ button on the projector cabinet or ( s) (t) buttons on your remote control to access the submenu you want. Custom Memor y T his ena bles y ou to sa ve y our cur rent settings f or an RGB sour ce in one of five memor ies, Custom 1- 5. ÒCustom 6Ó is read only. This featur e is useful when an S-VGA image (800 ´600) is displa yed with a notebook computer supported by XGA (1024 ´768). To change the STANDARD settings, proceed as follows: 1. Connect your computer to the UP-800. 2. Select the ST ANDARD in RGB sour ce. 3. Adjust the hor izontal/vertical position, Pictur e, and F ine picture adjustments. 4. Select the Custom Memory icon. 5. Pr ess the Adjust (+) or (Ð) b uttons to choose a memor y location, then pr ess Enter on the ca binet or the Left Clic k on your remote control to save the ne w settings. If y ou do not w ant to change the ST ANDARD settings, fir st select the Custom Memor y icon, then do the same as step5. Projection This reorients your image for your type of projection. Press the ÒAdjustÓ (+) or (Ð) button until it is corr ect. Pr ess ÒENTERÓ on the cabinet or the ÒLeft ClickÓ on y our remote contr ol to save y our change. T he options ar e: fr ont f loor pr ojection, rear ceiling pr ojection, rear f loor pr ojection, and front ceiling projection. Language Use the ÒAdjustÓ (+) or (Ð) to c hoose one of six langua ges f or on-scr een instructions. Pr ess ÒENTERÓ on the ca binet or the ÒLeft ClickÓ on y our remote contr ol to save y our c hange. T he options ar e: English, German, French, Italian, Spanish and Swedish. Reset Chang es all adjustments to the f actory preset le vels f or eac h sour ce indi vidually. T o activate, you m ust hold do wn the ÒAdjustÓ (+) button on the ca binet or remote contr ol for a t least tw o seconds. The adjustments that will be reset are horizontal and vertical control, picture and fine picture adjustment (for the current source only), brightness, contrast, color, tint, and sharpness.
E Ð 27 This section describes the simple maintenance procedures you should follo w to replace the lamp, clean and r eplace the ba tteries in the remote control. Replacing The Lamp After your lamp has been operating for 1000 hours or longer, the ÒstatusÓ light in the cabinet will go on. Even though the lamp may still be working, replace it at 1000 hours to maintain optimal pro- jector performance. CAUTION ¥ DO NOT TOUCH THE LAMP immedia tely after it has been used . It will be e xtremely hot. Allow a t least one hour for the lamp to cool before handling. ¥ DO NO T REMO VE ANY SCREWS e xcept the lamp co ver set scr ew and tw o lamp case scr ews. You could r eceive an electric shock. ¥ Tur n off the main po wer to the pr ojector and disconnect the power cord. Allow a t least one hour for the lamp to cool. ¥ The pr ojector will tur n off and be in standing b y after 1100 hours of service. If this happens, be sure to replace the lamp. Lamp replacement procedure Prepara tions Car efully turning the pr ojector main unit upside do wn in suc h a way tha t it does not g et scratched mak es it easier to replace the lamp. After the lamp has been r eplaced, retur n the pr ojector main unit to the normal position. 1. Switch off the main power and unplug the power cord. 2. Turn the main unit so that the bottom is up. 3. Remove the lamp housing fastening screws. 4. Slide the lamp cover in the direction of the arrow and remove it. CAUTION: Do not use a lamp other than the PLUS replacement lamp. Order this from your PLUS dealer using your projectors model number. 5. Remove the three screws for the lamp housing. Request This projector has a switch for safety. 6. Holding the handle , pull the lamp housing f orward and take it of f. 7. Install the new lamp housing and fasten with the three screws. 8. Fasten the three screws for the lamp housing. 9. Install the lamp cover back in its original position and f asten with the fastening screw. 10. Reset the lamp time. Select the lamp usa ge time men u, then pr ess the ON b utton on the remote controller and hold it down for at least ten seconds. NOTE: If resetting the lamp clock back to zero after 1100 hours of service, press the Power Off (not Power On) button on the remote control for ten seconds . NOTE: When the lamp usage time reaches 1100 hours, it becomes impos- sible to switch on the power and menus are not displayed. In such a case, press the remote control OFF button for at least 10 seconds in the standby state. It is possible to confirm whether there has been reset or not by checking whether the STATUS indicator is extinguished. Obtain a replace- ment lamp at the store of purchase for this unit. When ordering a replacement lamp, specify the UP-800 special replacement lamp - model name UP-800L (Product code 28-861). E Ð 28 Remote Control Battery Installation 1. Press firmly and slide the ba tter y cover off. 2. Remove all two old ba tter ies and install new ones (AA). Ensur e that you have the batter ies polarity (+/Ð) aligned cor rectly. 3. Slip the co ver back over the batter ies until it snaps into place. Remote control effective range
E Ð 29 This section helps y ou r esolve problems you ma y encounter while setting up or using y our UP-800 Data Projector. Status Light Messages Condition OFF On Continually Blinking Ver y Rapidly (On and of f in a cycle of 1 sec.) Blinking Rapidly (On and of f in a cycle of 4 sec .) Blinking Slowly (On and off in a cycle of 8 sec.) Blinking Very Slowly (On and off in a cycle of 12 sec.) Status Normal The projector lamp has exceeded 1000 hours of operation and should be replaced. ¥ The lamp housing is not correctly installed. Install it correctly. ¥ T he temper ature protector has been tr iggered. If the r oom temper ature is high, mov e the pr ojector to a cool loca tion. If the temperature within the pr ojector is high, check the cooling fan ventilation hole and the ventilation hole on the bottom of the pr ojector. If any of the holes ar e blocked, remove whatev er is blocking them. ¥ The temperature pr otector has been triggered. If you switc h the main P ower switch Off, then immedia tely switc h it On a gain, sometimes the po wer does not come on. If this happens, wait one minute, then switch the power On again. ¥ T he lamp lighting v oltage error detection pr otector has been tr iggered. Wait at least one min ute then try switc hing on a gain. If this does not solv e the problem, please contact the store of purchase. The cooling fan has stopped. Contact your PLUS dealer for service. The lamp is not turned on. ¥ The projector was turned off and back on too quickly. Turn off the projector, wait one minute, then turn the projector back on. Or the lamp is burnt. 5T roubleshooting
E Ð 30 Common Problems & Solutions Problem Does not turn on No picture Image isnÕt square to the screen Picture is blurred Image is scrollingvertically, horizontally or both Remote contr ol does not work Status indicator is lit or blinking Cross color in RGB mode Check These Items ¥ Check that the cord is plugged in and that the power switch on the back panel is on. ¥ Check the status light to see if the projector has overheated or the lamp usage exceeds 1100 hours. ¥ Use the menu icons to select your source (Video, S-Video, or RGB). (See page E-23.) ¥ Ensure your cables are connected properly. ¥ Adjust the brightness and contrast. ¥ Remove the lens cap. ¥ Is the STNDBY indicator blinking? ¥ Reposition the projector to improve its angle to the screen. ¥ Adjust the f ocus. (See pa ge E-7 or E-11.) ¥ Re position the pr ojector to impr ove its angle to the scr een. ¥ Ensure tha t the distance betw een the projector and screen is within the adjustment rang e of the lens. ¥ Select the source you want to input. ¥ Install ne w batteries. (See pa ge E-28.) ¥ Make sure there ar e no obstacles between y ou and the projector. ¥ Stand within 13 feet (4m) of the projector. See the Sta tus Light messa ge chart on page E-29. If ÒA uto Pictur eÓ is off, tur n it on. If ÒAuto Pictur eÓ is on, turn it of f and balance the imag e with the Pictur e Adjustment icon and F ine Picture Adjustment icon.
