19 Listen to music 1 Dock your iPod or iPhone (see ‘Dock your iPod or iPhone’ on page 999). 2 Press DOCK for iPod on the home theater remote control. » The pla ylists are displayed on the TV. 3 Press the Navigation buttons and OK to select and play tracks. Watch video or view slideshows Note •On iPod, enable the T V ON set ting. •On iPhone, select the T V Out option. 1 Dock your iPod or iPhone (see ‘Dock your iPod or iPhone’ on page 999). 2 Switch the T V to the AV/ V I D E O source (corresponding to the yellow composite cable). » The TV screen goes blank. 3 Browse on the iPod or iPhone screen to select videos or photos. 4 Press (Play ) to play the video and photos. » The picture is displa yed on the TV. Use Philips EasyLink The home theater suppor ts Philips EasyLink, which uses the HDMI CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) protocol. EasyLink- compliant devices that are connected through HDMI connectors can be controlled by a single remote control. Note •Philips does not guarantee 10 0% interoperability with all HDMI CEC devices. 1 Switch on the HDMI CEC operations on the T V and other connected devices. See the manual of the T V or other devices for details. 2 Press (Home ). Play audio from TV or other devices Press SOURCE / AUDIO SOURCE repeatedly to select the audio output of the connected device. Play from an MP3 player Connect and play audio files from an MP3 player or other exter nal audio devices. 1 Connect the MP3 player to the home theater as described in the Quick star t guide. 2 Press SOURCE / AUDIO SOURCE repeatedly until ‘ MP3 LINK’ appears on the display panel. 3 Press the but tons on the MP3 player to select and play audio files. Play from an iPod or iPhone By connecting and installing a Philips Dock for iPod/iPhone, you can use the home theater to play music, movies and photos from your iPod or iPhone. Note •You can charge your iPod/iPhone on the dock while the home theater is in iPod mode. Dock your iPod or iPhone 1 Move the slide at the bot tom of the dock to ‘ STANDARD ’, then connect the dock to the home theater. 2 Connect the yellow composite cable from the dock to the T V. 3 Switch on the iPod or iPhone and place it in the dock. 4 On the home theater remote control, press (Home ), then select [browse iPod] and press OK . 20 5 Change settings This section helps you to change the settings of your home theater. Caution •Most of the set tings are already configured w ith the best value for the home theater. Unless you have a specific reason to change a s et ting, it is best to leave it at the default value. Access the setup menu 1 Press ( Home ). 2 Select [Setup], then press OK . »The setup men u appears. 3 Select a setup menu, then press OK . See the following sections for information about how to change the set tings of your home theater. 4 Press BACK to return to the previous menu, or press to exit. Note •You cannot change a set ting that is grayed out. Change video settings 1 Press ( Home ). 2 Select [Setup], then press OK . 3 Select [ Video], then press OK . 4 Select and adjust the following set tings: • [TV Display]: Selects a picture display format to fit the T V screen. • [HDMI Video]: Selects the HDMI video resolution. • [HDMI Deep Color]: Displays colors with more shades and hues when the video content is recorded in Deep Color and the T V suppor ts this feature. 3 Select [Setup], then press OK . 4 Select [EasyLink] > [EasyLink] , then press OK . 5 Select [On], then press OK . 6 You can now enjoy the following Philips EasyLink controls. One-touch play When you play a disc, the T V automatically switches to the correct channel. One-touch standby When you press and hold (Standby ) on the remote control, the home theater and all the connected HDMI CEC devices (if they suppor t one-touch standby) switch to standby mode simultaneously. System Audio Control When you play a device that has its audio output routed to the home theater, the home theater switches to the corresponding audio source automatically. To use one-touch audio, enable this feature and follow the instructions on the T V to map the connected devices correctly to the audio input jacks of the home theater. Audio Input Mapping Updates audio input mapping if there are new devices connected. EN
21 5 Press OK to confirm your choice. Note •For set tings related to HDMI, the T V must be connected through HDMI. •Night mode is available for Dolby encoded DVD and Blu-ray discs (for models suppor t Blu-ray playback). Set up surround sound automatically When you set up the home theater for the first time , the setup menu prompts you to calibrate your speakers for the best surround sound. If you move your speakers or change the layout of the room, calibrate the speakers again to continue getting the best sound. Before you star t, make sure that the calibration microphone is less than 5m from each of the speakers. If it is more, set up your sound manually (see ‘Set up surround sound manually’ on page 22). 1 Connect your speakers and subwoofer as described in the Quick Star t. For the best surround sound, turn your rear speakers to face your listening position. 2 Connect the calibration microphone to the MP3 LINK connector on your home theater and place it in your usual listening place, at ear height. • [Component Video] : Selects the component video resolution. Copy- protected DVDs can display only 480p/576p or 480i/576i. • [Blu-ray 3D video] : Selects the 3-dimensional video output when you play a 3D video on your home theater. The home theater must be connected to a 3D T V through HDMI. • [Picture Settings] : Selects a predefined c olor setting. 5 Press OK to confirm your choice. Note •The best set ting is automatically selected for the T V. If you change the set ting, ensure that the T V suppor ts the new set ting. •For set tings related to HDMI, the T V must be connected through HDMI. •For set tings related to progressive or component video, the T V must be connected through Component Video. Change audio settings 1 Press (Home ). 2 Select [Setup], then press OK . 3 Select [Audio], then press OK . 4 Select and adjust the following set tings: • [Night Mode]: Selects quiet or full dynamic sound. Night mode decreases the volume of loud sounds and increases the volume of sof t sounds such as speech. • [HDM I Audio] : Selects HDMI audio format or disables HDMI audio output for the T V. • [360Sound Setup] : Calibrates the speakers to 360 degrees SOUND SET TINGS when a calibration microphone is connected to the home theater. • [Speaker Setup] : Sets the volume level and distance of each speaker to obtain the best possible surround sound based on your room setup. 22 • [View Network Settings] : Displays the current network set tings. • [View Wireless Settings] : Displays the current Wi-Fi set tings. • [Net TV User Location] : Selects the location for accessing Net T V content and ser vices. • [Clear Net TV Memory] : Clears Net T V memor y, delete the temporar y downloaded files (e.g., cookies) of the N et T V browser. 5 Press OK to confirm your choice. Set up EasyLink 1 Press (Home ). 2 Select [Setup], then press OK . 3 Select [EasyLink] , then press OK . 4 Select and adjust the following set tings: • [EasyLink] : Enables or disables EasyLink. • [One Touch Play] : Enables or disables One Touch Play. If enabled, you can use the remote control to star t disc play in the home theater and the T V switches automatically to the correct channel. • [One Touch Standby] : Enables or disables One Touch Standby. If enabled, the home theater can be switched off to standby by a remote control from the T V or other connected HDMI CEC devices. • [System Audio Control] : Enables or disables System audio control. If enabled, follow the instructions on the T V to map the connected devices correctly to the audio connectors of the home theater. The home theater switches automatically to the audio source of the connected device. • [Audio Input Mapping] : Updates audio input mapping if there are new devices connected. 5 Press OK to confirm your choice. Note •The connected devices must be connected through HDMI and switched on. 3 Make sure that there is nothing between the speakers and the microphone to block the sound, and make sure that the room is quiet. For example, switch off your T V or radio, close doors and windows, and switch off the air conditioning. Don’t put the microphone on top of speaker. 4 Press (Home ) on your home theater remote control, and select [Setup] > [Audio] > [360Sound Setup] . 5 Follow the onscreen instructions to set up the sound. » Dur ing the calibration, you hear a series of test tones from the speakers and the subwoofer. These sounds are normal - don’t change the volume or move the speakers, and be sure to keep quiet until the calibration finishes. 6 Af ter the auto calibration, disconnect the calibration microphone. Set up surround sound manually Your home theater has a calibration microphone that allows you to calibrate your speakers automatically. If your speakers are more than 5m (16 feet) away from the calibration microphone, you can still get the best surround sound by setting them up manually. 1 Connect your speakers and subwoofer as described in the Quick Star t. For the best surround sound, turn your rear speakers to face your listening position. 2 Press (Home ) on your home theater remote control, and select [Setup] > [Audio] > [Speaker Setup] . 3 Enter the distance for each speaker, and then listen to the test tones and adjust the volume. Set up network 1 Press (Home ). 2 Select [Setup], then press OK . 3 Select [Network], then press OK . 4 Select and adjust the following set tings: • [Network Installation] : Star ts wired (Ethernet) or wireless setup. Follow the instructions to set up the network connection. EN
23 • [Sleep Timer] : Sets a sleep timer to switch the home theater to standby af ter a specific time. 5 Press OK to confirm your choice. Note •If your preferred disc language is not available, you can select [Other] from the list and enter the 4-digit language code which can be found at the back of this manual. •If you select a language that is not available on a disc, the home theater uses the default language of the disc. Change advanced settings 1 Press ( Home ). 2 Select [Setup], then press OK . 3 Select [Advanced] , then press OK . 4 Select and adjust the following set tings: • [BD-Live Security] : Restricts or allows access to BD-Live. • [Enhanced Audio] : Enables or disables the audio post processing at the speaker output. • [Software Update] : Selects to update sof tware from the network or from USB storage device. • [Clear memory] : Clears local memor y, delete the BD-Live files that you previously d ownloaded. If using an USB storage device, the local storage folder is ‘BUDA’. • [Di vX® VOD Code] : Displays the DivX VOD registration code for the home theater. • [Version Info.] : Displays the sof tware version for the home theater. • [Restore default settings] : Resets the home theater to the default set tings programmed at the factor y. 5 Press OK to confirm your choice. Note •You cannot restrict internet access on commercial Blu-ray discs. •Before you purchase DivX videos and play them on the home theater, register the home theater on w w w.div x.com using the DivX VOD code. •You cannot reset parental control set ting to its default value. Multiview On Philips 21:9 Cinema TV (model 58PFL9955H/12), you can watch two video sources side by side. The sources can be: • video from your home theater, • TV broadcasts, and • N e t T V. For information about how to set up multi-view, see your TV user manual. Change preference settings 1 Press ( Home ). 2 Select [Setup], then press OK . 3 Select [Preference] , then press OK . 4 Select and adjust the following set tings: • [Menu language] : Selects the on-screen display menu language. • [Audio] : Selects audio language for video. • [Subtitle] : Selects subtitle language for video. • [Disc Menu] : Selects menu language for video disc. • [Parental Control] : Restricts access to discs that are recorded with ratings. To play all discs irrespective of the rating, select level ‘8’. • [Screen Saver] : Enables or disables screen saver mode. If enabled, the screen enters idle mode af ter 10 minutes of inactivity (for example, in pause or stop mode). • [Auto Subtitle Shift] : Enables or disables shift subtitle. If enabled, it adjusts the subtitle position automatically to fit the T V screen. • [Change Password] : Sets or changes a PIN code to play a restricted disc. Enter ‘ 0000’ if you do not have a PIN or if you have forgot ten your PIN. • [Display Panel] : Changes the brightness of the display panel. • [Auto St andby] : Enables or disables auto standby. If enabled, the home theater switches to standby af ter 30 minutes of inactivity (for example, in pause or stop mode). • [VCD PBC] : Displays or skips the content menu for VCD and SVCD discs. 24 Update software from a USB 1 Check for the latest sof tware version on www.philips.com/suppor t. • Search for your model and click on ‘software and drivers’. 2 Create a folder named ‘UPG’ in the root director y of your USB storage device. 3 Download the sof tware into the ‘\UPG’ folder of the USB storage device. 4 Unzip the sof tware in the ‘\UPG’ folder. 5 Connect the USB storage device to the home theater. 6 Press (Home ) and select [Setup] . 7 Select [Advanced] > [Software Update] > [USB] . 8 Follow the instructions on the T V to confirm the update. »When complete , the home theater automatically switches off and restar ts. • If not, disconnect the power cord for a few seconds and then reconnect it. Caution •Do not turn off the power or remove the USB storage device when the sof tware update is in progress because you might damage the home theater. 6 Update softwa re To check for new updates, compare the current software version of your home theater with the latest software version (if available) on the Philips web site. Check software version 1 Press (Home ). 2 Select [Setup], then press OK . 3 Select [Advanced] > [Version Info.] , then press OK . »The software v ersion is displayed. Update software from the network 1 Prepare the internet connection (see ‘Connect to a computer network and the Internet’ on page 10). 2 Press (Home ) and select [Setup] . 3 Select [Advanced] > [Software Update] > [Network] . »If an upgr ade media is detected, you are prompted to star t or cancel the update. 4 Follow the instruction on the T V to confirm t he update. » When complete , the home theater automatically switches off and restar ts. • If not, disconnect the power cord for a few seconds and then reconnect it. Note •If the home theater is unable to connect to the Philips ser ver, press ( Home ), select [Setup] > [Network] > [Network Installation] to set up the network. EN

The electronic user manual is compressed into a *.zip archive. 5 If the *.zip file at the Philips Suppor t website i s a later version than the file in your home t heater, download the file in the root d irector y of your USB storage device. 6 Unzip the downloaded file in the root director y of the USB storage device. »A file named ‘ HTSxxxxeDFU.zip’ is extracted in the ‘\UPG’ folder of your USB storage device, ‘xxxx’ being the model number of your home theater. 7 Disconnect the USB storage device from the PC , and connect it to the home theater. 8 Press (Home ). • Ensure that there is no disc inside the disc compar tment of your home theater and it is closed. 9 Press [3], [3] , [8] on the remote control. » Software update star ts. 27 Sound No sound. •En sure that the audio cables are connected and select the correct input source (for example, SOURCE / AUDIO SOURCE ) for the device you want to play. No sound on HDMI connection. • Y ou might not hear any sound if the connected device is not HDCP (High- bandwidth Digital Content Protection) compliant or only DVI compatible. Use an analog or digital audio connection. • E nsure that the [HDM I Audio] is enabled. No sound from TV program. • Con nect an audio cable from the audio input on the home theater to the audio output on the T V, then press SOURCE / AUDIO SOURCE repeatedly to select the correct audio source. Distorted sound or echo. • E nsure that the T V volume is muted or set to minimum if you are playing audio through the home theater. Audio and video are not synchronized. • 1 ) Press SOUND SETTINGS / ( Sound OPTIONS ) . 2) Press the Navigation buttons (left/right) repeatedly until AUDIO SYNC is displayed, then press OK . 3) Press the Navigation buttons (up/down) to sync the audio with the video. Cannot calibrate the speakers by using the calibration microphone. • E nsure that the speakers, subwoofer, and calibration microphone are connected as described in the Quick Star t. • T r y a different position for the speakers, and then calibrate the speakers again. • E nsure that you follow all the steps for auto calibration (see ‘Set up surround sound automatically’ on page 21). • I f you cannot calibrate the speakers automatically, or are unhappy with the automatic set tings, set up the speakers manually (see ‘Set up surround sound manually’ on page 22). Play Disc cannot be played. • C lean the disc. •En sure that the home theater suppor ts the disc (see ‘Product specifications’ on page 25). 8 Troubleshooting Warning •Risk of electric shock . Never remove the casing of the product. To keep the warranty valid, never tr y to repair the product yourself. If you have problems using this product, check the following points before you request ser vice. If you still have a problem, register your product and get suppor t at www.philips.com/welcome. If you contact Philips, you will be asked for the model and serial number of your product. The model number and serial number are on the back or bottom of your product. Picture No picture. • E nsure that the T V is switched to the correct source for the home theater. No picture on HDMI connection. • C hange the HDMI video set ting or wait for 15 seconds for auto recover. • C heck if the HDMI cable is faulty. Replace with a new HDMI cable. No picture on the Component (Y Pb Pr) connection. • I f the HDMI video connection is set to [Auto] or [10 8 0 p/24Hz] , there is no video output through the component connection. Change the HDMI video set ting or remove the HDMI connection. No high-definition video signal on the TV. • E nsure that the disc contains high-definition v ideo. •E nsure that the T V suppor ts high-definition v ideo. English EN
28 Cannot see pictures from my iPod/iPhone on the TV. •C onnect a yellow composite cable from the dock to the T V. • S witch the T V to the AV/ V I D E O source (corresponding to the yellow composite cable). • P ress P L AY on the iPod or iPhone to star t the slideshow. The audio is interrupted when I play music from my iPod or iPhone in the docking station. • E nsure that you have installed the latest firmware on your iPod or iPhone. For more i nformation, refer to the suppor t website of your iPod or iPhone. My 3D video plays in 2D mode. • E nsure that your home theater is connected to your 3D T V through HDMI. • E nsure that your disc is a Blu-ray 3D disc. •E nsure that the [Blu-ray 3D video] set ting is turned on (see ‘Change video set tings’ on page 20). I see black video on my TV screen. • E nsure that your home theater is connected to the T V through HDMI. • S witch to the correct HDMI source on your T V. I cannot download the video from the online video store. • E nsure that your home theater is connected to the T V through HDMI. • E nsure that the SD card is in place and formatted. • E nsure that the SD memor y card has enough memor y to download the video, and is of type SDHC Class 6. • E nsure that you have paid for the video and are within the rental period. • Che ck the network connection (see ‘Connect to a computer network and the Internet’ on page 10). • Con tact the online video store for more help. Network Wireless network not found or distorted. • E nsure that the wireless network is not disturbed by the microwave ovens, dect phones or other Wi-Fi devices in your neighbourhood. • T r y the wired network installation if the wireless network does not work properly (see ‘Set up network ’ on page 999). • E nsure that the home theater suppor ts the region code of the disc. • F or DVD±RW or DVD±R , ensure that the disc is finalized. DivX video files cannot be pla yed. • E nsure that the DivX file is encoded a ccording to the ‘Home Theater Profile’ w ith the DivX encoder. • E nsure that the DivX video file is complete. DivX subtitles do not display correctly. • E nsure that the subtitle file name is the s ame as the movie file name. • S elect the correct character set: 1) Press OPTIONS / (OPTIONS ). 2) Select [Character Set] . 3) Select the suppor ted character set. 4) Press OK . The contents of a USB storage device cannot be read. • E nsure that the format of the USB storage device is compatible with the home theater (see ‘Product specifications’ on page 25). •E nsure that the USB storage device is format ted with a file system that is s uppor ted by the home theater. ‘No entry’ or ‘x’ sign appears on the TV. • T he operation is not possible. EasyLink feature does not work. • E nsure that the home theater is connected to a Philips brand EasyLink T V and that EasyLink is on. I do not want my home theater to be switched on when I switch on my TV. • T his is the correct behavior for Philips EasyLink (HDMI-CEC). To make the home theater work independently, switch off EasyLink. I cannot access BD-Live features. • Che ck the network connection (see ‘Connect to a computer network and the Internet’ on page 10) or ensure that the network has been set up (see ‘Set up network ’ on page 10). • C lear memor y storage. (see ‘Change advanced set tings’ on page 23) • E nsure that the Blu-ray disc suppor ts BD- Live feature. The video (movies, photos, video clips, etc.) contents of the iPod/iPhone do not display on TV. • V ideo and photo browsing is not suppor ted, you can only browse the video and photo contents on the iPod/iPhone itself.
