Context Sensitive menu The Context Sensitive menu is Enabled by default. If Enable Context Menu has been checked in the Options>Preferences pane, then the menu will be visible. The Context Menu has four entries: Smar tControl Premium - When selected the • About Screen is displayed. Select Preset - Provides a hierarchical menu • of saved presets for immediate use. A check mark shows the currently selected preset. Facoty Preset can also be called from the drop down menu. Tune Display - Opens the Smar tControl • Premium control panel. Smar tImage - Check current settings, Office, • Photo, Movie, Game, Economy, Off.
20 Task Tray Menu Enabled The task tray menu can be displayed by right- clicking on the Smar tControl Premium icon from the task tray. Left Click will launch the application. The task tray has five entries: Help - Access to User Manual file: Open User • Manual file using the default browser window. Technical Suppor t - displays the tech suppor t • page. Check for Update - takes the user to PDI • Landing and checks the users version against the most current available. About - Displays detailed reference • information: product version, release information, and product name. Exit - Close Smar tControl Premium • To run Smar tControl Premium again either • select Smar tControl Premium from Program menu, double-click the desktop PC icon or restar t the system. Task Tray Menu Disabled When the Task Tray is disabled in the preference folder, only the EXIT selection is available. To completely remove Smar tControl Premium from the task tray, disable Run at Star tup in Options>Preferences.
21 3.6 SmartDesktop Guide SmartDesktop Smar tDesktop is in Smar tControl Premium. Install Smar tControl Premium and select Smar tDesktop from Options. • Align to par tition check box will enable automatic alignment for the window when dragged into the defined par tition. • Select the desired par tition by clicking on the icon. The par tition will be applied to the desktop and the icon will be highlighted. • Identify provides a quick way to view the grid. Drag and Drop Windows Once the par titions are configured and Align to par tition is selected a window can be dragged into the region and it will automatically align. When the window and mouse cursor are within the region, the region will become highlighted. Note If the outline of the region is not visible when dragging the window, “Show windows contents while dragging” is disabled. To enable: 1. In Control Panel, click System. 2. Click Advanced system settings (For Vista & Win7 OS, this is located on the left sidebar) 3. In Performance section, click Settings. 4. In the box, check Show window contents while dragging, and click OK. Other alternative path: Vista Control Panel > Personalization > Window Color and Appearance > Click Open Classic appearance proper ties for more color options > Click Effects button > check Show window contents while dragging XP: Display Proper ties>Appearance>Effects...> check Show window contents while dragging Win 7: No other alternative path available.
22 Title Bar Options Desktop par tition can be accessed from the title bar of the active window. This provides a quick and easy way to manage the desktop as well as sending any window to any par tition without having to drag and drop. Move the cursor into the active window’s title bar to access the drop down menu. Right Click Menu Right click on the Desktop Par tition icon to view the drop down menu. 1. Find Windows – In some cases, the user may have sent multiple windows to the same par tition. Find Window will show all open windows and move the selected window to the forefront. 2. Desktop Partition – Desktop Par tition shows the current selected par tition and allows the user to quickly change to any of the par titions shown in the drop down. Note If more than one display is attached, the user can select the targeted display to change the par tition. The highlighted icon represents the current active par tition. 3. Identify Partition – Displays the outline grid on the desktop for the current par tition. 4. Align On/Align Off – Enables/disables the drag and drop auto align feature. 5. Exit – Closes Desktop Par tition and Display Tune. To re-initialize, launch Display Tune from the star t menu or shor t cut on the desktop.

26Custom settings If you prefer to be in a position outside the perimeters listed above, choose a higher strength signal for optimal detection efficiency: The higher the setting, the stronger the detection signal. For maximum PowerSensor efficiency and proper detection, please position yourself directly in front of your monitor. If you choose to position yourself more than • 100 cm or 40 inches from the monitor use the maximum detection signal for distances up to 120cm or 47 inches. (setting 4) Since some dark colored clothing tends to • absorb infrared signals even when the user is within 100 cm or 40 inches of the display, step up signal strength when wearing black or other dark garb. You can return to the default mode at any • time (setting 3) How to adjust settings If PowerSensor is not operating correctly inside or outside the default range, here’s how to fine-tune detection: Press the PowerSensor hot key • You will find the default position ‘3’ on the • adjustment bar. Adjust the PowerSensor detection adjustment • to Setting 4 and press OK. Test the new setup to see if PowerSensor • properly detects you in your current position. Note A manually selected PowerSensor mode will remain operational unless and until it is readjusted or the default mode is recalled. If you find that the PowerSensor is excessively sensitive to nearby motion for some reason, please adjust to a lower signal strength. 3.7 PowerSensor PowerSensor is a unique environmentally friendly technology from Philips which enables user to save up to 80% of power consumption. In line with Philip’s Sense and Simplicity drive, this user friendly technology works for you right out of the box without any hardware or software installation, and without any user inter vention in the default mode. How does it work? PowerSensor works on principle of • transmission and reception of harmless “infrared” signals in order to detect user- presence. When the user is in front of the monitor • the monitor operates normally, at the predetermined settings that the user has set- i.e. Brightness, contrast, color, etc Assuming that the monitor was set to 100% • of brightness for example, when the user leaves his seat and is no longer in front of the monitor, the monitor automatically reduces the power consumption up to 80%. 27 3.8 Philips Flat Panel Monitors Pixel Defect Policy Philips strives to deliver the highest quality products. We use some of the industr ys most advanced manufacturing processes and practice stringent quality control. However, pixel or sub pixel defects on the TFT monitor panels used in flat panel monitors are sometimes unavoidable. No manufacturer can guarantee that all panels will be free from pixel defects, but Philips guarantees that any monitor with an unacceptable number of defects will be repaired or replaced under warranty. This notice explains the different types of pixel defects and defines acceptable defect levels for each type. In order to qualify for repair or replacement under warranty, the number of pixel defects on a TFT monitor panel must exceed these acceptable levels. For example, no more than 0.0004% of the sub pixels on a 19 XGA monitor may be defective. Fur thermore, Philips sets even higher quality standards for cer tain types or combinations of pixel defects that are more noticeable than others. This policy is valid worldwide. Pixels and Sub pixels A pixel, or picture element, is composed of three sub pixels in the primar y colors of red, green and blue. Many pixels together form an image. When all sub pixels of a pixel are lit, the three colored sub pixels together appear as a single white pixel. When all are dark, the three colored sub pixels together appear as a single black pixel. Other combinations of lit and dark sub pixels appear as single pixels of other colors. Types of Pixel Defects Pixel and sub pixel defects appear on the screen in different ways. There are two categories of pixel defects and several types of sub pixel defects within each categor y. Bright Dot Defects Bright dot defects appear as pixels or sub pixels that are always lit or on. That is, a bright dot is a sub-pixel that stands out on the screen when the monitor displays a dark pattern. There are the types of bright dot defects: One lit red, green or blue sub pixel Two adjacent lit sub pixels: - Red + Blue = Purple - Red + Green = Yellow - Green + Blue = Cyan (Light Blue) Three adjacent lit sub pixels (one white pixel)
28 Note A red or blue bright dot must be more than 50 percent brighter than neighboring dots while a green bright dot is 30 percent brighter than neighboring dots. Black Dot Defects Black dot defects appear as pixels or sub pixels that are always dark or off. That is, a dark dot is a sub-pixel that stands out on the screen when the monitor displays a light pattern. These are the types of black dot defects: Proximity of Pixel Defects Because pixel and sub pixels defects of the same type that are near to one another may be more noticeable, Philips also specifies tolerances for the proximity of pixel defects. Pixel Defect Tolerances In order to qualify for repair or replacement due to pixel defects during the warranty period, a TFT monitor panel in a Philips flat panel monitor must have pixel or sub pixel defects exceeding the tolerances listed in the following tables.
