31 A AB NOTES: •Some discs may not work with the repeat operation. •In Repeat A-B mode, subtitles near point A or B may not appear. •You may not be able to set Repeat A-B, depending on the scenes of the DVD. •Repeat A-B does not work with MP3 CDs and interactive DVDs. Repeat/Random/Program playback and Repeat A-B Press PLAY MODE during playback or stop mode. Each time you press PLAY MODE, playback mode changes as follows. Repeat A-B playback allows you to repeat material between two selected points. To resume normal playback press REPEAT A-B again. “ Off” appears on the screen. 1Press REPEAT A-B during playback. The start point is selected. 2Press REPEAT A-B again. The end point is selected. Playback starts at the point that you selected. Playback stops at the end point, returns to Point A automatically, then starts again. 32 Marking desired scenes The TV/DVD stores the points that you want to watch again. You can resume playback from that scene. 1Press MARKER during playback. Press SUB TITLE during play- back until “Off” appears. Changing the subtitle language You can select the language when playing back a disc recorded with multi-lingual subtitles. 1Press SUB TITLE repeat- edly during playback until your desired language ap- pears. 2The on-screen display will disappear after a few seconds. Changing soundtrack language/Subtitles 1Press AUDIO during play- back. 2 NOTES: •If the desired language is not heard af- ter pressing the SUB TITLE button sev- eral times, the language is not recorded on the disc. •Changing soundtrack language is can- celled when you open the disc tray. The initial default language or available lan- guage will be heard if the disc is played back again. •Changing subtitle language is cancelled when you open the disc tray or turn the power off. •Some functions may not work on some DVDs. You may not be able to turn sub- titles on or off or change subtitles. While playing the DVD, the subtitle may change when: - you open or close the disc tray - you change the title. •In some cases, the subtitle language is not changed to the selected one imme- diately.Press AUDIO repeatedly until the desired language is selected.The current soundtrack language will appear. 34 1/9 Changing angles/Title selection/DVD menu When playing back a disc recorded with multi-angle facil- ity, you can change the view angle. 1Press ANGLE during play- back. The current angle will ap- pear. 2Press ANGLE repeatedly until the desired angle is selected. Changing angles Two or more titles are recorded on some discs. If the title menu is recorded on the disc, you can select the desired title. Press ENTER or PLAY. The playback of the selected title will start. 1Press TITLE during playback. Title menu appears on the screen. 2Press / or / to select the desired title. 3 Title selection Some DVDs allow you to select the disc contents using the menu. When you play back these DVDs, you can select the sub- title language and sound-track language,etc. using the DVD menu. 1Press DVD MENU during playback. The DVD menu appears on the screen. •Press DVD MENU again to resume playback at the scene when you pressed DVD MENU. 2Press / or / to select the desired item. 3Press ENTER. The menu continues to another screen. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to set additional items if any. You have the following screen sizes to choose from: 16:9 Wide screen Select this mode when connecting to a wide-screen TV. A wide screen picture is displayed full size. 4:3 Letterbox Select this mode when connecting to a conventional TV. When playing back a wide screen-DVD disc, it displays the wide picture with black bands at the top and bottom of screen. 4:3 Panscan It displays the wide picture on the whole screen with left and right edges automatically cut off. •If you want to return to the previous menu, press or RETURN. 4Press SETUP to remove the Menu screen. Such discs can be preven- ted from play back with the unit. NOTES: •If each setup (P.35–39) has been completed, the unit can always be operated under the same conditions (especially with DVD discs). Each setup will be retained in the memory when you turn the power off. •Depending on the discs, the unit can- not limit playback. •Some discs may not be encoded with specific rating level information though its disc jacket says “adult.” For those discs, the age restriction will not work.1Press DVD to select DVD mode. Press SETUP in the stop mode or No Disc. Press or to select “Parental”, then press or ENTER. 2Press or to select “Parental Level”, then press or ENTER. 3Press or to select a level from Off or 1–8. Press or ENTER to set the se- lected level. • Level Off:The parental control setting does not func- tion. (Factory preset) • Level 1:LOCK ALL: Playback of all DVDs is prohibited. (Use to prohibit play of mature theme DVDs not en- coded with a rating level.) • Level 2:DVDs expressly for children can be played back. • Level 3 to 7:DVDs for general audiences/children can be played back. (DVDs with mature content are prohibited.) • Level 8:NO LIMIT: All DVDs can be played back. • Select from the level 1 to level 8. The limitation will be more severe as the level number is lower. 4Press or to select “Password”, then press or ENTER. 5Press number buttons (0– 9) for the password. Don’t forget the password. •If you input a wrong number, press CANCEL. 6Press ENTER to store the password. 39 To change the parental level 1Press DVD to select DVD mode. Press SETUP in the stop mode or No Disc. Press or to select “Parental”, then press or ENTER. 2Press or to select “Password”, then press or ENTER. 3Press number buttons (0– 9) to enter the password you have stored. • If you input a wrong number, press CANCEL. 4Press ENTER. The password is now Off. 5Press or to select “Parental Level”. Then press or ENTER. The Parental Level screen is displayed. 6Press or to select a level from Off or 1–8 and then press or ENTER. 7Press or to select “Password” and then press or ENTER. 8Press number buttons (0– 9) to enter a 4-digit pass- word. Note: You can enter a new password. 9Press ENTER. The parental level is now changed and locked. • If you want to return to the previous menu, press or RETURN. Press SETUP to remove the parental control screen. NOTE: Do not forget the password. If you forget the password, in the No Disc DVD mode, press and hold STOP on the unit, and simultaneously press and hold 7 on the remote control for more than 3 seconds. “PASSWORD CLEAR” appears on the screen. The password has been cleared. 40 Temporary disabling of rating level by DVD disc 1Load a DVD disc and press PLAY (see page 27). 2If the DVD disc has been designed to temporarily cancel the Rating level, the screen which appears after inserting a DVD will change, depending on which disc is played. If you select “YES” with the ENTER key, “Your disc exceeds the parental control level.” screen will then appear. 3If you wish to cancel the set rating level temporarily, enter the 4-digit password. Then press ENTER. Alternatively, if the password has not been set, playback will commence. If you don’t know (or have forgotten) the password, select “STOP”. The setting screen will disappear. Press OPEN/CLOSE to remove the disc. To quit entering, press RETURN. 4Playback will commence if the entered password was cor- rect. NOTE: The rating level will remain disabled until the disc is ejected. When the disc is ejected, the original rating level will be set again automatically. Depending on the DVD disc, the disc may try to temporarily cancel the rating level that you have set. It is up to you to decide whether to cancel the rating level or not.
