    Zoom In/Out Functions
    The Zoom Function can be used to record objects close by or to
    achieve a wide-angle shot.
    1For wide-angle shots (zoom out):
    Press the [W/T] zoom lever towards [W].
    For close-ups (zoom in):
    Press the [W/T] zoom lever towards [T].
    ≥Zoom magnification is displayed for a few seconds.
    ≥Generally speaking, when the [W/T] zoom lever is pressed farther
    towards [W] or [T], the zooming speed gradually increases.
    ªTaking Close-up Shots of Small Subjects
    (Macro Close-up Function)
    When the zoom magnification is 1a, the Palmcorder can focus on a
    subject that is as close as approximately 0.8 inches (2 cm) from the
    lens. With this feature, small subjects such as insects can be
    recorded.
    ªTo Use the Tele-Macro Function
    With the zoom magnification of 10a, the Palmcorder can bring the
    subject into focus as close as approximately 15.7 inches (40 cm)
    from the Lens. Focusing only on the subject and bringing the
    background off the focus make the picture more impressive.
    1Press the [TELE MACRO] Button.
    ≥The zoom magnification is fixed to 10k and the focusing onto
    the subject becomes available up to approximately 15.7 inches
    (40 cm) close.
    ≥The [ ] Indication
    2 appears.
    2Press the Recording Start/Stop Button.
    To Cancel the Tele-Macro Function
    Press the [TELE MACRO] Button.
    ªTo Use the Zoom Microphone Function
    Along with the zooming operation, the microphone’s directional
    angle and sensitivity are varied for recording sounds.
    ≥Set [CAMERA FUNCTIONS] >> [RECORDING SETUP] >>
    [ZOOM MIC] >> [ON]. (The [Z.MIC] Indication is displayed.
     1)
    ≥The Zoom Microphone Function may not work effectively if the
    surrounding noise is too loud.
    ≥When the [TAPE/CARD/CARD MODE] Selector is set to [CARD],
    the Zoom Microphone Function does not work.
    ≥It does not work with an external microphone.
    ≥For other notes, see page 86.

    Manual Shutter Speed Adjustment
    Useful for recording fast-moving subjects.

    The Range of Shutter Speed Adjustment
    Tape Mode 1/60–1/8000
    Card Mode 1/30–1/500
    The standard shutter speed is 1/60 second.
    Selecting a speed closer to [1/8000] causes the shutter speed to be
    faster, resulting in crisper captures of moving subjects but a lower
    light level.
    ≥When the progressive function is [ON], a speed only up to 1/500
    can be used.
    To Resume Automatic Adjustment
    Set the Mode Selector Switch to [AUTO].
    ≥For other notes, see page 88.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Manual Iris Adjustment (F Number)
    You can use this function when the screen is too bright or too dark.
    1Set the Mode Selector Switch to [MANUAL].
    ≥The [MNL] Indication 1 appears.
    2Press the [PUSH] Dial repeatedly until the Iris
    Indication
    2 appears.
    3Rotate the [PUSH] Dial to adjust the iris.
    Adjustable Range of the Iris
    CLOSE (Closed), F16, ..., F2.0,
    OPEN (Opened) 0dB, ..., 18dB
    When a value closer to [CLOSE] is selected, the image becomes
    darker.
    When a value closer to [18dB] is selected, the image becomes
    brighter.
    The value to which dB is attached indicates a gain value. If this value
    is too large, the quality of the image deteriorates.
    Adjusting White Balance Manually
    When the Auto White Balance Adjustment function does not operate
    suitably under the existing light conditions, use the Manual White
    Balance Adjustment mode.
    1Set the Mode Selector Switch to [MANUAL].
    ≥The [MNL] Indication 1 appears.2Press the [PUSH] Dial.≥The [AWB] Indication appears.3Rotate the [PUSH] Dial until the [1] Indication 2 is
    displayed.
    4Point the Palmcorder at a full-screen white subject,
    and then keep the [PUSH] Dial pressed until
    indication [1] stops flashing.
    ≥When the [1] Indication flashes after turning the Palmcorder
    on, the previously adjusted white balance setting is still kept.
    To Resume Automatic Adjustment
    Rotate the [PUSH] Dial until the [AWB] Indication appears. Or, set
    the Mode Selector Switch to [AUTO].
    ªAbout White Balance Sensor
    The White Balance Sensor 3 determines the nature of the light
    source during recording.
    ≥Do not cover the White Balance Sensor with your hand during
    recording. Otherwise, White Balance will not work normally.
    ≥The red light from the Recording Lamp
    4 will be reflected off your
    hand or object, possibly causing the White Balance sensor to
    operate incorrectly and changing the coloring.
    Use of Auto White Balance Adjustment in inappropriate lighting
    conditions may result in reddish or bluish images. Where the subject
    is surrounded by many light-sources, Auto White Balance
    Adjustment may not operate properly. In such a case, we suggest
    that you adjust the White Balance.
