    NO.RESET
     
    Set this when you want to start the fi le 
    number of the picture from 0001 on the 
    next recording.
    The folder number is updated, and the 
    fi le number starts from 0001.
    The folder number can be assigned from 
    100 to 999. When the folder number 
    reaches 999, it cannot be reset the 
    number. We recommend formatting the 
    card after saving the data on a PC or 
    elsewhere.
    To reset the folder number to 100, you 
    must fi rst reformat the built-in memory or 
    the card. After this perform [NO.RESET] 
    to reset the fi le number, after which a 
    screen appears asking whether you want 
    to reset the folder number. Select [YES].

    RESET
    The settings on the recording or the 
    [SETUP] menu are reset to the initial 
    settings.
    When you reset the settings on the 
    recording in recording mode, lens is also 
    placed back to initial position. Despite the 
    lens operation noise will be occurred, this 
    is not malfunction.
    When you reset the SETUP settings, 
    following settings are also initialized.
    Birthday and name settings in [BABY] 
    and [PET] mode
    The number of days that have passed 
    since the departure date for [TRAVEL 
    DATE]
    [WORLD TIME] setting
    [FAVORITE] is fi xed to [OFF], and 
    [ROTATE DISP.] is fi xed to [ON].
    The battery type setting, the folder number 
    and the clock setting are not changed.

    Initializing the built-in memory or

      FORMAT
    Usually, it is not necessary to format the 
    built-in memory and the card. Format them 
    when the message [BUILT-IN MEMORY 
    ERROR] or [MEMORY CARD ERROR] 
    appears. Use batteries with suffi cient 
    power when formatting.
    Once formatting has been completed, 
    all data including protected pictures 
    will be deleted. Make sure not to 
    delete them before formatting
    When the card is not inserted, built-in 
    memory can be formatted. When the card 
    is inserted, the card can be formatted.
    Do not turn the camera off during 
    formatting.
    It may take longer to format the built-in

    memory than the card. (Max. about 15 sec.)You cannot format an SD Memory Card 
    or an SDHC Memory Card when the 
    card’s Write-Protect switch set to [LOCK].
    If the card has been formatted on a PC or 
    other equipment, format it on the camera

    be formatted, consult your nearest

    The camera automatically detects jittering

    them. (You cannot shoot while the 
    demonstration is on.)

    The camera automatically sets the 
    appropriate settings according to the 
    subject and recording condition. This mode 
    is recommended for beginners to take 
    pictures easily.

    However, the available distance between 
    the camera and the subject becomes 
    further as you set high magnifi cation [up

    Press the halfway pressed shutter 
    button fully to take a picture.
    The following functions are automatically 
    activated.
    Automatic scene detection
    The camera detects different recording 
    situations and automatically switches to 
    the suitable scene setting.
    The selected scene is displayed with the 
    icon top left on screen.

    the face occupied in the screen is too big.
    In any case, the camera makes the 
    best setting. To take pictures in some 
    specifi c scene, using the recording mode 
    matching your purpose is recommended.

    Focusing will be faster when the shutter 
    button is pressed as the camera 
    automatically adjusts the focus when there 
    is not much jittering.
    Stabilizer
    The camera automatically detects and 
    compensates for jittering.–

    You can automatically display pictures 
    vertically if they were recorded holding 
    the camera vertically 
    ( P32 ,  94 ).
    When you press the shutter button, the 
    screen may become bright or dark for 
    a moment. This function allows easy 
    adjustment of focus and the recorded 
    picture will not be affected.
    Be careful not to move the camera when 
    you press the shutter button.
    Do not cover the photo fl ash or the AF 
    assist lamp with your fi nger or other 
    objects.
    Do not touch the lens.
    In [i NIGHT SCENERY] the shutter 
    speed becomes 8 seconds only when the 
    camera has determined that there is little 
    jitter such as when using a tripod. Do not 
    move the camera while taking pictures.
    You cannot use the following functions.
    Exposure compensation
    Auto bracket
    White balance fi ne adjustment
    Digital zoom
    Flash

    Using the fl ash
    If the fl ash is set to AUTO [], AUTO/
    RED-EYE [
    ] or Slow sync./Red-eye 
    reduction [], the fl ash will work when 
    you press the shutter button if the camera 
    determines that the area to be shot is too 
    dark.
    You can change the fl ash settings 
    ( P43 ).
    When you press the shutter button, the
