Advanced 45VQT0Y44 nThe available flash range to take pictures The available flash range to take pictures depends on the ISO sensitivity selected (P84). • The available flash range is an approximation. • Refer to P29 for the focus range. • Refer to P84 for the ISO sensitivity. • If ISO sensitivity is set to [AUTO] or [ ] when using the flash, it will be automatically increased to a maximum of [ISO640].• To avoid picture noises, we recommend reducing the ISO sensitivity, setting [NOISE REDUCTION] in [PICT.ADJ.] to [HIGH] or setting the items except [NOISE REDUCTION] to [LOW] to take pictures. (P91) • In motion picture mode [i] (P75), [SCENERY] (P63), [NIGHT SCENERY] (P64), [FIREWORKS] (P66), [STARRY SKY] (P67), [AERIAL PHOTO] (P68) or [HIGH SENS.] (P68) in scene mode, the flash mode is fixed to Forced OFF [ v] even if the flash is open. nShutter speed for each flash mode • Refer to P55 for the Aperture-priority AE, Shutter-priority AE or Manual exposure mode. • The settings may be different from those shown here if you are using scene modes. – [NIGHT SCENERY] (P64): 8 seconds to 1/2000th of a second – [FIREWORKS] (P66): 1/4th of a second, 2 seconds – [STARRY SKY] (P67): 15 seconds, 30 seconds, 60 seconds ISO sensitivityAvailable flash range AUTO 60 cm (1.97 feet) to 4.9 m (16.08 feet) (Wide) 30 cm (0.98 feet) to 2.8 m (9.19 feet) (Tele) 60 cm (1.97 feet) to 4.9 m (16.08 feet) (Wide) 30 cm (0.98 feet) to 2.8 m (9.19 feet) (Tele) ISO100 60 cm (1.97 feet) to 1.9 m (6.23 feet) (Wide) 30 cm (0.98 feet) to 1.1 m (3.61 feet) (Tele) ISO200 60 cm (1.97 feet) to 2.7 m (8.86 feet) (Wide) 30 cm (0.98 feet) to 1.5 m (4.92 feet) (Tele) ISO400 60 cm (1.97 feet) to 3.9 m (12.8 feet) (Wide) 40 cm (1.31 feet) to 2.2 m (7.22 feet) (Tele) ISO800 80 cm (2.62 feet) to 5.5 m (18.0 feet) (Wide) 60 cm (1.97 feet) to 3.1 m (10.17 feet) (Tele) ISO1600 115 cm (3.77 feet) to 5.7 m (18.7 feet) (Wide) 90 cm (2.95 feet) to 3.2 m (10.5 feet) (Tele) ISO ISO Flash modeShutter speed (sec.) r: AUTO 1/30 to 1/2000 s: AUTO/Red- eye reduction1/30 to 1/2000 t: Forced ON q: Forced ON/ Red-eye reduction1/30 to 1/2000 u:Slow sync./ Red-eye reduction1 to 1/2000 v : Forced OFF 1 to 1/2000 (In Program AE mode)

Advanced 46VQT0Y44 nAdjusting flash output Adjust the flash output when the subject is small or reflection ratio is extremely high or low. 1Press e [C] several times until [ FLASH] appears and then press w/q to set the flash output. • You can adjust from [-2 EV] to [+2 EV] in steps of [1/3 EV]. • Select [0 EV] to return to the original flash output. 2Press [MENU/SET] to finish. •You can also press the shutter button halfway to finish. • When the flash output is adjusted, the flash output value appears on the upper left of the screen. • The flash output setting is memorized even if the camera is turned off. • In Auto mode [0], motion picture mode [i], and [SCENERY] (P63), [NIGHT SCENERY] (P64), [FIREWORKS] (P66), [STARRY SKY] (P67), [AERIAL PHOTO] (P68) or [HIGH SENS.] (P68) in scene mode, you cannot adjust the flash output. • Do not look directly at the flash at close range when it is activated. • Do not bring the flash too close to objects or close the flash while it is activated. The objects may be discolored by its heat or lighting. • Do not cover the photo flash with your fingers or any other items.• In economy mode, the LCD monitor turns off and the status indicator blinks while the flash is charged. [This does not happen when using the AC adaptor (DMW-AC5; optional).] If the remaining battery power is low, the length of time that the LCD monitor turns off to charge may become longer. • The flash icon turns red when activating the flash and pressing the shutter button halfway. • When the jitter alert appears, we recommend using a tripod. • When you take a picture beyond the available flash range, the exposure may not be adjusted properly and the picture may become bright or dark. • When taking a picture with the flash, the white balance will be automatically adjusted [except for [ x] (Daylight), [ ] (Flash)], but the white balance may not be properly adjusted if the photo flash is insufficient. (P82) • When the shutter speed is fast, the flash effect may not be sufficient. • When you repeat taking a picture, recording may be disabled even if the flash is activated. Take a picture after the access indication disappears. • When the flash is being charged, the flash icon blinks red, and you cannot take a picture even when you press the shutter button fully. • Do not close the flash immediately after using a secondary light source, for example AUTO/Red-eye reduction [ s]. Doing so can damage the camera. • The red-eye reduction effect differs between people. Also, if the subject was far away from the camera or was not looking at the first flash, the effect may not be evident. • When you set burst mode or auto bracket, only 1 picture is recorded for every flash activated. • You can extend the shutter speed by up to 1/8 by using exposure compensation. • Sand or seawater may cause the camera to malfunction. Make sure that sand or seawater does not come in touch with the flash. MENU FLASH SELECT EXIT
