Press [DISP.] or touch the LCD monitor to make the display reappear. ∫ About the tilt sensor display With the tilt sensor displayed, it is easy to correct the tilt of the camera etc. 1Press [DISP.] to display the tilt sensor.2Check the tilt of the camera. A Horizontal direction: Correcting tilt to the leftBVertical direction: Correcting downward tilt •When the tilt of the camera is little, the indicator changes to green.•When recording with a vertical orientation, the display automatically switches to a vertically orientated display. Note •Even after correcting the tilt, there may still be an error of approximately ± 1°. •When [Fn Button Set] of the [Custom] menu is set to [Level Gauge], you can switch the tilt sensor display on/off by pressing function button. •When tilted significantly upwards or downwards to record, the tilt sensor display may not be displayed correctly, and the Direction Detection Function (P33) may not work correctly.
- 42 - Basic Taking Pictures using the Automatic Function (Intelligent Auto Mode) Recording Mode: In this mode, the camera makes the optimal settings for the subject and scene, so we recommend it when you wish to leave the settings to the camera and record without thinking about them. Press [¦]. •The camera will switch to eith er the most recently used of Intelligent Auto Mode or Intelligent Auto Plus Mode. (P46) At the time of purchase, the mode is set to Intelligent Auto Mode. •[¦] button will light up when it is switched to Intelligent Auto Mode. (Light turns off during recording) •[¦] button is turned off when it is pressed again, and it will be set to the [Rec] Modes selected by the mode dial. •Defocus control can be set by touching [ ] on the recording screen and then touching [ ]. (P48) •When the subject is touched, AF Tracking function works. It is also possible by pressing the cursor button towards 2, and then pressing the shutter button halfway. For details, refer to P97.
- 43 - Basic ∫Scene Detection When the camera identifies the optimum scene, the icon of the scene concerned is displayed in blue for 2 seconds, after which its color changes to the usual red. Depending on the identified scene, the camera may display [ ], which allows you to select the camera-recommended effects. For details, refer to “Recording with Camera-Recommended Effects” on P45. When taking pictures ¢ 1 Only when [ ] (AUTO) is selected. ¢ 2 When [Face Recog.] is set to [ON], [ ] will be displayed for birthdays of registered faces already set only when the face of a person 3 years old or younger is detected. When recording motion pictures • [¦] is set if none of the scenes are applicable, and the standard settings are set.•When [ ], [ ] or [ ] is selected, the camera automatically detects a person’s face, and it will adjust the focus and exposure. (Face Detection) •If a tripod is used, for instance, and the camera has judged that camera shake is minimal when the Scene detection has been identified as [ ], the shutter speed will be slower than normal. Note •The Backlight Compensation–When there is a backlight, the subject appears darker and the camera will automatically attempt to correct it by increasing the brightness of the picture. In Intelligent Auto Mode, backlight compensation works automatically. (Only availabl e when [Recommended Filter] on the recording menu is set to [ON]. - 46 - Basic Recording Mode: The brightness and color optimally set by the camera can be easily matched to your preferences. This mode is useful if you do not like dealing with detailed settings but like the settings made automatically by the camera to match your preferences. • Except for allowing setting of the brightness and color, Intelligent Auto Plus Mode is identical to Intelligent Auto Mode. 1Press [MENU/SET] when in Intelligent Auto Mode. 2Touch [iA MODE]. 3Select [ ] and then touch [Set]. 1Touch [ ]. 2Touch [ ] to display the setting screen. • The setting screen can also be displayed from the recording screen by pressing rear dial. Each press of the rear dial switches among brightness setting, Defocus Control (P48) and end operation. 3Drag the slide bar to set. •This will adjust the brightness of the image.•Setting can also be performed by rotating the rear dial. •Touch [ ] again to return to the recording screen. Note • If you touch [ ] during the adjustment, you can take a picture also by touching [ ]. •The brightness and color settings will return to the default (center point) when this unit is turned off or the camera is switched to another Recording Mode. - 49 - Basic Note •On the Defocus Control setting screen of Intelligent Auto ( or ) Mode, the AF Mode is [ Ø]. You can set the location of the AF area by touching the screen. (Size cannot be changed) •After beginning motion picture recording, the amount of defocus will vary depending on the recording conditions. •Aperture is controlled within the range of appropriate exposure during the recording of a motion picture, so the aperture may not actually change even when the slide bar is moved depending on the brightness of the subject, and the blurriness may not change. (When recording dark scenes in rooms etc., the aperture may remain fully open and leave the defocus state unchanged, even when you move the slide bar from end to end.) •Depending on the lens used, you may hear a sound from the lens when the Defocus Control is used, but this is due to operation of the aperture of the lens and it is not a malfunction. •Depending on the lens used, operational sound of the Defocus Control may be recorded during the recording of a motion picture when the function is used. •Depending on the lens used, Defocus Control function may not operate. Refer to the website for compatible lenses. •In [Miniature Effect] of Creative Control Mode, Defocus Control cannot be used.
- 50 - Basic Taking Pictures with Your Favorite Settings (Program AE Mode) Recording Mode: The camera automatically sets the shutter speed and the aperture value according to the brightness of the subject. You can take pictures with greater freedom by changing various settings in the [Rec] menu. Set the mode dial to [ ]. Note •The shutter speed is automatically set between about 20 seconds and 1/4000th of a second in the following cases. –When the [Sensitivity] is set to [ISO160].–When the aperture value is set to F3.5 [when the interchangeable lens (H-PS14042, H-FS014042) is attached]. –When the aperture value is set to F4.0 [when the interchangeable lens (H-FS45150) is attached].
