3Frame the photograph.

Self-timer mode: Press the shutter-release 
button halfway to focus, and then press the 
button the rest of the way down to start the 
self-timer (note that the timer will not star t if the camera is unable to focus or in 
other situations in which the shutter can not be released).

DBefore Using the Remote Control
Before using the remote control for the first t ime, remove the clear plastic battery-insulator 
sheet.
DUsing the Built-in Flash 
Before taking a photograph with the flash in  P,  S,  A , M , or  0 modes, press the  Mbutton to raise 
the flash and wait for the  M indicator to be displayed in the viewfinder ( 0143).
 Shooting will 
be interrupted if the flash is ra ised while remote control mode is in effect or after the self-
timer has started.

Mirror up Mode
Choose this mode to minimize blurring caused by camera movement when the 
mirror is raised.  Use of a tripod is recommended.
1Select mirror up mode.
Press the release mode dial lock release and 
rotate the release mode dial to M
UP.
2Raise the mirror.
Frame the picture, focus, and then press the 
shutter-release button the rest of the way down 
to raise the mirror.

Image Recording Options
Together, image quality and size determine how much space each photograph 
occupies on the memory card.
 Larger, higher quality images can be printed at larger 
sizes but also require more memory, meanin g that fewer such images can be stored 
on the memory card ( 0320).

Using Two Memory Cards
When two memory cards are inserted in the camera, you can use the Role played by 
card in Slot 2  item in the shooting menu to choose  the role played by the card in Slot 
2.
 Choose from  Overflow (the card in Slot 2 is used only when the card in Slot 1 is 
full),  Backup  (each picture is recorded twice, once to the card in Slot 1 and again to 
the card in Slot 2), and  RAW Slot 1—JPEG Slot 2  (as for Backup , except that the NEF/
RAW copies of photos recorded at settings...
