Adjust white balance based on the light source to
give pictures the most realistic colors possible.
[Auto] can be used under most types of lighting, or
you can apply the white balance setting suited to a
particular light source to achieve more accurate
results.
At settings other than [Auto], the icon for the current setting is displayed in
the monitor (c6).

f Preset White Balance
Preset white balance is used with mixed lighting or to compensate for light
sources with a strong color cast (for example, to make pictures taken under a
lamp with a red shade look as though they had been taken under white light).
1Place a white or gray reference object under the lighting that
will be used during shooting.

I Exp. +/–
Exposure compensation is used to alter exposure
from the value selected by the camera. Choose
from values between –2.0 EV and +2.0 EV in incre-
ments of 
1/3 EV. Negative values produce darker
pictures, positive values brighter pictures.
The effects can be previewed in the display. At set-
tings other than zero, the current value for expo-
sure compensation is also displayed in the monitor.

Capture a fleeting expression on a portrait subject,
photograph a subject that is moving unpredictably,
or capture motion in a series of pictures.
The indicator for the current setting is displayed in the monitor ( c6). At set-
tings other than [Single], focus, exposure, and white balance are fixed at the
values for the first picture in each series.

A Best Shot Selector (BSS)
The “best shot selector” is recommended from situ-
ations in which inadvertent camera movement can
result in blurred pictures, or when parts of the
image are prone to under- or overexposure. BSS
may not produce the desired results if the subject
moves or the composition changes while the shut-
ter-release button is fully pressed.
At settings other than [Off], the icon for the current setting is displayed...

W Sensitivity
Sensitivity is a measure of how quickly the camera reacts to light. The higher
the sensitivity, the less light needed to make an exposure. Although a high
ISO rating is suited for taking pictures of subjects in action or in poor lighting,
high sensitivity is often associated with “noise” -randomly spaced, brightly
colored pixels concentrated in dark parts of the image. Choose from values
between ISO 64 and 400...

Make colors more vivid or record pictures in mono-
chrome.
The effects of the selected option can be previewed in the monitor. At set-
tings other than [Standard color], the icon for the current setting is displayed

Use for pictures exhibiting natural color.
CVivid color
Use to achieve a vivid, “photoprint” effect.

Restrictions on Camera Settings
Restrictions apply to the following settings in L mode:
Flash mode
Flash turns off at [Continuous] settings of [Continuous] or [Multi-shot 
16] or when [BSS] is on. Applied setting is restored when [Single] or 
[Intvl timer shooting] is selected or [BSS] is turned off.
Self-timer
If self-timer is on, only one shot will be taken when shutter is 
released, regardless of settings chosen for...
