The closest distance at which the camera can focus varies depending on the zoom pos ition . 42 Shooting in Scene Mode Shooting Suited for the Scenes Shooting in the Scene Mode Selected by the Camera (Scene Auto Selector) By simply framing a picture, the camera automatically selects the optimum scene mode for simpler shooting. Should this occur, switch to auto mode (A22) or choose the desired scene mode manually ( A35). CFlash Mode in Scene Auto Selector ModeU (auto) (default setting) and W (off ) flash mode settings ( A30) can be applied. • When U (auto) is applied, the camera automatically chooses the optimum flash mode setting for the scene mode it has selected. • When W (off ) is applied, the flash does not fire, regardless of shooting conditions. CFunctions Restricted in Scene Auto Selector Mode•Digital zoom is not available. • The macro mode button on the rotary multi selector cannot be used ( A10, 33). • Even if e (portrait) is selected, the smile indicator ( A36) is not displayed. • The AF area mode setting (A110) is set to Auto in i (close-up) mode. 44 Shooting in Scene Mode Shooting Suited for the Scenes Taking Pictures in Food Mode Use this mode to take pictures of food. 1Display the shooting-mode selection menu by pressing the A button in shooting mode, and use the rotary multi selector to choose u Food (A 35). •Macro mode ( A33) will be turned on and the camera automatically zooms to the position at the closest distance at which the camera can focus. 2Press the rotary multi selector H or I to choose white balance. • Press H to increase the amount of red, or I to increase the amount of blue. 3Frame the picture. • The closest distance at which the camera can focus varies depending on the zoom position. The camera can focus at a distance of 2 cm (0.8 in.) at the zoom position at which F and the zoom indicator glow green (the zoom indicator is at G). • As pictures are easily affected by camera shake, check the Vibration reduc tion (A 131) setting and hold the camera steadily. • AF area mode is set to Manual (A 110). Press the k button to move the focus area. Press the rotary multi selector H, I , J or K to move the focus area to the desired position. Press the k button again to lock the selected focus area. • Self-timer ( A32) and exposure compensation ( A34) settings can be adjusted while the focus area is locked. 45 Shooting in Scene Mode Shooting Suited for the Scenes 4Press the shutter-release button to take the picture. •Focus is locked when the shutter-release button is pressed halfway, and a picture is taken when the shutter-release button is pressed the rest of the way down. • When the camera is unable to focus, the focus area blinks red. Change the composition and press the shutter-release button halfway again. BNote on Food Mode Flash mode is disabled. Macro mode setting ( A33) is changed to ON. CWhite Balance Setting in Food Mode •Increasing the amount of red or blue will decrease illumination effects. • Changing white balance in food mode will not affect White balance in the shooting menu ( A 102). • The white balance setting applied in food mode is stored in the camera’s memory even after the camera is turned off, and reapplied the next time food mode is selected. Set Vibration reduction (A 131) to Off when using a tripod to stabilize the camera during shooting. 1Display the shooting-mode selection menu by pressing the A button in shooting mode, and use the rotary multi selector to choose p Panorama assist (A 35). •The I icon is displayed to show the direction in which pictures will be joined. 2Use the rotary multi selector to choose the direction and press the k button. •Decide how pictures will be joined together in the completed panorama; right ( I), left ( J), up ( K) or down ( L). • The yellow panorama direction icon ( II) will move to the direction pressed and press the k button to choose the direction. A white panorama direction icon ( I) will be displayed in the chosen direction. • Apply flash mode ( A30), self-timer ( A32), macro mode ( A33) and exposure compensation ( A34) settings with this step, if necessary. • Press the k button again to reselect the direction. 3Shoot the first picture. •The picture taken will be displayed in 1/3 of the monitor. 47 Shooting in Scene Mode Shooting Suited for the Scenes 4Shoot the second picture. •Compose the next picture so that it overlaps the first picture. • Repeat until you have taken the necessary number of pictures to complete the image. 5Press the k button when shooting is completed. • The camera returns to step 2. BPanorama Assist • Flash mode, self-timer, macro mode and exposure compensation settings cannot be adjusted after the first picture is taken. Pictures cannot be deleted, nor can zoom or image mode setting ( A100) be adjusted until the series is finalized. • The panorama series is terminated if the camera enters standby mode with the auto off function (A 134) during shooting. Setting the time allowed to elapse before the auto off function is enabled to a longer time is recommended. DR (exposure lock) Indicator R is displayed to indicate that white balance, exposure, and focus have been locked at the values set with the first shot. All pictures taken in a panorama series have the same focus, exposure, and white-balance settings. DPanorama MakerInstall Panorama Maker from the supplied Software Suite CD. Transfer pictures to a computer ( A87) and use Panorama Maker ( A90) to join them in a single panorama. 48 Shooting Continuously at High Speed (Sport Continuous) Shooting Continuously at High Speed (Sport Continuous) Shooting in Sport Continuous Mode Sport continuous mode allows rapid, continuous shooting while you press and hold the shutter-release button fully. With continuous shooting, instantaneous movements in moving subjects can be captured clearly. •The shutter speed is set automatically within the range of 1/4,000 to 1/15 s. • The ISO sensitivity is set automatically within the range of ISO 640 to 3200. • The image mode will be change to MNormal (2048) or smaller. • The focus, exposure, and white balance settings are fixed at the values for the first picture in each series. 1Display the shooting-mode selection menu by pressing the A button in shooting mode, and use the rotary multi selector to choose the third icon from the top. 2Press K, choose dSport continuous and press the k button. •The shooting mode will be changed to sport continuous mode. 3Press the d button and choose a continuous shooting type. • See “Sport Continuous menu” ( A49) for more information. • Once configuration is done press the d button to return to the shooting screen. Pressing the shutter- release button will also return you to the shooting screen. 4Frame the subject and shoot. • Focus on the center of the frame. Press the shutter- release button halfway down to lock focus and exposure. • While the shutter-release button is held down, up to 20 pictures can be taken.
