150 o CropCreate cropped copies of selected pictures. —155 Edit movie Create copies of movies from which unwanted footage has been trimmed. —156 APlayback The camera may be unable to displa y or retouch images that were cre- ated or have been edited with other devices. AImage Quality Copies created from JPEG photos are the same quality as the original ( 0 162). NEF (RAW ) photos can not be retouched; when retouch options are used with pictures taken at an image quality of NEF (RAW) + JPEG fine , the JPEG image will be retouched and saved as a fine- quality JPEG copy. 151 o Selecting Multiple Images Choosing the options listed below dis- plays an image selection dialog. Press 4 or 2 to highlight pictures (only pictures to which the operation applies are avail- able for selection). • Delete > Delete selected images (0 134) • Protect > Select/set ( 0152) • D-Lighting (0 153) • Resize > Select images (0 154) • Crop (0 155) • Edit movie (0 156)
152 o Choose whether to rotate “tall” (portrait-orientation) pictures for display during playback. Note that because the camera itself is already in the appropriate orientation during shooting, images are not rotated automatically during image review. Choose how the camera displays bursts or series of photographs taken in sports (074) or continuous ( 097) mode or with Active Selection (0 76) or Smart Photo Selector (0 83) selected in best moment capture mode. Protect selected images from accidental deletion. Note that this option does NOT protect files from deletion when the memory card is formatted ( 0195). Rotate Tall On “Tall” (portrait-orientation) pictures are automatically rotated for display in the camera monitor. Pictures taken with Off selected for Auto image rotation (0 200) will be displayed in “wide” (landscape) orientation. Off “Tall” (portrait-orientation) pictures are displayed in “wide” (landscape) orientation. Sequence Display Options Key picture only Only the key frame is displayed. The other pictures in the series can be viewed as described on page 132. Individual pictures Each picture in the series is shown separately. Protect Select/setPress 4 or 2 to highlight pictures (0 151) and press 3 to select or deselect. Press J to exit when the operation is com- plete. Reset Remove protection from all pictures.
153 o Applied to selected images, D-Lighting creates copies that have been processed to brighten shadows. Press 4 or 2 to highlight an image ( 0 151) and press J to display the options shown at right. Press 1 or 3 to choose the amount of correction per- formed (the effect can be previewed in the display) and press J to create a retouched copy. D-Lighting Before After DD-Lighting Noise (randomly-spaced bright pixels, fog, or lines) may appear in cop- ies created with D-Lighting. Uneven shading may be visible with some subjects. AImage Size Copies are the same size as the original.
154 o Create small copies of selected photo- graphs. Select Choose size and choose a size from 1280×856; 1.1 M (1280 × 856 pix- els), 960×640; 0.6 M (960 × 640 pixels), and 640×424; 0.3 M (640 × 424 pixels), and then choose Select images. Press 4 or 2 to highlight pictures ( 0151) and press 3 to select or deselect. When the selection is complete, press J to display a confirma- tion dialog and select Ye s to save the resized copies. Resize DResized Copies Playback zoom may not be available with resized copies.
155 o Create a cropped copy of selected photo- graphs. Press 4 or 2 or rotate the multi selector to highlight a picture ( 0151) and press J to display the image with the default crop shown in yellow. Use the controls below to choose a crop and save the copy. Crop ToUseDescription Choose size Rotate the command dial to choose the crop size. Choose aspect ratio Rotate the multi selector to choose between aspect ratios of 3 : 2, 4 : 3, 1 : 1, and 16 : 9. Position crop Press 1, 3 , 4 , or 2 to position the crop. Create copy JSave the current crop as a separate file. DCropped Copies Playback zoom may not be available with cropped copies. The size of the copy varies with crop size and aspect ratio and appears at upper left in the crop display.
156 o Trim footage from movies to create edited copies. 1Choose an edit option. 2Select a movie. Press 4 or 2 to highlight a movie (0 151) and press J to select. 3Pause the movie on opening or closing frame. Edit Movie Highlight one of the following options and press 2: • Choose start point : Remove all frames before a chosen starting frame. • Choose end point : Remove all frames after a chosen closing frame. Play the movie back, pressing J to begin and resume playback and 3 to pause ( 046; the first frame is indi- cated by a h icon in the display, the last frame by i). While playback is paused, press 4 or 2 to rewind or advance one frame at a time. Pause playback when you reach the frame that will become the new opening or closing frame. Start point End point
157 o 4Delete the unwanted frames. Press 1 to delete all frames before ( Choose start point ) or after (Choose end point ) the current frame. 5Save the copy. Highlight Ye s and press J to save the edited copy. If necessary, the copy can be trimmed as described above to remove additional footage. DTrimming Movies Movies must be at least two seconds long (or, in the case of 4K and slow-motion movies, at least three seconds long). If a copy can not be created at the current playback position, the current position will be displayed in red in Step 4 and no copy will be created. The copy will not be saved if there is insufficient space available on the memory card. To prevent the camera from turning off unexpectedly, use a fully- charged battery when editing movies.
