Maintain and Monitor the Extender 51 AC1200 WiFi Range Extender Turn the NETGEAR Logo LED On or Off When you power on the extender, the NETGEAR logo LED lights white. You can change this setting to turn off the LED. To turn the NETGEAR logo LED on or off: 1. On a computer or WiFi device that is connected to the extender network, \ launch a web browser . 2. In the address field of your browser , enter www.mywifiext.net. 3. When prompted, enter your user name and password. 4. Click the Menu icon . The extender menu displays. 5. Select Settings > Other . The Other Settings page displays. The LED Logo section displays the LED status as on or of f. 6. Click the OFF or ON button. The NETGEAR logo LED turns off or on. Restart the Extender Remotely You can log in to the extender and restart it. When the extender restarts\ , all computers and WiFi devices that are connected to its WiFi network are automatically di\ sconnected. To restart the extender remotely: 1. On a computer or WiFi device that is connected to the extender network, \ launch a web browser . 2. In the address field of your browser , enter www.mywifiext.net. 3. When prompted, enter your user name and password. 4. Click the Menu icon . The extender menu displays. 5. Select Settings > Other . The Other Settings page displays. 6. Click the REST ART button and click the Ye s button to confirm. The extender restarts, which takes about two minutes.
52 6 6. Share a USB Storage Device This chapter describes how to access and configure a USB storage drive attached to your extender. The USB port on the extender can be used only to connect USB storage devices such as flash drives or hard drives, or a printer. Do not connect computers, USB modems, CD drives, or DVD drives to the extender USB port. Share a USB Storage Device 53 AC1200 WiFi Range Extender USB Storage Device Requirements The extender works with most USB-compliant external flash and hard drives. For the most up-to-date list of USB drives that the extender supports, visit http://kbserver.netgear.com/readyshare. Some USB external hard drives and flash drives require you to load the drivers onto the computer before the computer can access the USB device. Such USB devices do not work with the extender. The extender supports the following file system types for full read and write access: •FAT16, FAT32 •NTFS •NTFS with compression format enabled •Ext2 •Ext3 •Ext4 •HFS •HFS+ Note:Do not connect computers, USB modems, CD drives, or DVD drives to the extender USB port. Share Files Across Your WiFi Network You can share data that is stored on most common USB storage devices across your WiFi network with ReadySHARE® USB Storage Access. To access your USB device from a Windows computer: 1. Insert your USB device into the USB 3.0 port on the extender. 2. If your USB device includes a power supply, you must use it when you connect the USB device to the extender. When you connect the USB device to the extender USB port, it might take up to two minutes before it is ready for sharing. By default, the USB device is available to all computers on your local area network (LAN). 3. Select Start > Run. 4. Enter \ eadyshare in the dialog box and click the OK button. A page automatically opens and displays the files and folders on the device.

If your USB device includes a power supply, you must use it when you connect the USB device to the extender. When you connect the USB device to the extender USB port, it might take up to two minutes before it is ready for sharing. By default, the USB device is available to all computers on your local area network (LAN). 2. On a Mac that is connected to the network, launch Finder and select Go > Connect to Server. 3. In the Server Address field, enter smb://readyshare. 4. When prompted, select the Guest radio button. 5. Click the Connect button. A window automatically opens and displays the files and folders on the device. Access a USB Storage Device Attached to the Extender ReadySHARE lets you access and share a USB drive connected to the extender USB port. (If your USB drive uses special drivers, it is not compatible.) To connect a USB drive: 1. Insert your USB storage drive into the USB 3.0 port on the front of the extender. 2. If your USB drive uses a power supply, you must use it when you connect the USB drive to the extender. When you connect the USB drive to the extender USB port, it might take up to two minutes before it is ready for sharing. By default, the USB drive is available to all computers on your local area network (LAN). To access the USB drive from a Mac: 1. Select Go > Connect to Server. 2. In the Server Address field, type smb://readyshare as the server address. 3. Click the Connect button. 4. When prompted to enter your name and password, select the Guest radio button. 5. Connect your USB storage device to the USB port on the router. If your USB device uses a power supply, you must use it when you connect the USB device to the router . When you connect the USB device to the extender’s USB port, it might take up to two minutes before it is ready for sharing. By default, the USB drive is ava\ ilable to all computers on your local area network (LAN). 2. Select Start > Run . 3. Enter \ eadyshare in the dialog box. 4. Click the OK button. A window automatically opens and displays the USB Storage device. 5. Right-click the USB storage device and select Map network drive. The Map Network Drive page displays: 6. Select the drive letter to map to the network folder . 7. Click the Finish button. The USB device is mapped to the drive letter that you specified. 8. T o connect to the USB storage device as a different user, select the Connect using different credentials check box, click the Finish button, and do the following: a. T ype the user name and password. b. Click the OK button. The USB storage device is mapped to the drive letter that you specified.\ Turn the USB Port Off and On By default the USB port is on, but you can log in to the extender and tu\ rn it off and on. To turn the USB port off and on: 1. On a computer or WiFi device that is connected to the extender network, \ launch a web browser . 2. In the address field of your browser , enter www.mywifiext.net. 3. When prompted, enter your user name and password. 4. Click the Menu icon . The extender menu displays.

Add a Network Folder on a USB Drive You can add network folders on the USB storage device. To add a network folder: 1. On a computer or WiFi device that is connected to the extender network, \ launch a web browser . 2. In the address field of your browser , enter www.mywifiext.net . 3. When prompted, enter your user name and password. 4. Click the Menu icon . The extender menu displays. 5. Select Do More > USB Port. 6. In the Connected Devices section, click the Add Folder button. 7. Browse and select a folder on the USB device. 8. Click the SA VE button. Your settings are saved.

On a computer or WiFi device that is connected to the extender network, \ launch a web browser . 2. In the address field of your browser , enter www.mywifiext.net. 3. When prompted, enter your user name and password. 4. Click the Menu icon . The extender menu displays. 5. Select Do More > USB Port. 6. T o add a folder, in the Connected Devices section, click the Add Folder button. 7. Browse and select a folder on the USB device. 8. T o password-protect read access, in the Read Access menu, select Password On. 9. T o password-protect write access, in the Write Access menu, select Password On. 10. Click the SA VE button. Your settings are saved. Use the Extender USB Port to Share a Printer By default, the extender is set up to share content on the USB port so t\ hat you can connect a USB storage device. You can share a USB printer instead. To use the USB port to share a printer: 1. On a computer or WiFi device that is connected to the extender network, \ launch a web browser . 2. In the address field of your browser , enter www.mywifiext.net. 3. When prompted, enter your user name and password. 4. Click the Menu icon .

Use the Extender as a Media Server 60 AC1200 WiFi Range Extender Specify ReadyDLNA Media Server Settings By default, the extender functions as a ReadyDLNA media server, which lets you stream music and movies from an attached USB device to DLNA/UPnP AV-compliant media players, such as Xbox360, Playstation, and NETGEAR media players. To specify media server settings: 1. On a computer or WiFi device that is connected to the extender network, \ launch a web browser . 2. In the address field of your browser , enter www.mywifiext.net . 3. When prompted, enter your user name and password. 4. Click the Menu icon . The extender menu displays. 5. Select Do More > USB Port. By default, the Enable Media Server and Enable TiVo support check boxes are selected. This allows the extender to function as a media server and allows the ex\ tender to play media on your TiVo device. 6. T o change the name of the media server device, type a new name in the Network/Device Name field and click the Update button. 7. Leave the Content scan check box selected so that the extender automatically scans and detects media files that are added to the attached USB device.
