CAUTION To turn off main power, be sure to remove the plug from power outlet. The power outlet soc ket should be installed as near to the equipment as possib le, and should be easily accessible. Important Safeguards These safety instr uctions are to ensure the long lif e of y our projector and to pre vent fire and shoc k. Please read them carefully and heed all warnings. Installation • Do not place the projector in the following conditions: - on an unstable cart, stand, or table. - near water, baths, or damp rooms. - in direct sunlight, near heaters, or heat radiating appliances. - in a dusty, smoky or steamy environment. - on a sheet of paper or cloth, rugs or carpets. • If you wish to have the projector installed on the ceiling: - Do not attempt to install the projector yourself. - The projector m ust be installed b y qualified technicians in order to ensure proper oper ation and reduce the r isk of bodily injury. - In addition, the ceiling m ust be strong enough to suppor t the projector and the installation m ust be in accordance with any local building codes. - Please consult your dealer for more information. Important Information
iii WARNING • Do not co ver the lens with the lens cap or equiv alent while the projector is on. Doing so can lead to melting of the cap due to the heat emitted from the light output. • Do not place an y objects , which are easily aff ected b y heat, in front of the projector lens . Doing so could lead to the object melting from the heat that is emitted from the light output. Orientation and Fan Mode • Do not tilt the projector to the left or r ight. Doing so ma y result in malfunction. There is no limit on the tilt angle upward or downward. Select the appropriate option for [FAN MODE] according to the installation angle. • When changing the projector or ientation or installation angle , also change the [SETTING] option of [F AN MODE] accordingly. Failure to do so may cause product malfunction. (→ page 122, 123, 128) Fire and Shock Precautions • Ensure that there is sufficient v entilation and that v ents are unobstr ucted to pre vent the b uild-up of heat inside y our projector. Allow minimum spaces between your projector and a wall. (→ page v and vi) • Do not try to touch the v entilation outlet on the rear side of the cabinet as it can become heated while the projector is turned on and immediately after the projector is tur ned off . P arts of the projector ma y become tempor arily heated if the projector is tur ned off with the PO WER b utton or if the A C po wer supply is disconnected dur ing nor mal projector operation. Use caution when picking up the projector. • Prevent foreign objects such as paper clips and bits of paper from f alling into y our projector . Do not attempt to retr ieve any objects that might f all into y our projector . Do not inser t an y metal objects such as a wire or scre wdriver into y our projector. If something should f all into y our projector , disconnect it immediately and ha ve the object remo ved b y a qualified service personnel. • Do not place any objects on top of the projector. • Do not touch the power plug during a thunderstorm. Doing so can cause electrical shock or fire. • The projector is designed to oper ate on a po wer supply of 100-240V A C 50/60 Hz (PX750U2/PX700W2/ PX800X2)/200-240V AC 50/60Hz (PX750UG2/PX700WG2/PX800XG2). Ensure that y our po wer supply fits this requirement before attempting to use your projector. • Do not look into the lens while the projector is on. Serious damage to your eyes could result. • Keep any items (magnifying glass etc.) out of the light path of the projector . The light path being projected from the lens is extensive, theref ore an y kind of abnor mal objects that can redirect light coming out of the lens , can cause an unpredictable outcome such as a fire or injury to the eyes. • Do not place any objects, which are easily affected by heat, in front of a projector exhaust vent. Doing so could lead to the object melting or getting y our hands b urned from the heat that is emitted from the e xhaust. • Handle the power cord carefully. A damaged or frayed power cord can cause electric shock or fire. Important Information
iv - Do not use any power cord other than the one supplied with the projector. - Do not bend or tug the power cord excessively. - Do not place the power cord under the projector, or any heavy object. - Do not cover the power cord with other soft materials such as rugs. - Do not heat the power cord. - Do not handle the power plug with wet hands. • Turn off the projector , unplug the po wer cord and ha ve the projector ser viced b y a qualified ser vice personnel under the following conditions: - When the power cord or plug is damaged or frayed. - If liquid has been spilled into the projector, or if it has been exposed to rain or water. - If the projector does not operate normally when you follow the instructions described in this user’s manual. - If the projector has been dropped or the cabinet has been damaged. - If the projector exhibits a distinct change in performance, indicating a need for service. • Disconnect the power cord and any other cables before carrying the projector. • Turn off the projector and unplug the power cord before cleaning the cabinet or replacing the lamp. • Turn off the projector and unplug the power cord if the projector is not to be used for an extended period of time. • When using a LAN cable: For safety, do not connect to the connector for peripheral device wiring that might have excessive voltage. CAUTION • A minimum of tw o persons are required to carr y the projector . Otherwise the projector ma y tumb le or drop , caus- ing personal injury. • Keep hands away from the lens mounting portion while the lens shift is in operation. Failure to do so could result in hands being pinched by the moving lens. • Do not use the tilt-f oot f or pur poses other than or iginally intended. Misuses such as g ripping the tilt-f oot or hang- ing on the wall can cause damage to the projector. • Do not send the projector in the soft case b y parcel deliv ery ser vice or cargo shipment. The projector inside the soft case could be damaged. • Set [LAMP SELECT] and [LAMP INTER VAL MODE] if y ou contin ue to use the projector f or consecutiv e da ys. (From the menu, select [LAMP MODE] → [LAMP SELECT] and [LAMP INTERVAL MODE].) • Before using Direct P ower Off , be sure to allo w at least 20 minutes immediately after tur ning on the projector and starting to display an image. • Do not unplug the po wer cord from the w all outlet or projector when the projector is po wered on. Doing so can cause damage to the AC IN connector of the projector and (or) the prong plug of the power cord. To turn off the A C po wer supply when the projector is po wered on, use the projector's main po wer s witch or a power strip equipped with a switch and a breaker. • Do not tur n off the A C po wer f or 60 seconds after the lamp is tur ned on and while the PO WER indicator is b link- ing blue. Doing so could cause premature lamp failure. • Use of a wall outlet with a 20 A or more circuit breaker is recommended. Performing Lens Calibration After Installation of the Optional Lens Be sure to perf orm [CALIBRA TION] b y pressing and holding the ORIENT ATION/CALIBRATION b utton f or at least 2 seconds or by holding the CTL button and pressing the INFO/L-CALIB button on the remote control after installation or replacement of the lens. (→ page 125) Calibration corrects the adjustable zoom and focus range. The following lenses need calibration: • NP16FL, NP17ZL, NP18ZL, NP19ZL, NP20ZL, NP21ZL, NP31ZL Caution on Carrying the Projector/Handling the Optional Lens When shipping the projector with the lens , remo ve the lens bef ore shipping the projector . Alw ays attach the dust cap to the lens whene ver it is not mounted on the projector . The lens and the lens shift mechanism ma y encounter damage caused by improper handling during transportation. Important Information
v Remote Control Precautions • Handle the remote control carefully. • If the remote control gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. • Avoid excessive heat and humidity. • Do not short, heat, or take apart batteries. • Do not throw batteries into fire. • If you will not be using the remote control for a long time, remove the batteries. • Ensure that you have the batteries’ polarity (+/−) aligned correctly. • Do not use new and old batteries together, or use different types of batteries together. • Dispose of used batteries according to your local regulations. Note for US Residents The lamps in this product contain mercury. Please dispose according to Local, State or Federal Laws. Lamp and Color Wheel Replacement • Use the specified lamp for safety and performance. • To replace the lamp and the color wheel, follow all instructions provided on page 182 and 217 respectively. • Be sure to replace the lamp when the message [THE LAMP HAS REACHED THE END OF ITS USABLE LIFE. PLEASE REPLACE THE LAMP 1 (OR 2). USE THE SPECIFIED LAMP FOR SAFETY AND PERFORMANCE.] appears. If y ou contin ue to use the lamp after the lamp has reached the end of its usab le lif e, the lamp b ulb ma y shatter, and pieces of glass ma y be scattered in the lamp case . Do not touch them as the pieces of glass ma y cause injury. If this happens, contact your dealer for lamp replacement. A Lamp Characteristic The projector has a discharge lamp for special purposes as a light source. A lamp has a char acteristic that its br ightness g radually decreases with age . Also repeatedly tur ning the lamp on and off will increase the possibility of its lower brightness. The actual lamp life may vary depending upon the individual lamp, the environmental conditions and usage. CAUTION: • DO NOT T OUCH THE LAMP or THE COLOR WHEEL immediately after it has been used. It will be e xtremely hot. Turn the projector off and then disconnect the po wer cord. Allo w at least one hour f or the lamp to cool bef ore handling. • When removing the lamp from a ceiling-mounted projector, make sure that no one is under the projector. Glass fragments could fall if the lamp has been burned out. Clearance for Installing the Projector Allow ample clearance between the projector and its surroundings as shown below. Avoid installing the projector in a place where air movement from the HVAC is directed at the projector. Heated air from the HV AC can be tak en in b y the projector's intak e v ent. If this happens , the temper ature inside the projector will rise too high causing the over-temperature protector to automatically turn off the projectors power. Important Information

(3) Upward or downward projection: When using the projector in an upw ard projection angle , allo w 1 m/ 40 inches or g reater betw een the e xhaust v ent and the wall. When using the projector in a do wnward projection angle , allo w 70 cm/ 27.6 inches or g reater betw een the e xhaust vent and the wall. Important Information
vii About High Altitude mode • Set [FAN MODE] to [HIGH AL TITUDE] when using the projector at altitudes appro ximately 5500 f eet/1600 meters or higher. Using the projector at altitudes appro ximately 5500 f eet/1600 meters or higher without setting to [HIGH AL TITUDE] can cause the projector to o verheat and the protector could shut do wn. If this happens , w ait a couple min utes and turn on the projector. • Using the projector at altitudes less than appro ximately 5500 f eet/1600 meters and setting to [HIGH AL TITUDE] can cause the lamp to overcool, causing the image to flicker. Switch [FAN MODE] to [AUTO]. • Using the projector at altitudes appro ximately 5500 f eet/1600 meters or higher can shor ten the lif e of inter nal par ts such as the lamp.
