Regulatory Statements 1 Regulatory Statements for U.S. and Canada The following regulatory statements include the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Radio Frequency Interference Statement, the Note for Canada, battery disposal and replacement information, and the Declaration of Conformity. FCC Statement for United States Only Changes or modifications to this unit not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user’s authority to operate the equipment. Note This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses and radiates radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures. ! Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna. ! Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver. ! Connect the equipment to an outlet on a circuit different from the one to which the receiver is connected. Use shielded and properly grounded I/O cables and power cable to ensure compliance of this unit to the specified limits of the rules.
2 Regulatory Statements FCC PART 68 This equipment complies with Part 68 of the FCC rules. On the bottom of this equipment is a label that contains, among other information, the FCC registration number and ringer equivalence number (REN) for this equipment. If requested, this information must be provided to the telephone company. All applicable registration jack USCOs, any facility interface codes and service order codes associated with the service of the equipment must be connected. The REN is used to determine the quantity of devices that may be connected to the telephone line. Excessive RENs on the telephone line may result in the devices not ringing in response to an incoming call. In most, but not all areas, the sum of the RENs should not exceed five (5). To be certain of the number of devices that may be connected to the line, as determined by the total RENs contact the telephone company to determine the maximum REN for the calling area. If the MobilePro causes harm to the telephone network, the telephone company will notify you in advance that temporary termination of service may be required. But if advance notice isnt possible, the telephone company will notify the customer as soon as possible. Also, you will be advised of your right to file a complaint with the FCC if you believe it is necessary. The telephone company may make changes in its facilities, equipment, operations, or procedures that could affect the operation of the equipment. If this happens, the telephone company will advise you in advance to make the necessary modifications to maintain uninterrupted service. If you have trouble with the MobilePro, please contact NEC Solutions America Support Services at 1-800-632-4525 for repair and warranty information. If the trouble is impacting the telephone network, the telephone company may request you remove the equipment from the network until the problem is resolved. The equipment cannot be used with public coin telephones provided by the telephone company. Connection to Party Line Service is subject to state tariffs. (Contact the state public utility commission, public service commission or corporation commission for information.)
Regulatory Statements 3 The Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991 makes it unlawful for any person to use a computer or other electric device to send any message via a telephone fax machine unless such message clearly contains in a margin at the top or bottom of each transmitted page or on the first page of the transmission, the date and time it is sent and an identification of the business or other entity, or other individual sending the message and the telephone number of the sending machine or such business, other entity, or individual. In order to program this information into your MobilePro refer to the MobilePro FAX help files on the MobilePro desktop. If you are using a different communication software program, refer to its manual.
4 Regulatory Statements IC CS-03 Note The Industry Canada label identifies certified equipment. This certification means that the equipment meets telecommunications network protective, operational and safety requirements as prescribed in the appropriate Terminal Equipment Technical Requirements document. The Department does not guarantee the equipment will operate to the users satisfaction. Before installing this equipment, users should ensure that it is permissible to be connected to the facilities of the local telecommunications company. The equipment must also be installed using an acceptable method of connection. The customer should be aware that compliance with the above conditions may not prevent degradation of service in some situations. Repairs to certified equipment should be coordinated by a representative designated by the supplier. Any repairs or alterations made by the user to this equipment, or equipment malfunctions, may give the telecommunications company cause to request the user to disconnect the equipment. Users should ensure for their own protection that the electrical ground connections of the power utility, telephone lines and internal metallic water pipe system, if present, are connected together. This precaution may be particularly important in rural areas. Users should not attempt to make such connections themselves, but should contact the appropriate electric inspection authority, or electrician, as appropriate. Note The Ringer Equivalence Number (REN) assigned to each terminal device provides an indication of the maximum number of terminals allowed to be connected to a telephone interface. The termination on an interface may consist of any combination of devices subject only to the requirement that the sum of the Ringer Equivalence Number of all the devices does not exceed 5.
Regulatory Statements 5 Note for Canada This Class B digital apparatus meets all requirements of the Canadian Interference-Causing Equipment Regulations. Cet appareil numérique de la classe B repecte toutes les exigences du Règlement sur le matériel brouilleur du Canada. FCC WARNING Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the users authority to operate the equipment. Properly shielded and grounded cables and connectors must be used for connection to host computer and/or peripherals in order to meet FCC emission limits. AC adapter with ferrite core must be used for RF interference suppression. Battery Replacement A lithium battery in some computers maintains system configuration information. In the event that the battery fails to maintain system configuration information, NECSAM recommends that you replace the battery. See “Replacing the Backup Battery” in Appendix A for battery replacement information. There is a danger of explosion if the battery is incorrectly replaced. Replace only with the same or equivalent type recommended by the manufacturer. Discard used batteries according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Il y a danger d’explosion s’il y a replacement incorrect de la batterie. Remplacer uniquement avec une batterie du même type ou d’un type recommandé par le constructeur. Mettre au rébut les batteries usagées conformément aux instructions du fabricant.
6 Regulatory Statements Battery Disposal The main battery is a Lithium-Ion battery. The backup battery is a Lithium coin-cell battery. Do not place used batteries in your regular trash. The incineration, landfilling, or mixing of batteries with the municipal solid waste stream is prohibited by law in most areas. Contact your local waste management officials for other information regarding the environmentally sound collection, recycling, and disposal of used batteries. If you purchased or are using this computer outside of the U.S. or Canada, contact a local NEC dealer in your country.
