119Communication Chatting with Friends To chat with a friend 1. From the Home Screen, tap the Apps Key > Talk . 2. Tap the friend you want to chat with. 3. Enter your message then tap Send . More Options From the Friends list, tap the Menu Key for the following options: Display options, End all chats, Sign out, Settings, Help and Send feed back. To accept an invitation to chat When a friend sends you a Google Talk message, you will receive a notification. The friend’s name in the Friends list turns white and displays the message. Tap the name of the person in your Friends list. OR Open the Notifications panel then tap the chat notification. A chat window will open where you can exchange messages with your friend. To end a chat When you’ve finished your conversation, it’s easy to end a chat session. From a chat screen, tap the Menu Key > End chat.
120Communication Changing and Monitoring Online Status Google Talk allows you to change how you appear to others; you can change your online status and status messages, as well as the picture that appears next to your name on your friends’ list. To change your online status 1. From the Home Screen, tap the Apps Key > Talk . 2. Tap your email address at the top of your Friends list. 3. In the Set status screen that opens, tap your current status, then tap the new status you want to set. NOTE Tap the checkbox to indicate whether you are available for video/voice chat. 4. Tap the Back Key . Your status and any message you’ve entered appear in your Friends' lists and in other locations where your status or status message are displayed.
121Communication Status Icons Icons in Google Talk, Gmail, and other applications indicate the Google Talk status for you and your friends. Available: Signed into Google Talk and available to chat Away: Signed into Google Talk but not active Busy: Signed into Google Talk but too busy to chat Signed out of Google Talk Invisible: Signed into Google Talk but appear signed out to others Video Chat: Video chat is available Voice Chat: Voice chat is available Changing Google Talk Settings You can configure Google Talk to send you a notification with the contents of each message that you receive in a chat, and also to sound a ringtone or vibrate the phone. You can also configure Google Talk to sign you in automatically when you turn on your phone, and you can set whether the mobile indicator is displayed next to your name in other people’s Friends lists. To configure notifications for new Google Talk messages 1. From the Friends list, tap the Menu Key > Settings and select an account. 2. Checkmark Invitation notifications to receive a notification in the Status Bar when friend invitation(s) are received.
122Communication 3. Tap IM notifications and Video chat notifications to receive a notification in the Status Bar when a new chat message arrives. 4. Tap Notification ringtone and Video chat ringtone in the Text chat settings and Voice & video chat settings sections to open a list of the ringtones that will ring to notify you of a new chat. 5. Tap Vibrate in the Text chat settings and Voice & video chat settings sections to choose the vibration setting when you receive notification of a new chat. To show or hide the mobile indicator to friends 1. From the Friends list, tap the Menu Key > Settings. 2. Checkmark Mobile indicator (or remove the checkmark). If Mobile indicator is checkmarked, your friends see an outline of an Android™ next to your name in their Friends list when you’re signed into Google Talk on an Android phone. To set Google Talk to change your status 1. From the Friends list, tap the Menu Key > Settings. 2. Checkmark Away when screen off (or remove the checkmark). When Away when screen off is checkmarked, your status will automatically be changed to Away when the screen is turned off.
123Communication The Phone Application The phone features of your device include many ways to make calls. Tap the Home Key and then the Phone Key in the Quick Keys bar at the bottom of the screen. The Phone application has four tabs across the top of the screen: Dial, Call logs, Contacts, and Favorites. Using these tabs, you can dial manually or make calls automatically from information you’ve stored in your phone. Dial This tab allows you to dial a phone number manually using the dial keypad. You can also call voicemail or call with the Voice dial feature using this keypad and even use the voice dialing feature. Call logs This tab displays the history of all of your calls. From here you can call or contact any of the entries. To delete an entry, tap and hold the entry and then tap Clear all logs of this number in the Context menu that appears, then tap OK. To delete your complete Call log, tap the Menu Key > Clear all > OK. NOTE You can also selectively delete entries from the Call log. Tap the Menu Key > Clear > tap the checkboxes to the left of the entries to delete > Clear > OK. Contacts This tab displays your Contacts list. From here you can call or contact any of the entries based on the saved information or manage your Contacts list. Tap the Menu Key to open an Options menu to select Delete, Share, Send message, Send email, Speed dials, Display options, and Call settings.
124Communication Favorites This tab displays your Favorites, followed by a list of recent frequent contact. From here you can call or contact any of the entries based on the saved information or manage your list. For additional options, tap the Menu Key to open an Options menu to select Speed dials and Call settings. Frequent list The Favorites tab generates a list of the phone numbers called most frequently from your phone. This dialing shortcut list is displayed below the Dial tab. Voice Dialer Call a Contact by Voice Dialing You can call numbers directly by saying the contact’s name or number. 1. From the Home Screen, tap the Apps Key > Voice Dialer . 2. Say "Call" or "Dial" then a name or a phone number. Or, you can say "Redial" to redial the last number dialed. 3. If a list of results is displayed, tap the one you want to use. NOTE You can also access this feature by tapping the Voice Dialer Key on the Phone application dial pad. Open an Application using Voice Dialer 1. From the Home Screen, tap the Apps Key > Voice Dialer . 2. Say "Open" and then an application name. 3. If a list of results is displayed, tap the one you want to use. The device o pens the corresponding application.
125Entertainment Camera To open the Camera application, from the Home Screen, tap the Apps Key > Camera . TIP If you haven't locked your phone with a security lock sequence, from the locked screen, simply press the Power/Lock Key , then drag the Camera icon upward. Getting to know the viewfinder Brightness – Defines and controls of the amount of light entering the lens. Slide the brightness indicator along the bar toward “-” for a lower brightness image or toward “+” for a higher brightness image. Mode Switch – Allows you to switch between Camera mode and Video mode. Capture – Tap to take a photo. Gallery – Accesses your saved photos from within Camera mode. Simply tap this icon and your Gallery will appear on the screen. Zoom – Zoom in or zoom out. The Volume Keys will also adjust the zoom. Settings – Opens the Camera settings menu. See “Photo options”. Flash – Allows you to set the Flash Auto, Off, or On.Swap Camera – Allows you to swap between the back camera and the front-facing camera. NOTE The default resolution is 5M (2560x1920). Photo options You can make adjustments to optimize your shot. The following options are available when you tap Settings on the viewfinder screen: Focus : Allows you to change the Focus mode to Auto or Face tracking. Cheese shutter : Allows you to turn this function on and say ‘Cheese’ to take pictures. Image size : Allows you to change the image size to 5M(2560x1920), 3M(2048x1536), W3M(2240x1344), 2M(1600x1200), 1M(1280x960), W1M(1280x768), VGA(640x480), or QVGA(320x240). Scene mode : Adjusts for better image capture in different environments. Choose from Normal, Portrait, Landscape, Sports, Sunset, and Night.
126Entertainment ISO : Controls the camera’s sensitivity to light. Choose from Auto, 400, 200 and 100. White balance : Improves color qualities under different lighting conditions. Choose from Auto, Incandescent, Sunny, Fluorescent, and Cloudy. Color effect : Applies artistic effects to pictures. Choose from None, Mono, Sepia and Negative. Timer : Allows you to set a delay timer for the camera. This is ideal if you want to be in the picture. Choose from Off, 3 sec, 5 sec, or 10 sec. Shot mode : Allows you to select the Shot mode for the picture. Choose from Normal, Panorama, or Continuous shot. Tag location : Allows you to add location information to the picture. This is ideal for geotagging purposes. Choose from Off or On. Sutter sound : Allows you to select the Shutter sound for the Camera. Choose from Off, Tone 1, Tone 2, Tone 3, or Tone 4. Auto review : Allows you to briefly view the picture after taking it. Choose from Off, On, 2 sec, or 5 sec. Storage : Allows you to select where to store your pictures. Choose from SD card or Internal memory. Reset : Allows you to reset to default value. TIP You can close all of the setting icons to give a clearer viewfinder screen. Just tap the center of the viewfinder once. To recall the options, tap the screen again. Using the focus mode You can select from the following focus options: Auto sets the camera to focus automatically on the object you tap on the screen before tapping Capture . Face tracking sets the camera to automatically detect and focus on human faces. When Face tracking is set, tapping the screen does not activate the focus box.
127Entertainment Taking a quick photo 1. Open the Camera application. 2. Holding the phone horizontally, point the lens toward the subject you want to photograph. 3. Tap the subject on the screen and a focus box will appear in the viewfinder. 4. When the focus box turns green, the camera has focused on your subject. 5. Tap Capture to take the picture. Once you’ve taken the photo If Auto review is set to On, your captured photo will appear on the screen until you tap an option or icon to proceed. NOTE Simply tap the screen to redisplay photo options if they recede from the screen. The following options are available after taking a photo if Auto review is set to On. NOTE If Auto review is set to Off, these options can be accessed while viewing the photo in the Gallery application. Tap to share your photo using Backup Assistant+ , Bluetooth , Email , Gmail , Google+ , Messaging , Picasa , Richnote , Social+ or any other application you’ve downloaded that supports this feature. Tap to use the image as a Contact photo, Lockscreen Wallpaper, or Wallpaper. Tap to delete the image, then tap OK to confirm. Tap to take another photo immediately. Your current photo will be saved to your Gallery. Tap to view the Gallery of your saved photos.
128Entertainment Viewing your saved photos You can access your saved photos from Camera mode. Just tap the image thumbnail at the bottom right corner of the Camera screen. TIP Slide your finger left or right to view other photos or videos. While viewing a photo, tap the screen to access the following options: SmartShare Touch to share the photo using SmartShare (turn on Wi-Fi if it’s not already on). Camera Touch to take a photo, or record a video. Share Tap to open a dialog box to select which application to use to share the photo. Delete Tap to delete the photo, then tap OK. Tapping the Menu Key displays the following options: Set image as Tap to set the photo as the icon identifying a contact or set it as your phone or lockscreen wallpaper. Move Tap to move the image file to another folder. Rename Tap to open the keyboard to rename the photo for easy identification. Rotate left Tap to rotate the photo counter-clockwise. Rotate right Tap to rotate the photo clockwise. Crop Tap to open a cropping box tool that allows you to manually crop the photo. Use your finger to move or resize the cropping box to encompass only the part of the photo you want to see, then tap Save. Edit Tap to edit the image. Slideshow Tap to see your photos played in a slideshow. Details Tap to display information about the photo (e.g., file type, file size, etc.).
