VOL (Volume) (+/-) : Adjusts speaker volume. LG EQ : Selects a Natural or Local Specialization equalizer effect by using LG EQ. EQ (EQUALIZER effect) : Chooses sound impressions. CLEAR : Removes a track number on the Program List. (LG TV only) Controlling the TV You can control the sound level, input source, and power switching of LG TVs as well. 1Installation Installation 3 Connecting the speakers Attaching the speakers to the unit Connect the wires hooked up to the speaker to the unit. To connect the cable to the unit, press each plastic finger pad to open the connection terminals on the unit. Insert the wire and release the finger pad. Connect the black end of each wire to the terminals marked - (minus) and the other end to the terminals marked + (plus). Speaker connection CAUTION Be careful to make sure children do not put their hands or any objects into the *speaker duct.*Speaker duct : A hole for plentiful bass sound on speaker cabinet (enclosure). Positioning the System The following illustration shows an example of positioning the system. Note that the illustrations in these instructions differ from the actual unit for explanation purposes. For the best possible surround sound, all the speakers other than the subwoofer should be placed at the same distance from the listening position (A). A Front left speaker (L)/ B Front right speaker (R): Place the front speakers to the sides of the monitor or screen and as flush with the screen surface as possible. C Center speaker: Place the center speaker above or below the monitor or screen. D Surround left speaker (L)/ E Surround right speaker (R): Place these speakers behind your listening position, facing slightly inwards. F Subwoofer: The position of the subwoofer is not so critical, because low bass sounds are not highly directional. But it is better to place the subwoofer near the front speakers. 1Installation Installation 3 Speaker Positioning A B D E F AAA A A GC NOTE If the picture on nearby TV sets becomes magnetically distorted, keep the speaker away from your TV Connections to Your TV Make one of the following connections, depending on the capabilities of your existing equipment. NOTE • Depending on your TV and other equipment you wish to connect, there are various ways you could connect the player. Use only one of the connections described in this manual. • Please refer to the manuals of your TV, Stereo System or other devices as necessary to make the best connections. CAUTION • Make sure the unit is connected directly to the TV. Tune the TV to the correct video input channel. • Do not connect your unit via your VCR. The image could be distorted by the copy Component Video Connection Connect the COMPONENT VIDEO (PROGRESSIVE SCAN) OUTPUT jacks on the unit to the corresponding input jacks on the TV using Y Pb Pr cables. You can hear the sound through the system’s speakers. Component Video Connection NOTE If your TV accepts progressive format signals, you must use this connection and set [Progressive Scan] in [Display] setup to [On] (See page 17). 1Installation Installation 3 Video Connection Connect the VIDEO OUT (MONITOR) jack on the unit to the video in jack on the TV using a video cable. You can hear the sound through the system’s speakers. Video Connection Optional Equipment Connection AUX IN Connection Connect an Output of auxiliary device to the AUX Input (L/R) Connector. If your TV has only one output for audio (mono), connect it to the left (white) audio jack on the unit. AUX IN Connection AUDIO IN (Portable IN) Connection Connect an OUTPUT of portable device (MP3 or PMP etc) to the P. IN connector. AUDIO IN Connection MP3 player, etc... 1Installation Installation 3 USB Connection Connect the USB port of USB Memory (or MP3 player, etc.) to the USB port on the front of the unit. USB Connection Removing the USB Device from the unit 1. Choose a different function mode or press STOP (x) twice in a row. 2. Remove the USB device from the unit. Antenna Connection Connect the supplied FM/AM antenna for listening to the radio. Connect the AM Loop antenna to the AM antenna connector. Connect the FM Wire antenna to the FM antenna connector. Antenna Connection NOTE To prevent noise pickup, keep the AM Loop antenna away from the unit and other components.Be sure to fully extend the FM wire antenna.After connecting the FM wire antenna, keep it as horizontal as possible. 1Installation Installation 3 Adjust the Setup settings By using the Setup menu, you can make various adjustments to items such as picture and sound. You can also set a language for the subtitles and the Setup menu, among other things. For details on each Setup menu item, see pages 16 to 19. OSD Initial language settings: During the first use of this unit, the initial language setup menu appears on your TV screen. You must complete initial language selection before using the unit. English will be selected as the initial language. 1. Press POWER to turn the unit on. The language setup menu will appear on the screen. 2. Use U u I i to select a language then press ENTER. The confirm menu will appear. 3. Use I i to select the [Enter] then press ENTER to finish the language setup. To display and exit the Setup Menu 1. Select the DVD/CD or USB function by pressing FUNCTION. 2. Press SETUP. Displays the [SETUP] Menu. 3. Press SETUP or RETURN to exit in the [SETUP] Menu. ENTERTo confirm menu. LANGUAGE Menu Language Select a language for the Setup menu and then on screen display. Disc Audio / Disc Subtitle / Disc Menu Select the language you prefer for the audio track (disc audio), subtitles, and the disc menu. 1Installation Installation 3 Other – To select another language, press numeric buttons and then ENTER to enter the corresponding 4-digit number according to the language code list on the page 29. If you enter the wrong language code, press CLEAR. Off (for Disc Subtitle) – Turn off Subtitle. DISPLAY TV Aspect Select which screen aspect to use based on the shape of your TV screen. 4:3 – Select when a standard 4:3 TV is connected. 16:9 – Select when a 16:9 wide TV is connected. Display Mode The Display Mode setting works only when the TV Aspect mode is set to 4:3. Letterbox – Displays a wide picture with bands on the upper and lower portions of the screen. Panscan – Automatically displays the wide picture on the entire screen and cuts off the portions that do not fit. (If the disc/file is not compatible with Pan Scan, the picture is displayed at Letterbox ratio.) Progressive Scan (For Component Video connections) Selects whether the COMPONENT VIDEO(PROGRESSIVE SCAN) OUTPUT jacks output progressive signal. If your TV accepts progressive format signals, you will enjoy accurate color reproduction and high quality image by selecting [On]. If your TV does not accept progressive format signals, select [Off ]. If you set Progressive Scan to [On] in error, you must reset the unit. First, remove the disc in the unit. Next, press and hold STOP for five seconds. The video output will be restored to the standard setting, and a picture will be visible on your TV. AUDIO DRC (Dynamic Range Control) Make the sound clear when the volume is turned down (Dolby Digital only). Set to [On] for this effect. Vocal Select [On] to mix karaoke channels into normal stereo. This function is effective for multi-channel karaoke DVDs only. Semi Karaoke When a chapter/ title/ track is fully finished, this function shows the score in the screen with a fanfare sound. On – When you finished singing a score will appear on the screen. Off – Fanfare and score do not appears on the screen. NOTE • DVD, DVD Karaoke discs with more than 2 tracks are available discs for the this function. • When you watch movies, “off ” the Semi Karaoke at the SETUP menu or enjoy it without connecting the MIC if the fanfare or score appears during changing a chapter. 1Installation Installation 3 5.1 Speaker Setup Make the following settings for the built-in 5.1 channel surrounds decoder. 1. Press SETUP. 2. Use U u to select AUDIO menu and then press i. 3. Use U u to select [5.1 Speaker setup] menu and then press i. 4. Press ENTER The [5.1 Speaker setup] appears. 5. Use I i to select the desired speaker. 6. Adjust options using U u I i buttons. 7. Press RETURN to confirm your selection. Return to the previous menu. Speaker selection Select a speaker that you want to adjust. NOTE Certain speaker settings are prohibited by the Dolby Digital licensing agreement. Size – Since the speaker settings are fixed, you cannot change the settings. Volume – Press I i to adjust the output level of the selected speaker. Distance – After you connected speakers to your unit, set the Distance between the speakers and your listening point if the distance of Center or Rear speakers is bigger than the distance of Front speakers. This allows the sound from each speaker to reach the listener at the same time. Press I i to adjust the Distance of the selected speaker. This distance is equivalent to a difference of the distance between Center or Rear speaker and Front speakers. Test – Press I i to test the signals of each speaker. Adjust the volume to match the volume of test signals memorized in the system. LOCK (Parental Control) Initial Setting the Area Code: When you use this unit for the first time, you have to set the Area Code. 1. Select the [LOCK] menu and then press i. 2. Press i. To access the [LOCK] options, you must input the password you have created. Input a password and press ENTER. Enter it again and press ENTER to verify. If you make a mistake before pressing ENTER, press CLEAR. 3. Select the first character using U u buttons. 4. Press ENTER and select the second character using U u buttons. 5. 1Installation Installation 3 Rating Blocks playback of rated DVDs based on their contents. Not all discs are rated. 1. Select [Rating] on the [LOCK] menu then press i. 2. Input a password and press ENTER. 3. Select a rating from 1 to 8 using the U u buttons. Rating 1-8 – Rating one (1) has the most restrictions and rating eight (8) is the least restrictive. Unlock – If you select unlock, parental control is not active and the disc plays in full. 4. Press ENTER to confirm your rating selection. Password You can enter or change password. 1. Select [Password] on the [LOCK] menu and then press i. 2. Input a password and press ENTER. To change the password, press ENTER when the [Change] option is highlighted. Input a password and press ENTER. Enter it again and press ENTER to verify. 3. Press SETUP to exit the menu. NOTE If you forget your password, you can clear it using the following steps: 1. Press SETUP to display the Setup menu. 2. Input the 6-digit number “210499” and press ENTER. The password is cleared. Area Code Enter the code of the area whose standards were used to rate the DVD video disc, based on the list on page 30. 1. Select [Area Code] on the [LOCK] menu then press i. 2. Input a password and press ENTER. 3. Select the first character using U u buttons. 4. Press ENTER and select the second character using U u buttons. 5. Press ENTER to confirm your Area code selection. OTHERS DivX(R) VOD We provide you with the DivX® VOD ( Video On Demand) registration code that allows you to rent and purchase videos using the DivX® VOD service. For more information, visit www.divx.com/vod. Press ENTER when [DivX(R) VOD] is highlighted and you can view the registration code of the unit. 0Operation Operation 4 Basic Operations 1. Insert the disc by using the OPEN/CLOSE or connect the USB device to the USB port. 2. Select the DVD/CD or USB function by pressing FUNCTION. 3. Select a file (or track/ title) you want to play by pressing U u I i. . NOTE When playing a disc or USB Flash Drive containing with DivX, MP3/ WMA and JPEG files together, you can select menu of files which you would like to play by pressing MENU. If “ This file has non-supported type on the unit” pops up, select an appropriate file by pressing MENU. Skipping to the next/ previous chapter/ track/ file During playback, press . or > to go to the next chapter/track or to return to the beginning of the current chapter/track. Press . twice briefly to step back to the previous chapter/track. Locating a point quickly by playing a file in fast forward or fast reverse During playback, press bb or BB repeatedly to select the required scan speed. To return to normal speed, press PLAY. Playing repeatedly or randomly Press REPEAT/RANDOM repeatedly, and the current title, chapter or track will be played back repeatedly or randomly. - Random play mode : only music files.
