111 ENGENGLISH MAKING CONNECTIONS MAKING CONNECTIONS Connect various external devices to the TV and switch input modes to select an external device. For more information on external device’s connection, refer to the manual provided with each device. Available external devices are: HD receivers, DVD players, VCRs, audio systems, USB storage devices, PC, gaming devices, and other external devices. yyIf you record a TV programme on a DVD recorder or VCR, make sure to connect the TV signal input cable to the TV through a DVD recorder or VCR. For more information on recording, refer to the manual provided with the connected device. y y The external device connection may differ from the model. y y Connect external devices to the TV regardless of the order of the TV port. 113 ENGENGLISH MAKING CONNECTIONS DVI to HDMI Connection Transmits the digital video signal from an external device to the TV. Connect the external device and the TV with the DVI-HDMI cable as shown in the following illustration. To transmit an audio signal, connect an audio cable. Connecting to a H D r eceiver, DVD, or VCR player Connect a HD receiver, DVD, or VCR player to the TV and select an appropriate input mode. HDMI Connection Transmits the digital video and audio signals from an external device to the TV. Connect the external device and the TV with the HDMI cable as shown in the following illustration. yyUse the latest High Speed HDMI™ Cable with CEC (Customer Electronics Control) function. y y High Speed HDMI™ Cables are tested to carry an HD signal up to 1080p and higher. 114 ENGENGLISH MAKING CONNECTIONS Euro Scart Connection Transmits the video and audio signals from an external device to the TV set. Connect the external device and the TV set with the Euro Scart cable as shown on the following illustration. To display im- ages by using progressive scan, make sure to use the Euro Scart cable. yy Any Euro scart cable used must be signal shielded. y y When watching digital TV in 3D imaging mode, monitor out signals cannot be output through the SCART cable. (Only 3D models) y y If you set the 3D mode to On while a scheduled recording is performed on digital TV, monitor out signals cannot be output through the SCART cable, and the recording cannot be performed. (Only 3D models) NOTE yy If cables are installed incorrectly, it could case the image to display in black and white or with distorted colour. Check to ensure the cable are matched with the corresponding colour connection. NOTE Component Connection Transmits the analogue video and audio signals from an external device to the TV. Connect the external device and the TV with the component cable as shown in the following illustration. Connect the external device and the TV with the composite cable as shown in the following illustration. yyIf you have a mono VCR, connect the audio cable from the VCR to the AUDIO L/MONO jack of the TV. NOTE Connecting to a PC yy It is recommended to use the TV set with the HDMI connection for the best image quality. NOTE

Connect the PC and the TV with the DVI- HDMI cable as shown in the following illustration. To transmit an audio signal, connect an audio cable. HDMI Connection Transmits the digital video and audio signals from your PC to the TV. Connect the PC and the TV with the HDMI cable as shown in the following illustrations.
117 ENGENGLISH MAKING CONNECTIONS RGB Connection Transmits the analogue video signal from your PC to the TV. Connect the PC and the TV with the supplied D-sub 15 pin signal cable as shown in the following illustrations. To transmit an audio signal, connect an audio cable.yy There may be interference relating to resolution, vertical pattern, contrast or brightness in PC mode. Change the PC mode to another resolution or change the refresh rate to another rate or adjust the brightness and contrast on the menu until the picture is clear. If the refresh rate of the PC graphic card can not be changed, change the PC graphic card or consult the manufacturer of the PC graphic card. y y The synchronization input waveform for Horizontal and Vertical frequencies are separate. y y We recommend using 1920x1080, 60 Hz for the PC mode, this should provide the best picture quality. y y Connect the signal cable from the monitor output port of the PC to the RGB (PC) port of the TV or the signal cable from the HDMI output port of the PC to the HDMI IN (or HDMI/DVI IN) port on the TV. y y Connect the audio cable from the PC to the Audio input on the TV. (Audio cables are not included with the TV). y y If using a sound card, adjust PC sound as required. y y If the graphic card on the PC does not output analogue and digital RGB simultaneously, connect only one of either RGB or HDMI IN (or HDMI/DVI IN) to display the PC output on the TV. y y DOS mode may not work depending on the video card if you use an HDMI to DVI cable. y y If you use too long an RGB-PC cable, there may be interference on the screen. We recommend using under 5m of cable. This provides the best picture quality. NOTE
118 ENGENGLISH MAKING CONNECTIONS Connecting to a n A udio System Use an external audio system instead of the built- in speaker. yyIf you use an external audio device instead of the built-in speaker, set the TV speaker feature to off. ( See p.101) NOTE Digital Optical Audio Connection Transmits the digital audio signal from the TV to an external device. Connect the external device and the TV with the optical audio cable as shown in the following illustration. Connecting to H eadphone Connection (Depending on model) Listen to the sound through a headphone. yyAUDIO menu items are disabled when connecting a headphone. y y When changing AV MODE with a headphone connected, the change is applied to video but not to audio. y y Optical Digital Audio Out is not available when connecting a headphone. y y Headphone impedance: 16 yyMax audio output of headphone: 10 mW to 15 mW y y Headphone jack size: 0.35 cm NOTE yy Do not look into the optical output port. Looking at the laser beam may damage your vision. CAUTION
119 ENGENGLISH MAKING CONNECTIONS Connecting to a USB Connect a USB storage device such as s USB flash memory, external hard drive or a USB memory card reader to the TV and access the Smart Share menu to use various multimedia files. See “Connecting USB storage devices” and see “Browsing files”. Connecting to a CI Module View the encrypted (pay) services in digital TV mode. This feature is not available in all countries. (See p.38). Check this point as shown and insert the CI Module. yyCheck if the CI module is inserted into the PCMCIA card slot in the right direction. If the module is not inserted properly, this can cause damage to the TV and the PCMCIA card slot. NOTE or
120 ENGENGLISH MAKING CONNECTIONS Connecting the Wireless Media Box (Depending on model) LG TVs with a Wireless Control port support the LG Wireless Media Box, which is sold separately. When you connect the Wireless Ready Dongle (included with the Wireless Media Box) to the TV, external devices can be connected to the LG Wireless Media Box and video and audio will be sent to the TV wirelessly. Refer to the Wireless Media Box manual for operating instructions. yyWhen using the external device connected to the Wireless Media Box, some functions of the TV menu may not work. NOTE LG Wireless Media Box SIMPLINK Connection Play and control the AV device connected with the HDMI cable through HDMI-CEC. This TV may work with the devices that support HDMI-CEC, but only devices with the logo are fully sup- ported. Connect one end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI/ DVI IN or HDMI IN terminal on the rear of the TV and the other end to the SIMPLINK device. yy If the connected device does not support HDMI-CEC, the SIMPLINK feature is unavailable. y y To operate SIMPLINK, an High Speed HDMI Cable with *CEC function should be used. (*CEC: Consumer Electronics Control). y y SIMPLINK may not work properly if you a third-party device that has an HDMI-CEC function. y y In wireless external output, SIMPLINK function is not supported.
