To enable Resource Save after receiving this message, make sure the link buffers are set to Auto, and then exit the menus to activate the link buffer changes. Delete fonts, macros, and other data in printer memory. 80 Routine maintenance needed The printer needs to have routine maintenance done. Order a maintenance kit, which contains all the items necessary to replace the pick rollers, the charge roll, the transfer roller, and the fuser. 88 Cartridge low The toner is low. Replace the print cartridge, and then press to clear the message and continue printing. 88.yy Cartridge nearly low The toner is low. Replace the print cartridge, and then press to clear the message and continue printing. 88.yy Replace cartridge The print cartridge is exhausted. 1Replace the print cartridge. 2Press to clear the message. 200–282 Paper jam 1Clear the paper path. 2After clearing the paper path, press to continue printing. 1565 Emulation error, load emulation option The printer automatically clears the message in 30 seconds and then disables the download emulator on the firmware card. Maintaining the printer Periodically, certain tasks are required to maintain optimum print quality. Cleaning the exterior of the printer 1Make sure that the printer is turned off and unplugged from the wall outlet. CAUTION—SHOCK HAZARD: To avoid the risk of electric shock when cleaning the exterior of the printer, unplug the power cord from the wall outlet and disconnect all cables to the printer before proceeding. 2Remove paper from the standard exit bin. 3Dampen a clean, lint‑free cloth with water. Warning—Potential Damage: Do not use household cleaners or detergents, as they may damage the finish of the printer. 4Wipe only the outside of the printer, making sure to include the standard exit bin. Warning—Potential Damage: Using a damp cloth to clean the interior may cause damage to your printer. 5Make sure the paper support and standard exit bin are dry before beginning a new print job. Storing supplies Choose a cool, clean storage area for the printer supplies. Store supplies right side up in their original packing until you are ready to use them. Do not expose supplies to: Direct sunlight Temperatures above 35°C (95°F) High humidity above 80% Salty air Corrosive gases Heavy dust Conserving supplies There are some settings you can change from the printer control panel that will help you conserve toner and paper. For more information, see “Supplies menu,” “Quality menu,” and “Finishing menu.” If you need to print several copies, you can conserve supplies by printing the first copy and checking it for accuracy before printing the remaining copies. Checking the status of supplies A message appears on the display when a replacement supply item is needed or when maintenance is required. Checking the status of supplies from the printer control panel 1Make sure the printer is on and Ready appears. 2From the printer control panel, press the arrow buttons until Status/Supplies appears, and then press . 3Press the arrow buttons until View supplies appears, and then press . The status of each supply appears. Checking the status of supplies from a network computer Note: The computer must be connected to the same network as the printer. 1Type the printer IP address into the address field of your Web browser. Note: If you do not know the IP address of the printer, print a network setup page and locate the IP address in the TCP/IP section. 2Click Device Status. The Device Status page appears, displaying a summary of supply levels. Ordering print cartridges When 88 Cartridge low appears or when the print becomes faded: 1Remove the print cartridge. 2Firmly shake the cartridge side‑to‑side and front‑to‑back several times to redistribute toner. 3Reinsert the cartridge and continue printing.
