Maintaining the printer
Periodically, certain tasks are required to maintain optimum print quality.
Cleaning the exterior of the printer
1Make sure that the printer is turned off and unplugged from the wall outlet.
CAUTION—SHOCK HAZARD: To avoid the risk of electric shock when cleaning the exterior of the printer,
unplug the power cord from the wall outlet and disconnect all cables to the printer before proceeding.
2Remove all paper from the printer.

Ordering a photoconductor kit
Depending on your printer model, the printer issues a message or a light sequence to let you know the photoconductor
kit is near its end of life. At this time, order a photoconductor kit. You can also see the status of the photoconductor
kit by printing a network setup page.

To replace the toner cartridge:
1Open the front door by pressing the button on the left side of the printer and lowering the door.
2Press the button on the base of the photoconductor kit, and then pull the toner cartridge out using the handle.
3Unpack the new toner cartridge.
Warning—Potential Damage: When replacing a toner cartridge, do not leave the new cartridge exposed to direct
light for an extended period of time. Extended light exposure can cause print quality problems.

5Install the new toner cartridge by aligning the rollers on the toner cartridge with the arrows on the tracks of the
photoconductor kit. Push the toner cartridge in until it clicks into place.
6Close the front door.

When any of the light sequences occur, order a new photoconductor kit. While the printer may continue to function
properly after the photoconductor kit has reached its official end-of-life, print quality significantly decreases.
Note: The photoconductor kit is a single item.
To replace the photoconductor kit:
1Turn off the printer.
2Pull the photoconductor kit and toner cartridge together as a unit out of the printer by pulling on the toner cartridge...

Place the unit on a flat, clean surface.
3Press the button on the base of the photoconductor kit, and then pull the toner cartridge up and out using the
handle.
4Unpack the new photoconductor kit.
Warning—Potential Damage: Be careful not to touch the photoconductor drum. Doing so may affect the print
quality of future print jobs.
5Insert the toner cartridge into the photoconductor kit by aligning the rollers on the toner cartridge with the tracks.
