3-4 Manual image setup If automatic image setup does not establish the image that you prefer, perform manual image setup. Note: Have your monitor powered on for about 15 minutes, until the monitor warms up. 1. Press at the bottom of the monitor to open the OSD menu. 2. Use or to select and press to access. 3. Use or to select Clock and Phase adjustment. • Clock (pixel frequency) adjusts the nu mber of pixels scanned by one horizontal sweep. If the frequency is not correct, the screen shows vertical stripes and the picture does not have the correct width. • Phase adjusts the phase of the pixel clock signal. With a wrong phase adjustment, the picture has horizont al disturbances in light picture. 4. When the image no longer looks distorte d, save the Clock and Phase adjustments. 5. Press to leave the OSD menu. The power indicator is green, but there is no image. The video signal cable is loose or disconnected from the system or monitor. Be sure the video cable is connected with the system properly. “Connecting and turning on your monitor” on page 1-3 The monitor brightness and contrast are at the lowest setting. Adjust the brightness and contrast setting on the OSD menu. “Adjusting your monitor image” on page 2-3 One or more of the pixels appear discolored This is a characteristic of the LCD technology and is not an LCD defect. Chapter 3. 3-5 Manually installing the monitor driver 8 ®Below are steps for manually installing the monitor driver in Microsoft® Windows ®®XP Microsoft Windows Vista Microsoft Windows 7 . Please see the Install Driver section of the Reference and Driver CD for automatic installation. Installing the monitor driver in Windows 7 To use the Plug and Play feature Microsoft Windows 7, do the following: Note: You must download file from the Lenovo Monitor CD to use the Plug and Play feature in Windows 7. 1. Turn off the computer and all attached devices. 2. Ensure that the monitor is connected correctly. 3. Turn on the monitor and then the system unit. Allow your computer to start the Windows 7 operating system. 4. Open the Display Properties window by clicking Start, Control Panel and Hardware and Sound icon. 5. Click the Appearance and Personalization icon. 6.Click the Display icon. 7. Click the change display Settings button. 8. Click the Advanced Settings button. 9Click the Monitor tab. . 10Click the Properties button.. 11. Click the Driver tab. 12. Open the "Update Driver Software-Generic PnP Monitor" window by clicking on Update Driver and then click the "Browse my computer for driver software" button. 13. Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer". 14. Click the Have Disk button. Click on the Browse button and navigate to the following directory: X:\Monitor Drivers\Windows 7 (where X is the drive letter designator for the CD-ROM drive). 15. Select the " .inf" file and click the Open button. Click the OK button. 16. Select and click Next. The files will be copied from the CD to your hard disk drive. 17. Close all open windows and remove the CD. 18. Restart the system. The system will automatically select the maximum refresh rate and corresponding Color Matching Profiles. Ensure that the monitor is connected correctly. 3. Turn on the monitor and then the system unit. Allow the system to boot into Wi n d ow s X P. 4. Open the Display Properties window by clicking Start J Settings J Control Panel , and then double-clicking the Display icon. 5. Click the Settings tab. 6. Click the Advanced button. 7. Click the Monitor tab. 8. Click the Properties button. 9. Click the Drivers tab. 10. Open the Hardware Update Wizard window by clicking on Update Driver, and then click Next . 11 . Chapter 4. Working with L2230x Wide USB Port Replicator Monitor Connect the USB Port Replicator for the monitor 1. Be sure to install the USB Port Replicator driv er for L2230x Wide USB Port Replicator monitor on your computer. The driver name is “Usb_PR_Setup.exe. 2. Plug L2230x Wide USB Port Replicator monitor power cord, and power on L2230x Wide USB Port Replicator Monitor. 3. Connect the USB B plug of the USB cable to the USB B receptacle connector on L2230x Wide USB Port Replicator monitor. 4. Connect the USB A plug of the USB cable to an available USB connector on the computer. The system will automatically identify and configure the port replicator for L2230x Wide USB Port Replicator monitor. Then you can connect devices to the appropriate connectors on the monitor. Normally it will take some time for the computer to recognize the new device. Note: The settings you have configured for the port replicator will be retained each time you connect th e computer to the port replicator . This feature is useful when you use your computer with multiple port replicators. For example, if you use a computer both at home and at work, you can set up both work areas with port replicators. Then, you just connect your computer to the port replicator at either location, and you\ are ready to work. Using the audio connectors The audio connectors on L2230x Wide USB Port Replicator monitor consists of one microphone connector (red) and one headphone connector (green). The audio connectors are automatically enabled when you have successfully connected the port replicator of L2230x Wide USB Port Replicator monitor and installed the device driver. However, if you can not hear anything from the headphones or speakers connected to the audio connectors, you can manually enable the audio connectors on the port replicator,do the following: 1. Click L2230x Wide USB Port Replicator Monitor icon in the taskbar notification area. 2. Select Audio. For Windows XP users, the Sound and Audio Devices Properties window opens. For Windows Vista and Windows 7 users, the Sound window opens. 3. Depending on the operating system you are using, do one of the following: © ©
For the Windows XP operating system: a. Click the Audio tab. b. Select a USB audio line-out device from the Sound playback list, and select a USB audio line-in device from the Sound Recording list. c. If you can not use USB microphone connector (red) , you can Click “ Te s t hardware(T) on the Audio tab. For the Windows Vista or Windows 7 operating system: Click the Playback tab to select a USB audio line-out device and click the Sound Recording tab to select a USB audio line-in device. Using the USB 2.0 connectors Connect a USB device to any of the three USB connectors on the monitor with a USB cable. When the device is correctly connected to the USB connector on the monitor, an information window will be displayed in the taskbar notification area on your computer screen, indicating that the USB device has been connected to the system. Using the Ethernet connector Connect a standard 10 Mbps / 100 Mbps Ethernet connector to the Ethernet connector on the monitor, and wait until the device is fully configured by the Windows operating system. Using Digital (USB) Video 1. L2230x Wide USB Port Replicator monitor can work in two video modes: Extend mode and Mirror mode a. Extend mode The Extend mode splits your display across multiple monitors. There are two options when using the Extend mode: (1) System -Primary: In this mode, your computer display will be the primary display and L2230x Wide USB Port Replicator monitor will be the secondary display. (2) Second Display -Primary: In this mode, L2230x Wide USB Port Replicator Monitor Extend mode and monitor will be the primary display and your computer display will be the secondary display. b. The Mirror mode clones your computer screen to the monitor. The port replicator automatically selects the settings (screen resolution, color quality, and refresh rate) for the external monitor, which will enable the best resolution based on your computer settings. 2. To switch between the Extend mode and the Mirror mode, you can press OSD source key of L2230x Wide USB Port Replicator monitor. It takes a few seconds to switch between the Extend mode and the Mirror mode. During the transition, the display indicators will alternatively turn on and off until the port replicator finishes configuring the selected mode. You can wait until the new settings take effect and decide whether to modify the video settings or not. For the Windows XP or Windows Vista operating system: a. Click L2230x Wide USB Port Replicator Monitor icon in the taskbar notification ar ea. The pop-up menu opens. b. Select Extend or Mirror . Note: If you are to use the Extend mode, decide which monitor you are to set as primary and which the secondary. Then, select System -Primary or Second Display -Primary. For the Windows 7 operating system : a. Click L2230x Wide USB Port Replicator Monitor icon in the taskbar notification area. b. Select Advanced Display Settings . c. In the Multiply displays drop-down list box, you can select duplicate these displays to mirror mode and select extend these displays to extend mode. Note: Yo u c a n a l s o s e l e c t show desktop only on 1 or show desktop only on 2 to display your desktop only on one target screen. 3. Setting the resolution of the external monitor In the Mirror mode, you can adjust the resolution of your computer display, and the settings will apply to both your computer display and the external monitor. In the Extend mode , you can set the resolution of the external monitor. To set the resolution of the external monitor, depending on the operating system you are using, do one of the following: For the Windows XP or Windows Vista operating system : a. Click L2230x Wide USB Port Replicator Monitor icon in the taskbar notification ar ea. The pop-up menu opens. b. Select Resolution and select one of the options for the external monitor. For example, 1920 x 1080 means that the video output resolution will be 1920 pixels by 1080 pixels. For the Windows 7 operating system : a. Click L2230x Wide USB Port Replicator Monitor icon in the taskbar notification area. b. Select Advanced Display Settings . In the Resolution drop-down list box, move the slider up to increase or down to decrease the resolution of the external monitor. 4. Disabling the video output function To disable the video output function of the port replicator, do the following: a. Click L2230x Wide USB Port Replicator Monitor icon in the taskbar notification ar ea. The pop-up menu opens. b. For Windows XP and Windows Vista users, select USB Video Off to disable the video output function of the port replicator. For Windows 7 users, in the Multiple displays drop-down list box, select show desktop only on 1 or show desktop only on 2 to display your desktop on one target screen. Chapter 4 4-3
Troubleshooting 1. Your computer does not recognize the port replicator of the monitor. Disconnect the USB cable from your computer, wait at least five seconds, and reinsert it into the USB connector of your computer. If the problem persists, try connecting the USB cable to a different USB connector of your computer. 2. The monitor display is blank. Verify that the computer connected to the port replicator of the monitor is running correctly and is not in Standby or Hibernate mode. Verify that the display drivers are installed following the installation steps and the icon for the port replicator is visible in the taskbar notification area. Verify that the video output function is not disabled. Verify the following connections: The USB 2.0 cable is correctly connected to your computer. The USB 2.0 cable is correctly connec ted to the port replicator of the monitor. If the problem persists, disconnect all connections of the port replicator, uninstall the port replicator device drivers, and then reinstall the device drivers. 3. When you are in the Extend mode and playing back video clips, only one video clip is visible. When in the Extend mode, only one video playback application can be used at a time. If multiple video clip s are played back, only one video clip is visible to the user. This also applies to Web pages with embedded video clips. To view these Web pages, move one page to the computer screen and the other to the monitor. 4. You cannot play back DVD on the monitor but can play it back on your notebook computer display. Some computers do not support the certified output protection protocol (COPP), and you will not be able to play back the protected DVD on the monitor .To play back the DVD on the monitor, you can connect the monitor to the VGA connector on your notebook computer and extend the display to the monitor. 5. You cannot hear anything through your computer speakers or you can not use the audio connectors on the computer. Your computers default to the USB audio when the port replicator is connected, disabling your notebook computer built-in speakers and audio connectors. To enable your computer built-in speakers and audio connectors, do the following: A. Click L2230x Wide USB Port Replicator Monitor icon in the taskbar notification area. The pop-up menu opens. B. Select Audio. For Windows XP users, the Sound and Audio Devices Properties window opens. For Windows Vista and Windows 7 users, the Sound window opens. C. Depending on the operating system you are using, do one of the following: For the Windows XP operating system: a. Click the Audio tab. b. Select a built-in audio device from the Sound playback list, and select another built-in audio device from the Sound Recording list. For the Windows Vista or Windows 7 operating system: Click the Playback tab, and select a built-in audio device. Then, click the Sound Recording tab, and select another built-in audio device. Notes: (1) To apply the new settings, close the application currently using the audio device and restart it. (2) The settings you have adjusted will remain until you make changes to them next time.
